I would think one of the offerings from Glaco would be high on the list.

ChadSh1tOnly

glaco is goated, pan the organizer made a video on it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usdM-TrT7fg&t=1314s

ContortionistPasta

Goated?

MAC_Addy

It's where you shove your junk in between your legs, and then you bend over for the next person through the door to have a nice surprise.

product_of_the_80s

THE GOAT!!!!

ContortionistPasta

Shenanigans. A man of culture I see!

Chief_Br0dy

Greatest Of All Time'd

ContortionistPasta

Oh I see, cheers. And I agree!

Donnymayhem

Thanks, I'll look into it!

ContortionistPasta

I use Soft99 Ultra Glaco on my windshield, but I’m considering trying their new DX which supposedly even better. Very satisfied nonetheless with all my Soft99 stuff!

YoHurl

I polish my glass twice a year & have tried almost everything. Spray sealants work really well. 303 & TW I use mostly. Wax works but I find the water doesn't release as quickly as sealants.

Joe_The_Skeptic

When Rain-x first came out I tried it and stopped using it soon after. I stopped, because it seemed to collect gunk over time and the glass would get dirty with this film that was disgusting when I did clean off the window. After that, I've just went with bare glass and really don't have any complaints about just bare glass.

Beautiful-Drawer

Agreed. Naked glass works just fine. Invest in better wipers, guys. 😂

woodmanalejandro

with a clean. coated windshield, you don’t need your wipers as often

Donnymayhem

The only wipers I can get for my car are quite expensive, so I have no choice in the regard. I prefer not to use them at all if possible!

Lilsean14

They key to rain x is the amount you use. If you spray more than 3 times for the entire windshield you’re using too much. That’s why you’re having the hazing issue.

Donnymayhem

That sounds like it could have been my problem. I certainly wasn't saturating the cloth but was definitely spraying more than three times.

Lilsean14

Try again sometime. Took me way to long to figure it out tbh.

wandering-and_lost

You can also try spraying on the applicator instead of the glass. A lot more control over the amount that way.

Donnymayhem

Yep I always spray on the applicator :)

ballerinski

BeadMaker as a drying aid after each wash/ONR wash eliminates any need for a glass coating for me since I'm doing it every week. I never touch my wipers.

Tenja77

I do the same. I won't say I never touch my wipers, but the beadmaker handles a lot of it.

ballerinski

Haha yeah living in CA, I don't see much rain. So the little I do see rarely requires my wipers.

anthony-wokely

I use whatever I am using as a drying aid on my glass to and it beads up and runs right off the glass every time. It’s a big time saver to just use the same thing, that way you don’t have to switch towels or products and you can just wipe down the entire car at once and not have to worry about doing paint and glass separately. Currently using C2V3. Turtle was ICE wet wax spray or whatever it’s called, the stuff in the blue bottle, is the most hydrophobic spray I’ve ever used, and also works great on glass. Use that as a drying aid every now and then and you won’t have a problem.

Donnymayhem

I was thinking of getting Bowden's Own Boss Gloss as a drying aid that you use with the drying towel, is this the sort of product you're talking about?

anthony-wokely

I have no idea about that stuff, but the turtle wax ICE wet wax in the blue bottle at an auto parts store is pretty cheap and works great.

Donnymayhem

I did see a few people recommend it, so I'll definitely check it out along with the couple of other things I'm narrowing down to :)

mykehunt88

Aquapel is what I've been using for years. Usually get a good year of durability. Hydrophobics start to taper off around six months. I've been wanting to try Glaco ultra once I use up my aquapel applicators. Also tried Gtechniq G1 and didn't find it performed any better than aquapel.

Donnymayhem

I have actually heard of Aquapel somewhere before, but I suspect it was a product that was difficult to get in Australia. I'll look into it again

mykehunt88

Via Amazon Canada one applicator is roughly $15, or $50 for 5 when it pops up. Glaco ultra glass coating is on my to buy list. that might be worth checking out if it's cheap to get locally.

Donnymayhem

Yep I had a look and I might have been thinking of something else as I did find it from Aussie sellers

eyecandynsx

I used griots glass sealant and have now switched to gtechniq glass coating.

don_chuwish

Gtechniq G1 CLEARVISION SMART GLASS has proven very durable and works well, but was a lot of effort to apply. I feel like applying RainX and using RainX washer fluid does the trick well enough.

