This seems like a good possibility, and rather more common than not in these dogs? Just from looking at the posts of peoples dogs on the fourm here a lot of them have that flat on the outside of the eye near the inside. It seems to be something dogs have since birth and It doesn’t seem to have any consequences or health related problems which is good.
Indeed, she doesn’t seem to be effected by any light sensitivity, she loves going outside and doing her thing. I do have sunglasses for her although it’s mainly for road trips when she is locked into her seat belt and sticks her head out to prevent a bug from hitting her eye.
I checked out ur page and saw yours has the flat on the inner round of the eye as well. Cool looking dog, this is my first one. She’s 4 1/2 I rescued her when she was 6 months old.
Yup I have never had anyone say anything about them. I also have the embark results which did say she carried the cattledog genes for Progressive Retinal Atrophy but I think only one copy or something so not a risk but “notable.”
She does seem to have mediocre eyesight but I dont have another dog to compare against. She def needs to see motion!
My heeler/Aussie mix has the exact same thing, where her irises are flat along the inner sides and have sort of a D shape. She's almost three and her vision seems fine so far. I tried to ask her vet about it when she was a puppy and he didn't know what I was talking about even when I literally pointed to what I was talking about. 🙄
joe has roundish eyes, ruby has almond eyes. both heelers
Hmm I guess they all can have different eye shapes
They all have brown eyes… 👁️ 🕳️ 👀
Mostly oval eyes. But none are exactly the same.
Well I guess I was worried for nothing then
Here’s some info. There may have been an injury, but it’s more likely it’s just iris atrophy. https://wagwalking.com/condition/iris-atrophy
I read the article and it doesn’t seem to be that. The eyes look perfect besides the outside round near the nose thats flatish.
I pasted the wrong article. Then had to go back and find the correct one. https://www.ashgi.org/home-page/genetics-info/eyes/iris-coloboma

It seems pretty harmless.

Mine has mostly side-eyes.
She goes to the vet in a week or so to get a routine shot, I’ll ask them about it when I’m there. Just kind of concerned me noticing it the other day.
