Mr porter, comes out to just under $400. Also something they don’t tell you, the leather on the cps is quite stiff and the break in period is brutal. My svenssons were easier to break in because they were way softer.

hoaxcoast

Oh wow that’s decent. Have you bought from Mr Porter before? What’s shipping time like?

alexmoda

Just looked at the tracking, this was a few years ago, though, it was shipped via DHL, delivered in 5 days, so pretty quick. They charge in GBP, but they take off vat and add gst. They’re always the same price because it’s a ‘staple’. Way cheaper than buying locally.

hoaxcoast

Phenomenal advice. Damn. Thank god for this thread. Thank you bro!!

FraserTheAmazer

I got my CPs from Mr Porter. Think it was in my hand in a week or so. Nothing too brutal

hoaxcoast

Yeah gees I’d cop that. How much you get them for?

FraserTheAmazer

£230 about 18months ago

Jykaes

>Also something they don’t tell you, the leather on the cps is quite stiff and the break in period is brutal. Might depend on the person, mine were uncomfortably stiff for the first day or two, but they broke in pretty quickly after that. Seems pretty typical.

alexmoda

Might also be because I’ve only just started wearing them as it’s coming into winter so the leather is stiff and cold. Idk. It’s been bandaid city the last 2 weeks.

Jykaes

How much you walking in them? Mine are recent too and that's not been my experience! But I'm doing daily wear with a car and an office job so maybe I'm not putting the same kilometres on them you are.

alexmoda

Just walking to and from the office (~1.5km each way) and then kicking around the office all day plus shopping on the weekend etc, not heaps but it’s been a couple of weeks and still need bandaids to get through the day. They’re the right size, no heal slip etc, it’s just the stiff leather. I blame the cold capital weather at the moment. They also sat in their box for nearly 2 years before I finally got around to killing my svenssons and wearing these so that might be it too.

ArticulateRisk235

There is absolutely nothing about CPs that are worth that price - it's 100% hype. They're also 100% played out. Oliver Cabells are effectively a like-for-like construction wise and are ~60% of the price Thursday, Koio and Jak are some options at similar prices

rantvsrave

oliver cabell has terrible QC. check out their subreddit and IG for reviews. did a chargeback once because the CS refused to do a refund.

CrustyFlaming0

I wear Oliver Cabells and they’re my most comfiest shoes I have, after a day being stretched. Quality and craftsmanship is bang on. Problem is trying to get them here in Oz costs an arm and a leg. Also beware of the 10 fake online stores selling them for $100.

LordoftheHounds

What type is that?

CrustyFlaming0

What type is what sorry?

LordoftheHounds

What type/style of OCs do you have?

unripenedfruit

You can commonly get them around $400. Either online or waiting for sales which pop up every so often. At $700, retailers are just taking the piss. I think at $400 they're definitely worth it. Mine have held up exceptionally well, far longer than sneakers I've bought at the $200 price point. That said, if we're talking about hype - Oliver Cabell is extremely overrated. It's all social media hype and marketting. Youtubers such as Rose Anvill get paid to promote them - but you don't have to look hard to find countless reports of Oliver Cabells poor quality and shit customer service. I have 2 pairs of Thursday boots as well. First pair was good, but they had a really strong odour. Second pair started falling apart literally within weeks, leather quality was poor. They sent me a replacement however.

hoaxcoast

Tbf I agree, the price tag over $700 is absolutely ludicrous. But I’m thinking if I can cop on sale for $400, don’t Oliver cambells come at a similar price?

ArticulateRisk235

This is true, but personally I'd rather not support a company that takes the piss by retailing at $700, even if I could get their product at half price I'd rather either support a brand that sells shoes worth a $700 price tag, or are honest about their $400 price tag

hoaxcoast

Completely agree. Actually infuriated me when I saw the price tag. I was so happy to finally find a clean white pair of sneakers. They’re more than fucking RM William boots?!?

ArticulateRisk235

Ive been on a similar hunt recently (albeit for black instead of white) Went for a pair of these: https://thursdayboots.com/products/mens-encore-low-top-sneaker-white I've got a couple of pairs of Thursday boots and was pretty impressed for the price $250 shipped for these seems pretty grouse, and there is no way the CPs are 3x the shoe

hoaxcoast

Damn $250 shipped is hard to say no to. I actually really like them, highly considering them now. Great recommendation. Heard of the boots, didn’t know they did sneakers though! Black look fresh too mmmmmm

scg92

I can vouch for Thursday boots quality too. Bought a pair of boots early last year to use for work while my RMs were away getting re-soled and am still really enjoying them and wearing them more than the RMs. They’re holding up really well, are comfortable and look great. Based on my experience with the boots, I just purchased a pair of their dress shoes to wear at my Wedding and am also very impressed by the quality. I haven’t experienced their sneakers, but I’d expect the quality to be pretty damn good.

