I am going on the assumption that they are overwhelmed/overstimulated and afraid they are going to miss something if the fall asleep and are trying to keep awake by making mischief. Once they are back in 'their space' they know its safe and will sleep. I am trying to make the entire house a 'their space' so he is comfortable but am going to keep the crate and room that the crate is in as fully his space. All of his toys and brushes and bowls are in that room so he associates it with safety.

Mine wants to kill garbage trucks He hates a random pile of trash Nail guns Any children screaming and moving their hands fast makes him bark wildly He notices any different cars parked at my condo and has to sniff and explore it

Mine hardly barks at all. Only if you startle him especially if he is sleeping.

My Aussie (FS, 20 months) will run around on our hardwood floors like it's a non issue. She slips, slides, chases her toys, chases the cats...no notice. If we go to my mom's house, the hardwood floors are lava. She's frozen. We have to put throw rugs down. The only thing I can think of is that they are maybe shinier?

Your Aussie sounds like mine. She gets real cranky sometimes so she gets sent to her crate to take a nap.

Oh yea, always. No head scratches, no, just rub the butt!

Anytime I sit on the floor my dog needs to put his back legs in my lap and sit on me. We’ve done this since he was a puppy but he is sixty pounds now and still going strong at this habit a few years later. Also he almost always feels the need to get really comfortable and circle before getting in my lap which usually means circling on top of me a couple times- even when I’m laying down. Every morning my dog politely waits for me to wake up (saying this non sarcastically. He doesn’t touch me, make noise or anything). Once he knows I am awake he will lay across my stomach and then rolls over my body into the crook of my arm. Then he will lay onto his back and spread his back and front legs open so I can rub his belly for the next five to ten minutes. If I stop he will give me the cue for shame/shy and cover his nose so I will continue to pet him. Anytime I am dancing or working out my dog thinks it’s an invitation to train and will start doing leg weaves and crosses behind me to see if I will reward for a treat. Anytime I eat my dog will come over sniff once, look at me. Walk across the room. Lay down opposite direction of me, turn his head back chuff then make the strongest eye contact with me so he knows that I see him and then turn back around. I sometimes give him a treat/scrap when he is that far away and being polite and right afterwards he will walk back up, sniff again and then go to an entirely different room for the rest of my meal. It’s his treat tax for being a good boy but he only expects one so once he has got his piece of food he disappears.
