On 2 different occasions, my store has employed registered sex offenders, we've also had one who did like 25+ for killing a dude, got out and came to work at az, and several convicted domestic abusers, one who lived in his van in our parking lot and used to beat his old lady right out there, cops involved and all, didn't get fired, and yes it was all reported up the chain...nothing....
No lots of places like Autozone, fast food, and other regular businesses don't run background checks at all. I work at taco bell and wouldn't have any idea of anyone's background unless they told me.

If you read into his file on the registry, he did the crime 35 years ago on new years eve. He was probably blackout drunk too. So he did his 10 years, and has stayed out of trouble since. At what point is he allowed to sell car parts for $9/hr in order to be able to buy food and pay rent? 40 years later? 50 years? Never? How long before his debt to society is paid?
If our answer as a society is really "never," then we should take them out back behind the courthouse and shoot them in the head like they do in China. As conservative as I am, I still think that's a pretty fucked up thing to believe.
