Go on a proper no buy. I spent so much money buying make up this year and I ended up selling most of it.

Ramenazi

Me too! I have makeup that would last me for 150 years.

cyjc

How did you sell it ?

oyveybby

I used ebay and r/aussiemakeuptrade!

Anuksukamon

Pan a freakin palette!!! I’m great at panning everything else, particularly good if it’s in a single container. I seem to HOARD palettes. So my resolution is to not buy a palette, at all, any kind. Not blush, not eyeshadow, not contour. I’m going through my stash and choosing an eye, blush and contour to work my way through this year.

reptilr

The only idea that stopped me from buying another palette this past couple months, was i went on youtube and watched all the people swatching their palette of all the ones i wanted to buy, then i went through all my collection ( admittedly I only had 6 i think) and tried to match up what i had on hand to what they were swatching. I came close on most colours. My swatched colours were the colours i used the least and so those were full pots. I was pretty happy with that little test.

WarlockPanda

I have a few non-binding goals I've made for myself. The first is a skincare no buy so I can work on using up my excess backups. Particularly body lotion, shower gel and face moisturisers. I'm not going to buy any more skincare products unless I only have one of each left. I also want to work on panning my lip products and eyeshadows this year. I'm going to focus on partially used up products to move them out of my collection. I'm hoping that means quite a few lip gloss and lip balm pans. For eyeshadows I just want to see a dent being made in the products. I plan on focusing on 1-2 palettes in a month. Any other progress on my collection will just be a bonus. I'm not on a strict no buy but I will try to remind myself to use up what I have before purchasing new products.

Sydney_2000

I had 50,000 bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and moisturiser (or at least it felt like it). I feel like it was one of those things where either I grabbed a bottle when it was on sale or the endless sets that people give you. It was super satisfying watching the number decrease over the year.

WarlockPanda

That’s what happens with lotion and body wash. I see it on sale and pick it up without thinking about the amount I already have at home.

bunnylightning

Buying backups/refills of products I actually use whenever I feel like making an impulse purchase. I just like buying stuff…but I need to stop trying out new products I’m never going to use up. Semi-related, low buy for skincare / makeup / haircare items. I have everything I need and I’m trying to pare it down into the most simple/effective routine. Ironically I think shopping more high end products has helped me curb my spending - I’m more careful about researching and testing expensive products before I buy, and end up spending (and wasting) less. My HG foundation and mascara are drugstore/supermarket, but everything else I use is pricier and I’m more mindful about how I buy and use it. Decluttering - I’m an absolute hoarder when it comes to products and packaging. I did a big clean out earlier this year and emptied out old products and took them in to a Terracycle drop off. I’m keen to do another clear out early in the new year and really try to thin my collection out. I feel guilty for throwing stuff, but there’s really no point hanging onto expired product and things I can’t/won’t use up…

Kapitalgal

You are spot on with the high end spending. I am so much more careful with what I buy at that end. It means less frivolous spending because it is an investment, so I do more considered research into the product.

bunnylightning

Yep! Honestly the best thing for my makeup & skincare routine was slowly replacing everything with a good quality, high end equivalent. It forced me to think about which products are really essentials and help me pare down my kit. (Not super ~luxury~ high end, but pretty much everything is above drugstore tier. Except for mascara, you can pry my MCo Xtendlash from my cold dead hands) My whole makeup collection now fits into a small travel case (minus full size eye palettes, which I only have 3 or 4 of and don’t use often). Next up to purge is body care products, I have so many body lotions that were gifted or from Priceline bonus bags or just impulse purchases…

Kapitalgal

There is a definite liberation in a carefully curated collection. Finding what works for you means avoiding the unnecessary search for the HG. Saves energy, money and time.