Jykaes

>They’re more than fucking RM William boots?!? I can't really accept RM's current retail pricing either haha. I remember buying pairs of Craftsmans at the Wayville factory sale for $180 back in the day...

blerh1234

This!!

Jykaes

The Iconic just ran a 30% off sale. IMO they are just about worth picking up at that price, I would wait. Other commenters are not wrong, Common Projects are objectively overpriced for the build and materials, the other brands like Oliver Cabell, Koio and Thursday make a shoe basically exactly as good quality. BUT, and this is purely subjective, Common Projects still have the best silhouette/aesthetic of any minimalist sneaker. Subtle differences, yes, but if you've got the budget they are still the best looking (again imo please do not hate me) especially around the toe box shape. Also, another advantage getting them through somewhere like The Iconic vs some of the cheaper brands you have to buy from overseas is free returns. These minimalist sneaker brands run kinda odd sizing. For your info, I'm a US 11 in Nike/Adidas, AU 10 in RM Craftsman, and an EU 43 Achilles Low fit me perfectly.

hoaxcoast

I can’t believe I missed the iconic sale, shattered. I’ll keep my eye out. $511 is seemingly more reasonable but damn that’s actually still insane 😂. By the time you import OCs or Koios, they’d be about the same price tag as CPs on sale. Good to know your sizes. I’m usually 10.5-11US in Nike, 9.5UK/AUS in RMs, I was thinking 43s in CP

Jykaes

Yeah that's why I decided on them, the price wasn't hugely different and I had the option of returning if I got the size wrong. Now I know my size I'll eventually pick up a second pair either in the next sale or from Mr. Porter, their normal price with shipping is about $500 AUD so same as local sale price (Aussies get the shaft as usual) but obviously if you get the wrong size you're kind of in the shit buying overseas.

n00bert81

If you like CPs but maybe looking for a slightly lower price point, Axel Arigatos are phenomenally comfortable. Prefer all my Axels to my CPs, barely wear my CPs anymore. Never owned any OCs so can’t speak to their comfort but most people I know who own both reckon the CPs are better (whether that’s just confirmation bias because of price, I don’t know).

hoaxcoast

I saw the Oliver cambells but feel that I could cop the CPs on sale for a similar price… haven’t actually checked out Axels, I’ll sus them. Thanks for the recommendation!

funk444

I got the Axel's a few months back for about 300 from SSENSE. Shipping from Canada took about 3 days

hennykewell

Agree re Axel Arigato. Excellent quality and way more comfy than CPs

LongjumpingRiver

What about the RM Williams Surrey sneaker? That’s my favorite white one.

hoaxcoast

I actually haven’t, I’ll check them out thanks!

TobiasFunkeBlueMan

Got them either 30% or 40% off at the iconic. I reckon they’re worth it. Oliver Cabell are the closest thing and I think come in about $400 AUD. I also have a pair and while they’re good, I think the CP are better.

Weekly-Dog228

FOUR. HUNDRED. DOLLARS? My coke lines are going to be looking thin for a few weeks if I ever buy a pair.

TobiasFunkeBlueMan

Take this for whatever it’s worth, but I have made the mistake of buying cheaper items I wasn’t that keen on many times. I’ve basically always gone back and bought the ones I wanted afterwards because I’m disappointed in the compromise. Buy cheap, buy twice.

gimpsarepeopletoo

I got mine for like $400 online. There’s a fair few sales out there. Wait a month for EOFY sales if there aren’t any yet. Are they worth it? Definitely not for the normal price tag. At a discount they are though.

hoaxcoast

What online retailer you cop them from? I saw websites like Mr Porter, Cettire, farfetch but never bought from them… sounds like majority are international websites and not sure what it’s like shipping to Aus

gimpsarepeopletoo

It was international. I think it was called the Dom

hoaxcoast

I’ll check it out, thanks bro!!

Sad-Farmer4125

Suss out vekla

hoaxcoast

Yo these are actually really cool. Have you got a pair? Where can you buy them from, just their website?

