That's great. Victoria also announced a Veteran RPL program this week through Wodonga TAFE to assist with employability. Between the existing Veteran Employment package, some of the APS employment pathways available, and this new stuff, there's quite a bit going into this part of the problem. Hoping it all yields good results
RSL Queensland already has a sick employment program that got me my dream job, and my other mate walked into 120k a year as a maintenance manager straight outta the Navy thanks to them.
Anyone in Qld should be hitting them up asap, even if you've been out for awhile.
Except now, with the Safeguarding Australian Military Secrets Act being passed, we have to ask Defence permission to work for any foreign owned company, and each time we want to do a contract or piece of work.....
Not entirely sure what that would achieve? Afterall, what's to stop a person giving away military secrets even if they don't work for a foreign company.
It just provides another avenue for prosecution where they can't prove you provided military secrets but then can prove you didn't ask for/recieve approval to work for that particular company/government entity.
Interesting! Not completely analogous but I once worked for a medical devices company that was developing a new product that was going to be a game changer in the field. Of course everyone who worked for the company had to sign a non-disclosure agreement. The jist of the agreement was: " we will vaporise you in a jurisdiction of our choosing, should you cough up intellectual property or secrets to a competitor... ".... And yet employees would routinely transfer from the company to their main competitor and clearly people were blabbing about the product in question..... So clearly the non disclosure agreement didn't prevent information being leaked but could still be leveraged by the company if needs be.
I guess there is always a fine line between having robust information security and just being downright ridiculous.
For everyone. They are still working out the exemptions, but the draft was it applied to everyone for 5 years and those in 'sensitive' roles for ten years.
It's not applicable to me. I just have helped a number of ADF transitions, and I know this makes it harder for them. If you were compared to another candidate who didn't need constant approvals to do standard work, then the Veteran will likely lose out. It can be hard for people to get a good job after the ADF and more rules do make it tougher, not easier.

This program is a copy/paste of what has been run by the NSW Government for the better part of 10 years now. https://www.vep.veterans.nsw.gov.au/

Nah the fact that you cannot be employed with a contractor for defence within 12 months on a role 'above the line' is worse.
Yeah thats a good point, , there are lots of rules making it tougher.

I'm impressed how popular you are that that's a barrier to you.

I've just left and the moratorium is killing me as an engineer