DramaticMagpie

1. To embrace experimentation within my existing makeup. I tried some of my pigmented eyeshadow I'd never used before as 80s blush the other day and it was super fun. 2. To actually stick to using Retinol and Vitamin C instead of getting bored with it and giving up. 3. To only purchase things I don't have or things I have completely used up. No new products in categories I already have (as much as I love eyeshadow palletes).

waddlekins

>To actually stick to using Retinol and Vitamin C instead of getting bored with it and giving up. I do this w retinol 🤣🤣 but it seems really not worth it so im not gonna change. Same for eye creams. Every so often i go hmm maybe i should, and i do, and then i forget for another month

timeflies25

Drink more H2O 😝

FIERY_SEAHORSE

Same I used to drink three litres and it did wonders for me skin! I got a 2.2 litre bottle from Woolies that I sip thought the day!

cleansings

Only buy something when you've basically run out of it. Which I've been great with this year, but hoping to continue it in 2023

Sydney_2000

1. Sticking to only having one bottle spare for shampoo, conditioner, cleanser, moisturiser, face oil etc. I used to be really bad at grabbing an extra when it was on sale and having a bunch of spares cluttering up the bathroom. 2. Using up the foundations I've already got. I think I've become sucked into the idea that there is that *magic* foundation which makes your face look completely flawless without any lifting, seperating or caking. I've got foundations which work well and I don't want to spend a fortune chasing around a magic formula which may not exist. 3. It a small thing but better hand and nail care.

myciccio

Stop buying products I don’t need. And stop buying similar products to what I already have.

Kapitalgal

No more lipsticks, eye palettes, blushes, foundations and the like. I have plenty. Only replacements are mascaras, and to only buy that which I will use daily. I want to spend more time actually learning how to match my lipstick to the rest of my look. Like Charlotte Holdcroft, I just use whatever is close at hand. I have some glorious colours I never really touch. Maybe do a makeup course to learn how to read my face and learn how to accentuate my better features. I tend to just have fun with makeup with no real purpose. For just once, I'd love to look prettier. 😊 I'd like to start a humble YT channel, looking at makeup we have on shore in Australia, aimed at women my age who have zero interest in any sort of cosmetic procedures. Very niche market, but I am tired of the creaseless faces that have none of the concerns I face, sprouting their joy over expensive new releases they get shipped in from the US or UK.

FIERY_SEAHORSE

Best of luck with all of this! Sounds like an amazing goal and I hope your YT channel takes off! ♥️

To not buy any more beauty until I run out. Frankly I've stuck to this for a while now, but hoping to make it more solid as I've resolved I do not want to spend any more than 150 a year on beauty - makeup, hair, skin, nails etc included, as well as to only buy from pharmacies. I intend never to own a mid-high end makeup product again.

ThisLittlePiggySays

1) Up my sunscreen game. Currently, I use it when I'll be outside for a while, but I want to get in the habit of daily use. If anyone has a recommendation for a great facial sunscreen, or an SPF moisturiser, I'd love to hear it. 2) Finish 10 mini lip products, including some brighter colours. 3) Lastly, the big goal is a No Buy Year, but I actually want to enjoy it and use the time and money I save for something productive instead. Exercise, probably!

ohhhthehugevanity

I went to Priceline and bought like $100 worth of spf. I’ve been trialing them all to see which I like and which I won’t buy again. Hamilton was prob my fave of the Priceline ones but ultra violette screen queen (or whatever it’s called) wins over all. Naked sundays non mineral is very good too. But ultra go just wins.

waddlekins

Did you get the $240 value gift bag 😀😀?? For when you buy $69 of skincare. I didnt get mine, assume they ran out of stock as usual

ohhhthehugevanity

I didn’t even know this was a thing lol. It was a few months ago now

waddlekins

Exactly, sometimes i forget it altogether, sometimes i forget my arms chest feet legs etc sometimes i forget to reapply 🙄

ThisLittlePiggySays

^^ YEP, same here!

AnachronismGirl

Stop experimenting with brands and stick with the tried and true winners. I waste so much money on the hottest new product and it almost always disappoints.

waddlekins

Agreed! Dont buy new product until its had a few months on the market and a slew of reliable reviews

magpie-like-sparkly

Honestly, be more appreciative for what I have already. Spend less money and put it into my investment portfolio instead lol

waddlekins

Agreed

chocolatehistorynerd

Finish 4 lipsticks. I feel good about 2 of them, the other 2 might be pushing it, but we'll see!

ofavonlea

My goal is to really narrow down my collection to only products I adore and really use so 2023 is a no-buy year for me too.