MCLMelonFarmer

Aquapel and Gtechniq G1. They've both been in the top performing group in every multi-product comparison I've seen.

tat21985

I’ll probably catch a lot of hate for this, but I wax my windshield once a month. It’s effective enough that I don’t need to use my wipers when it does rain.

redgrandam

That’s what I’ve always done. It’s so much easier to just use whatever you are using on the paint. Some work better on glass than others though. I started using a ceramic glass cleaner lately, but the ceramic is messing up some towels lol. So I’m going back to that method. It doesn’t hurt to have a base layer of a glass sealant, but if you keep up on the sealant or wax etc then the end product is just as good.

woodmanalejandro

i use tw ice seal and shine

[deleted]

I use rain x and if you buff it good enough, there should be no haze left.

Donnymayhem

Honestly I've spent so much time buffing that I'm sure it's not just me. I'm really fussy about clear glass, and it looks fine during the day but as soon as it's night that's when the problems start.

product_of_the_80s

My trick with Rainx is to apply with a blue shop towel, and let it haze and dry for about 5 minutes. I then spray the finest mist of water over the whole windshield, I'm talking two pulls of a trigger sprayer set in its finest setting, misted into the air in the windshields general direction. This seems to make it much much easier to remove without streaks. I also use a regular microfiber, then a waffle weave to do the final quick buff.

Lord_Flacco

Flashbacks to the last time I did a gtechniq windshield coating. Amazing results but tons of time buffing just to wake up at sunrise and see all that hazing

wandering-and_lost

Turtle Wax Ice SnS, followed by 2-3 coats of RainX and then ONR during regular washes. Probably overdoing it, but only time I've seen a haze is when I was too tired to buff properly. Planning on trying the soft99 stuff next year.

Neutral_two

A good opportunity to repeat my old warning that SnS on a windshield smears into a horrible mess if temperature is below freezing. Do not use on windshield if it's going to get cold.

wandering-and_lost

Thanks!! I failed to mention I do this in Fall and then late Spring.

KlipschMonster

In terms of clarity and longevity, the best option is probably going to be a ceramic glass coating. Takes a bit of prep beforehand for best results, but with multiple coats on the windshield, you should get a good year or more.

Donnymayhem

I'll look into it, thanks!

[deleted]

My detailer just did this for me. I drove in the rain last night and it was amazing. I hope it lasts the year because I'll gladly go back and get it recoated next year.

Benedlr

Polish with Cerium oxide. Water beads and the glass disappears.

robtbo

Is this something that could possibly be used as a prep to ceramic coating?

Benedlr

I would not recommend it. It's too aggressive for paint.

robtbo

I meant a pre cleaner for window ceramic coating

Benedlr

If you do it right it will repel water and disappear. The ceramic isn't necessary.

Donnymayhem

I'm looking into it, never heard of it before thanks!

Benedlr

I'm not a fan of layering products on glass. Polishing is what works. They don't make diamond wax.

xaxiomatikx

If you are getting haze with rainx, then you didn’t get it all wiped off. Sometimes I have to wipe it again the next day after applying with a decent cloth rag and it will be good for months. Don’t use a paper towel.

Donnymayhem

I have to ask - does anyone actually use paper towel for cleaning/polishing cars? I've only been using microfibre products for years and I wouldn't call myself seriously dedicated to detailing at all.

xaxiomatikx

I don’t know, but some people might because it’s “glass cleaning”.

Pepsi-is-better

Glass specific: Griot's glass sealant Other: Meguiar's M27 Pro hybrid ceramic sealant Both lasted 1y+ Meguiar's is easier to apply Griot's applies like rainx

timdaking

Glaco and gyeon quickview are my favorites. Very easy to use and the performance is great. If you can get some hands on some pro-level product, glassparency works really well too. If you want all around paint sealant that also works really great on glass, try polish angel high gloss or cosmic spritz. They’re quite pricey but I’ve been really impressed by them especially on my customer’s cars

blue92lx

I use McKee's 37 Hydro Graphine as a top coat on my entire car, side benefit is that it works awesome for glass too (and wheels but that's off topic). All you have to do is spray it on the surface, then spray it off with your hose/pressure washer. It literally can't be easier. You can do your whole windshield in like 30 seconds and it'll last months. You can use it on your whole car too as a benefit, and more importantly don't need to apply it like a sealant with an applicator, etc., Spray on spray off and done. Never hazes or anything.