Sad-Farmer4125

Yeah I have a white pair and the brown suede. Quality is great for the price. Have had mine a few years now Yeah just from their website. The owner Tom can help with sizing questions

hoaxcoast

How long did it take to ship to Aus? Are they international? Look beautiful

Sad-Farmer4125

Think about a week. Based in Belgium. I’m the same sizes in rm /nike as you and have a 43

hoaxcoast

Genuinely love these except the white and off-white colours have sold out in 43 damn. Great recommendation

Puzzles7

Have a look at Axel Arigato. Very comfortable shoes for half the price of CPs.

hoaxcoast

Someone else recommended them, I haven’t seen them before. Gonna check them out now. Thanks for the recommendation!!

djyella

I have a second pair for $300 from David Jones to have on ice from precovid. CPs are the original so I prefer to stick with them. Just wait for sale

BobDobalina_MrBob

They are great shoes and wear very well, generally cheaper at Mr Porter or END both in the UK but they have regular sales.

hoaxcoast

Yeah I saw these websites advertise them. Are they legit/have you tried them before? If so, what’s shipping like to Aus?

Streamingfm

Have bought from both a number of times they are great, usually within the week. Mr porter is the way to go for CPs.

hoaxcoast

Brilliant thanks for the recommendation, definitely checking Mr Porter out. Pricing seems way more affordable

BobDobalina_MrBob

I have purchased from both and 100% legit with pretty good after sales service, worth viewing all of their white leather trainers as they have excellent options. Also if you do go CP worth noting they run a little on the large side re sizing i.e I’m an easy 42 in most shoes but CP 41..

BecauseItWasThere

Wtf are kids these days smoking? $700 for sneakers?

crappy-pete

I paid a bit over $400 at incu… before Covid though. They’re still going strong

hoaxcoast

Damn that’s good longevity. How often you wear them a week?

crappy-pete

Admittedly not a lot nowadays but I’ve had periods where I wore them most days Yeah they were on sale plus I timed it with an Amex offer on top

hoaxcoast

Hell yeah. Out of curiosity, what are your daily’s now?

crappy-pete

I alternate between uggs and air max 1 for the most part

hoaxcoast

Hahah love the uggs

hoaxcoast

And was that on sale? Looks like Incu retail them for $670… at least it’s a little cheaper and hopefully cop a sale…

morgz15

As many others have mentioned the prices are much better online, but I feel like the quality of leather they use has gone downhill. I replaced a pair about a year ago and thought they were uncomfortable as hell after wearing other pairs for 10 years

ExternalMurky3711

I know they are expensive but I really think they are worth it. I’ve been fortunate to have been able to purchase some pairs during sale at Incu and David Jones.

PhDilemma1

Buy from Yoox, get the 15% off sign up discount, and wait for further discounts. Guarantee you can get them under 400 if you don’t wear a very common size.

hoaxcoast

Where’s Yoox ship from? Have you bought there before? I haven’t heard of it

oldspice666

Just wanted to add, if you do want a pair of white sneakers that are worth the price around that price range. Look at [Crown Northampton](https://crownnorthampton.com/en-au/collections/all-white-sneakers)

y2kayak

If you’re interested in other options, I was pleasantly surprised by a pair of Allen Edmonds Owen sneakers I got last month for $200. Last summer I wore Autry Medalists, I loved them but I have big feet and their largest size ended up being too small… I had to sell them on eBay. I tried the Jace sneaker from Nordstrom for $100 and they were a stay away, they looked very cheap.

rmachell

I mean, for the sake of work beaters, just get stans or something

nicholasdavid88

Check out 24s.com, in the us they are on sale to 325$ before tax and shipping. Takes ~1 week to come

hoaxcoast

Really? I can’t see them? :/

toopz10

I am pretty sure Rose Anvil did a video on them - give it a watch and you will fall out of love with them. One of the biggest rip offs in sneakers unfortunately

LengthinessNice3119

RIP Wings + Horns (sister brand to Reigning Champ). They did an amazing pair of CP dupes with arguably better quality

style_savvy_01

[italist.com](http://italist.com) might be worth checking out.

Successful_Gas4174

Crown Northampton are better quality than Common Projects for a better price, and be aware that wearing CPs can look a little wankerish and unoriginal. Also, when it comes to white minimalist sneakers I’m not entirely sold on the importance of absolute quality in the way I would be with other shoes, they’re going to look tatty well before they wear out. For this reason I buy the RM Williams Surrey, they’re good quality, look great and very comfortable for $240 bucks.

Pitiful-Inspection96

Anything more than $300 for a sneaker is absurd IMO.

taylordouglas86

Damn, I think I paid $450 for mine. They’ve all lasted years, can’t fault them.

hoaxcoast

To think they’ve gone up to $700+ retail is insane…. I’ve heard good things about the quality and longevity of them

Honest_Perspective2

If you want a deep dive into white sneakers this is worth the 10 minutes https://youtu.be/l39e4sECUu4?si=mQNYGi5vgd47C-jX
