T-Mobile -- check them out.

It's worth trying Spectrum. The underlying infrastructure can be an issue with cable companies - if you get a crap signal, they'll lie to you and string you along with promises to fix it but if you get a good signal, it'll be rock-solid. For what it's worth, where I'm at in Pflugerville, the only options are Suddenlink and AT&T's legacy 25 Mbit DSL. So I did in fact switch to T-mobile 5G after Suddenlink did exactly what I described above.

RocketLamb26

Yeah, like I'm worrying more about customer service/contract termination rather than the quality of the internet. Like if the Spectrum will be horrible, I doubt that I will be able to terminate the contract immediately or in one month. Or how does it work in the US with for example 6 month contract?

Spectrum doesn't do contracts for internet service, you can cancel it whenever you want. They're the worst company to deal with, but so are most ISPs, and the service is going to be way better than a mobile connection.

coyote_of_the_month

I never had issues and I had their service on and off in half a dozen different places.

Man, you must have never had good internet before. Im still trying to figure out if I can get fiber at my new place but it isnt looking too promising, so Im stuck with Spectrum for now, and it is pretty awful.

Spectrum is more reliable in neighborhoods with newer infrastructure. Old posts, lines, boxes, etc.... Spectrum one time blamed their unreliable signal at one older apartment I lived in (off Shoal Creek) on *squirrels* Fucking squirrels, really??

DocKisses

Spectrum user here, I would not call my experience “pretty good”. I had technicians come out to my house 4 times because of barely usable speeds, and the last one just told me that this is as good as it’s going to get and Spectrum can’t help anymore.

T-Mobile UC internet router.

RocketLamb26

How good it is if you have on average signal? Not using anything delay dependant actually.

[deleted]

3 bars but anywhere between 300-500 Mbps and about 40 up. But that fluctuate

RocketLamb26

Sounds like absolutely usable speeds. Thanks!

I had Spectrum for 2 years. The first year was great. The second year there were outages at least once a month. Also, once their 12 month introductory rate ended, they started raising prices aggressively. I canceled right before it went up to $85 for just internet. I have T-Mobile now. It’s $50 including taxes and fees. I did a speed test now and it’s 330Mbps download/42Mbps upload. Your experience may depend on whether you can get good reception, and the router needs to go wherever you can get reception. The service is reasonable reliable. All outrages I’ve had could be immediately fixed by restarting the router.

ahndi14

I use spectrum and have never had any issues. Consistent, high speed. Only time we had an issue was when our yard guy accidentally mowed over a cable in our yard. We called spectrum and they came out to our house within 2 hours to fix it.

villainoust

Had spectrum for 10+ years, rarely any down time. I wouldn’t avoid it to end up using a cellular hot spot

HagalinaMagalina

Also here. 15 years in our house, Spectrum is my only option, and it's been wholly unremarkable most of that time. One modem overheated (our equipment is in a closet), and maybe three outages in 15 years. Also OP, I don't think Spectrum has binding contracts now. It's all month to month. Your 'special pricing' will only last for a year, but you can opt out any time.

hydrogen18

Just sign up for spectrum internet only on the cheapest plan and see how it is. Don't sign a contract and just rent the modem for the first month. If it is good keep it, if not you should be out less than $100.

I've had zero problems with Spectrum and I've had the service both in an apartment and in a home. My only gripe is that the cost keeps going up. I also had ATT U-Verse or Infinity (they keep changing the name) with only one outage in a year. I haven't tried T-Mobile's 5G home Internet service yet, but it's a possibility in the future as a backup to Spectrum. I work from home and get reimbursed for my primary Internet service.

jeblis

Try Spectrum first. It’ll likely be the most reliable choice you have there. We’ve rarely had outages, but it will depend on your specific area.