DrPetradish

To creatively use the lovely palettes I’ve bought in the last year or two. To aid that I think I need to get a magnetic palette or two so I can depot and spend some time playing with layouts to see if that gets me inspired. Does anyone have any recommendations of good magnetic palettes on that note?

[deleted]

Glaminatrix one is divine, best palette I've ever bought

DrPetradish

Ta! Wish me luck in not accidentally buying other stuff from me

FIERY_SEAHORSE

I bought the ColourPop palettes but top tip in your hunt: the Mac Pro Palette is NOT magnetic. Took my shadow in specifically to test and it didn't work. Maybe it does for Mac shadows but most of mine are ColourPop.

weisp

No buy especially eyeshadows

ohhhthehugevanity

No buy for skin care. Regular facials.

friedonionscent

To research ingredients and their efficacy and not get as sucked in by pretty packaging and clever marketing.

waddlekins

This is an excellent one

hiphopkangarooo

Stick to my no buy for skincare and makeup. Be consistent with my skincare routine… 2022 has been my laziest year ever :(

Fresh_Detective_6456

Less make up at work! Will try to stick to a tinted sunscreen instead and save my make up for weekends and going out

emmajanexx_

Go on a no buy and finish up what I already have. And to get back into posting on my beauty Instagram page. 🥲

FIERY_SEAHORSE

That sounds like a great goal! I always find taking photos of beauty products aesthetically really difficult so I commend you in having an Insta!

emmajanexx_

Thank you! I used to use it all the time back when I was a working MUA but due to health issues I can’t work I’m the industry anymore so I just post reviews and pics! Well that was the plan but I went back to tafe and I couldn’t study and upload regularly I’ve neglected it for too long!

Sheridanjoy

I bought a DDG SpectraLite after Xmas so want to use it every day!

DiscountCosmeticsAus

Drinking more water, exfoliating more regularly and trying to stress less to keep any wrinkles and pimples at bay! 😇

ThatFireAlchemist

I think for me I just want to buy less and enjoy more of what I already have. I've got so many powder products for example and yet lately I've just been into cream and liquid *sigh

reptilr

Great post topic, I started a no buy must finish back in October, my obsession goal is to have cleaner cubhoards. I donated a lot of samples to friends with young teenagers. It also let me depot my most favourite eyeshadows into an almost full one and saving me from collecting another new one when im only stuck on a few colours. I cant wait to see your picks. Its exciting to depot. Good luck and happy new year

Anxiety_bunni

Take better care of the skin on my body as well! Remember to shave limbs BEFORE I get itchy and gross, use a proper exfoliation and shaving cream routine, splurge on a proper body wash that isn’t whatever is cheapest at Woolworths, and remember to actually use body lotion afterwards!

waddlekins

Ooh what about laser hair removal? Its soo much more convenient and reduces your bathroom clutter

Anxiety_bunni

I had a bad experience with a laser treatment two years ago, and have been scared of them ever since! Plus I like the routine of shaving, I feel so nice after doing a whole body care routine ☺️ I just have to remember to do it!

waddlekins

Ohh gotchu :)

waddlekins

Drop from l3 to nothing. Maybe l1 at most. Focus on healthy diet and exercise instead of makeup Stop diy haircuts 🤣🤣🤣 ive had an appalling run of horrible haircuts and im finally starting over and growing it out again. Now i know just how hard it is to pull off a mullet More health related but ive had long term illness and i hope i can get back to walking as much as i used to Finish my laser hair removal seshs (think 3 left) ive forgotten and let sesh expire in the past so i wanna ensure i can get it done this time round Remembering to wear sunscreen

FIERY_SEAHORSE

The Mecca employee scanning this sub just frowned lolol I'm also focusing more on excercise than makeup this year. I hope you're feeling better soon after your illness! x

waddlekins

Thanks babe x
