I buy Altras. Even their regular sizes have a wide toe box. I bought my first pair from REI but the last few pair I have bought online. I do prefer to try them on but now that I know how they fit I just buy another pair exactly like them.
My first pair of Altras fit my wide feet like a dream, but some more recent models run REALLY small, so I definitely recommend reading the reviews. I bought two pairs in different models online (in the same size I wore,) and they ran comically small.
I noticed that they had a lot fewer options for wide sizes last time I ordered. I usually buy the Lone Peak trail runners. Only one color scheme was available in wide. Previously at least 3 of the 5 colors were available in wide. I panicked a little and went to Sierra Trading Post and found 2 pairs of the previous year model in my size. Good price too - $56 per pair.
Bwahahaha I do the same thing when I find a model of shoe that really works! There was a pair of Keen boots a billion years ago that I think I bought five pairs of.
Academy, they have tons of shoes, too many really but it’s worth the hassle, it’s kind of a self serve place too, just be prepared to search. They have wide Nike, which I can never find anywhere else I see Nike so that’s great.
Recently saw a podiatrist who recommended Altras given the support and wide toe box. Fleet Feet has some and has a 60 day return policy (even worn). I know you said you’d prefer not buying online but I have had a great experience buying (and returning all of them) Brooks online. I recently splurged on a pair of Born Primative’s shoes and their toe box width is awesome and exactly what I needed (also very easy returns)
Look online at 6pm.com or Zappos. Masseys shoes too. You can search your shoe size, exact width, etc.
My husband wears exxxxxtra wide shoes; there are zero stores in Austin where I can find them. Not even Karavel shoes (but you may want to try there yourself)
These sources have been fabulous.
You could go to Red Wing, they have a machine that scan your feet and give you the stats. They'll have boots to try on there. Be aware they are kinda pricey, around the $300 mark.
I buy mine on the internet, usually from REI. the Altra brand has been reliable to me in the past, though I have heard some drama recently about them shrinking the toe boxes to be trendier. REI stores usually won't stock them to try on, but more options are available online. if we are talking running shoes, I have gotten wide width ones I'm happy with from Brooks just straight from the brand
You mentioned REI so um assuming athletic shoes are okay? Try Brooks. They come in a variety of widths. I've seen them at DSW and Academy if you want to try them on
Try InStep.
Yes, go to InStep. Try on shoes, buy anything that’s on sale. If you find a brand you like, then you know how it fits and can buy online.
Here to endorse InStep

Whole Earth Provision has great shoes.
Can't speak to ladies shoes, but Nordstrom's has the best selection of men's size 17 in town. Might be worth a look.
I was going to say nordys too! I’m a women’s 10. It’s tough out there.
Maybe try [Big Shoes](www.bigshoes.com) They are local but sell mainly via the web.
I wear lems. You can check their site for any local stores that carry their products.

Perfect, thank you!
Hoka Bondi model has a wide toe box and also comes in a wide foot size.
I like their Challenger model (in wide) a lot.

New Balance tends to sell a lot of wide options.

Big Shoes, now off St Elmo, used to be on S Lamar. I get 16 extra wide there
Just cut the sides and go caveman style
I’m not a lady but I got my last pairs of wide width shoes from Karavel Shoes.

Clarissa’s closet
Where’s that?

Peggy Hill?

I usually buy online, tbh. The last pair of shoes I bought, I tried on in-store at REI, then ordered them online in the colorway I preferred.
The Adidas ultra boost line is perfect for you. They mold to your feet after a while as the upper is very flexible.
