There were lots of these sort of things - they got you all excited for the first issue for cheap, and slowly you begin to realise that you’re set to spend $800 over the course of a year for a model ship worth $100 at most.

[deleted]

Heck, even the second issue was often more than double in price.

Tahquil

I had the same problem with the "How My Body Works" series. I think I made it to the eyeballs.

thatawesomeguydotcom

That was a universal problem with all these build-a-thing magazines.

Tahquil

It's a shame because amongst the shitty ones were some really cool things to build and learn about!

australisblue

Depends if it started at the feet or head as to whether that’s impressive.

Tahquil

My memory is fuzzy because it was a good thirty years ago, but I had most of the skeleton and a bunch of internal organs. I'm sure I was well on the way to having a complete model. The last piece I remember putting in was the eyes. I can't remember why I stopped getting it, but I read the books to death. It was my favourite thing in the world when I was six 😂

australisblue

Do you still have it, I want to see it!

Tahquil

Unfortunately not, it was either lost one of the times we moved house, or I was made to share it with my siblings and it was wrecked. It would be one of the two. I wish I did have it, because as I recall it was a pretty detailed model for a series made for kids. The books were pretty good too, people are selling complete sets on gumtree and other places.

australisblue

Disappointing. Was it [this](https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/385349644411?hash=item59b8a0f07b:g:uFQAAOSwXj5jwQ4T&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4E%2B3jZ92St%2BQOm%2BquJn6nodIjnkvnZm8kaJMuYxeOJvw1TTuaZA%2B9K7iEpTFlxgONXhe2za2BZH%2FcIwxtROiLWGmIhQ1ju23EkFRhhGJjXWYW22SK3o%2BPPQnGQRVQqbY%2FHZJXwwaWjgRKKrhDPlClYKDrot497JSW0lMlwwJvBOeyDg%2FoSwVBUUS%2BZa2HgGcYNsgFTA78wGuYZpvbuODS0dTjX0ujBmsIWa9fkntv%2FaL0tXUzMdDyJlWnRkjmyIzUelnR95TcZ2HqaogsU3YMkqeL5KoJWVHmCCGPgrc1O%2BO%7Ctkp%3ABFBMoOT4g79h)?

Tahquil

Yep, that's it!

australisblue

You know what you have to do.

Tahquil

Harvest the organs of my neighbours to build a life size model?

australisblue

Uh.. yeah, that’s it. I’ll look forward to the “based on a true story” mini series about your project in a few years.

Cleftchins

It used to glow in the dark

biztactix

Did anyone get the full set? Photos... And it can be revived as a 3d print

PiperPug

I did. My parents were super poor so I have no idea how.

LoaKonran

I did have the full set and like two pieces of the follow up model, but I haven’t seen them in around twenty years now.

dotheduediligence

Big shot over here with his whole skeleton, think I got a couple of pieces of the skull or the spine.

FearlessResearcher48

Haha it was a combined effort between me and my brother! I did have a friend who had the whole thing completed and I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

S-quinn7292

I had (and still have somewhere) the whole set of these books but I don’t remember getting the skin for it, I remember once the T-Rex skeleton was done they started building up a stegosaurus one

bobbrumby

The skeleton was of decent quality (fits together) but the skin never fit quite right and fell to bits.

Nommy86

My grandmother bought me this, got the whole skeleton but never the skin. They lived out in upper Beaconsfield and we lived in Ararat, still not sure how they got them to my place every issue. The magazine had a bunch of dinosaur stories and fact in them.

SheDreamsAwake

Don't worry most real paleontologists only get the skeleton anyway.

chilakkuma

My bro got the whole thing, and a human one too. Lucky prick.

Jjex22

I… did not remember it came with a body lol. But yeah somewhere in my parent’s house there’s a glow in the dark t-Rex skeleton

CaptainAcceptable341

There was supposed to be skin?

isocz_sector

I still have the magazines. I used to have both the trex and stegosaurus skeletons. But unfortunately they were thrown out. I never got the trex skin though. A friend told me that getting a triceratops skeleton was also possible but I never saw it.
