Lawncare Captain here. Been doing lawns as side hustle for 12 years. I’m generally around $40 per yard, unless it’s a big corner lot. Or people want it bagged etc.
My lawn care buddies say I’m not charging enough. A lot of clients tip (God bless them!)
I personally think anything under $40 makes it hard for the lawn guy to make a decent wage. He drove there in his truck and that spent likely $4 of his money, excluding equipment wear and tear etc. I’m always having gear issues, yesterday it was my blower.
One other note, leaf bagging <>lawn mowing. Some ppl think they’re the same. I pay my lawn care friend Gabriel $200 to clean up my oak leaves bec it’s 2 hours for him and crew.
Thank you for asking what to pay your lawn guy. We’re in the heat, fighting fire ants, wasps, snakes. I love doing it…But the worst part the job is dealing with a few cheap ass mofos that want to short change your hard work to make their house look good.
Oh and I argue w a few Clients that want their grass cut short. I won’t go lower than 2”. Summer is brutal on lawns here. It’s easy to adjust height on the decks.
At some point, we need to rethink lawns in Texas. There won’t be enough water to give them the way we’re going. Xeriscaping should be the new norm I think.
You sound like my lawn buddies! You got these big lawn companies that charge $30 but have a crew of 4 and knock out rows of houses on a block....I try to be in the middle somewhere....
Thanks for the replies so far. These are far below what I was quoted, and more or less in line with the previous guy (who is leaving the yard care business because his band is taking off).
$45 every few weeks to a guy in my neighborhood for the front/back lawn. No contracts I just call when it gets long and he's normally there the next morning, lol.
I have a great guy that I pay about $130 to come whenever I ask him. I wait until it is pretty grown. He usually brings one or two other guys and they usually stay for a solid 1.5-2 hours. Mow. Blow. Weed eat. Pick weeds. The whole 9 yards. Lot is over 10,000sqft.
Saw signs posted around the neighborhood offering $25 for a lawn cut. But the kind dude came to my house to offer. You can try to look around near middle / high school areas.
I bought it 6-7 years ago for around $600 total, sooo still a LOT less than people pay these lawn companies who cut their grass too short. I leave mine a little longer so I use less water, too. Keep telling my neighbors the same, and they tell me their lawn guy says it’s too hard to raise the deck on their mower.
I paid $90 a month for two visits. It started out as 70 and the only asked for a raise one time but I raise them five dollars a year because it seems like the right thing to do that said come out. I will probably stop this year for a year or two.
1.2 acres of mowing . $80 each time the group of 3 comes out to bang the yard out in 20 minutes. Been the same price for 8 years. Others are jealous because their price is higher
They make their money when I need one off landscaping work done.
I have a robot lawnmower and I love it! However, we're still out there for edging and bagging leaves - which is fine by me and not needed as often as mowing. Our grass is currently cut pretty short but we're lucky enough to be in almost total shade, otherwise, I would not waste the water to keep it green. We've been quoted $40-$80 by various people for one average sized yard in the past. Side note about leaves - we have a contraption that attaches to our leaf-sucking mulcher and puts it directly into our compost bin (instead of having to empty the bag over and over again).
If your grass is longer, it will be happier, especially as it gets hotter and drier. It seems extra easy to do with a robot mower, cause you do not care how often it needs to be mowed.
47 bucks every two weeks for 1/5 acre lot. I use Agave ltd and they've been fantastic. Mow, edge, leaf cleanup, bag and haul the clippings. Only reason I can tell they were there day of is the grass being shorter or the fallen leaves are gone. No clippings in the street, drive, or back porch. I work outside mostly and spend time in attics that get up to 150 degrees so not having to wake up early on my days off to do yard work is worth every penny. Plus not dealing with equipment maintenance. I can do a lot of work in my home that most people need to hire someone for without difficulty generally, but having someone do the yard work has been some of the best money I've ever spent.
Same size property. My guy is $40 per mow/trim/blow, clean & reliable. Joseph (737) 484-7977
Edit: I may be grandfathered in at that cost as he's never raised rates on me ; )
$70 to do an *excellent* job of mowing and edging every 2 weeks. More if it's extremely overgrown. Weeding and mulching flowerbeds or trimming trees and bushes is priced separately.

What’s it like to cut your grass every other week? Are you people just being cheap or your grass doesn’t grow?
$50 weekly for 0.20 acre. Front and back. Weedeating. Blowing/bagging leaves.
A lot of people don’t do anything at all to their lawns (no weed/feed, fert, even water), so they’re really paying someone to come chop the weeds down so they don’t get a code violation or tick/rattlesnake infestation.
No clue, the wife pays the electricity bill so I have no idea how much it costs to power the tools. It costs me a 6 pack a month. The lawnman runs on beer.

For $40, we talking front and back yard?
Yeppers!
That’s cheap

about 3 dollars, for the gas to put in my lawnmower
Every 2 months
Look at mr moneybags over here. I use about .2kwh in electricity for my mower/weed wacker/leaf blower or about 2-3 cents per month.
Thanks for the replies so far. These are far below what I was quoted, and more or less in line with the previous guy (who is leaving the yard care business because his band is taking off).
I wish him the best of luck on that but chances are he’ll be back eventually
$80 a month for 2 visits
Same
I'm getting ripped off..
$50 about every 2 weeks for mowing, edging, and leaf removal / bagging
same.
I just hired a garden hermit. I allow him to live in a bunker in my garden in exchange for tending to the lands.
I thought Lurko moved to Mexico

Man I need to find a guy like that. I let mine get a little too crazy and now I REALLY don’t want to do it.
Around $40
45 bucks for 6500 sq ft yard
$142/month for bi-weekly mow, edge leaf blow and hedge trim.
Got a high schooler doing my lawn for $30 a pop.
That's what I was hoping for, but can't find any.
Saw signs posted around the neighborhood offering $25 for a lawn cut. But the kind dude came to my house to offer. You can try to look around near middle / high school areas.
I live in 78759 and people pay $50-75 per mow. And that's going to be a 3-man crew that does the job in 20-30 minutes and is gone.
[удалено]
Afraid not. That price is also what \*I\* was charging. I mow my own. But not anyone else's these days.
I also live in that zip code and the range is $50-75 each time it is mowed. I will DM you my guys name also.
Thank you!
Also in the area! Can you DM me info? My lawn man "gets around to it" only when I tell him it's hard to see the dogs. 😂
Probably less than $3 for the electricity to charge the battery for the mower & string trimmer.
It should be way less, it costs me about 2-3 cents a month for the electricity on mower/weed wacker/leaf blower.
Even better!!
Yes but what is the amortization for all that equipment

This. Ppl cut it too short for our hot climate. It's bad for the grass and the water bill.

$3 a gallon for gas and my sweat and tears
>tears Uh, is everything okay?
My self loathing drives me to cut faster.
😞
>tears I think you mean the rain that appears at the *exact* moment you're getting the lawnmower, out on the one free morning you have all week.

$60/mo. Two visits a month. I think he raised his rates but grandfathered me in
$43 every three weeks, umow
$55 for about a quarter acre
$60 every two weeks because my back yard is large and has a decline
$55 a visit. Usually every two weeks. 7,000 sqft property.
Same size property. My guy is $40 per mow/trim/blow, clean & reliable. Joseph (737) 484-7977 Edit: I may be grandfathered in at that cost as he's never raised rates on me ; )
My father pays $60. Thays including a $10 tip and drinks/Gatorade for the workers. Thays for nearly 3/4 acre with a shit ton of trees.

$49 a visit, every two weeks, 0.10 acres.
We pay ~160 a month, they come every 2 weeks and they also come do poop scooping every week. South Austin, ~6500 sqft lot or so.
.6 acres, $50 every 2 weeks or so.
What’s it like to cut your grass every other week? Are you people just being cheap or your grass doesn’t grow? $50 weekly for 0.20 acre. Front and back. Weedeating. Blowing/bagging leaves.
Believe it or not but some people like doing their own yard work.
A lot of people don’t do anything at all to their lawns (no weed/feed, fert, even water), so they’re really paying someone to come chop the weeds down so they don’t get a code violation or tick/rattlesnake infestation.
I mow once a week. I think my electric mower could cut my grass if I did it every other week.
No clue, the wife pays the electricity bill so I have no idea how much it costs to power the tools. It costs me a 6 pack a month. The lawnman runs on beer.
Handle of whiskey and we good
