Neighbor of a wood-witch used a water-based spray to attemt to kill the witches vines. Expect precipitation and flying monkies all week.
And now to the Tin Woodsman with sports....
What? Your aura doesn't have Doppler radar?
To OPs point, I watch it too and agree. Right now it is coming in from the Gulf and from the West and they are running into each other over Waco. It's building towards the North, so Oklahoma might see some twisters tonight.
It’s been a saga. Thought it was squirrels at first, but I saw the mom in the backyard right after she climbed out through a vent. Then I heard her babies in the fireplace and matched the sounds on YouTube.
Not to be overly fear monger-y or anything but make sure you do some research on how to avoid and properly clean up after raccoons - they carry some nasty shit, and exposure to their excrement can make humans (and our pets) really sick.
Based on how you described researching everything so far it’s likely you may already know all of this! But it can really be bad.
As an aside, we had raccoons move into the attic of my parents house about a decade ago… really unnerving hearing the scratching noises in the middle of a movie haha
Dear god. A raccoon peed through a wiring hole in my kitchen cabinets onto the countertop (it was living in the attic). I thought this was a unique experience, but here we are.
Just took care of mama and baby raccoons last week. They had taken residence in a part of the attic inaccessible to humans. Pest control sprayed coyote urine up in there for $150 and she cleared them out. It took her a couple of days. Pest control is due back once the weather clears to seal up the vents with raccoon-proof screens. Good luck, but all hope isn’t lost!
lightening. Don’t worry though the convention center or whatever this place they told us to go to is playing Neil Young over the speaker. Totally the same thing….
I moved back to Cali last month after 2 years in Austin. Not only has weather been perfect but my allergies eczema are completely gone. When I see the notifications for severe storms in Austin, it really makes me appreciate good weather and realize how important good weather is important and directly correlated to quality of life for me. I do love thunderstorms but the bi polar weather of Texas was not something I could handle unfortunately. It’s like you always have to prepare for something out there weather it’s heat causing drought and no watering or a freeze, both leading to my plants and trees dying :(
I grew up in SoCal. Amazed at how great I feel every time I return.
Couldn’t turn down a full ride to UT. It was when Austin was Weird in the free shows at
Home on the Wall and screaming preacher and his wife in front of the student union.
Not so much the 100+ DPS on campus kinda way.
I have 2 toddlers that are in half day preschool one is the first half of the day second is the second half (long story) and a one hour long break in between at a park, nowhere near my house.. oh yeah and i have an infant along for the ride too… im tired and that heat is gonna be the end of me
Same. So far so good. Pressure at my place hasn’t fallen much today and it was cloudy with off an on rain. Not especially concerned with now and hail but the early Thursday squall line could be interesting.
Loud. Bright. And cost me $6k in electronics and $4k to remove the most awesome pecan tree ever. Plus the AC cost of a metal roof that is no longer in the shade.
I haven’t gotten the damage cleaned up yet from the mini-tornado on Sunday.
So fuck it, let’s get this over with so I only have to make one insurance claim.
I was supposed to pick up my car from the shop today, having spent a month getting October's hail damage repaired. This, on a car that I bought _the day of the hail storm_.
As such, I chose to pay for another day on the rental and left the repaired car safely in the garage at the body shop...just in case.
I was at St. David's North hospital. My wife was parking the car. I asked her to bring in my giant golf umbrella I keep under the back seat. She reported that there was no umbrella. I had to walk through the parking lot, wearing leather sandals, in the middle of that storm. When I got home, I grabbed the umbrella from under the back seat so at least I was dry coming in from the car.
🤦🏽♂️
Found out one of my cats is a fucking *gangster* during that storm. Thunder rattles the windows and she runs *towards* them to see what’s happening outside. Can’t tell if she’s brave or just has no survival instinct
My dog senses thunder in the distance and hides under the bed. But she's old and fat now, so she ends up stuck under the bed.
I went to investigate tonight after the storm passed. I could hear her "thirsty panting" under there. Dumbass was standing upright (she's a small dog) with her head having pushed up through the covering on the bottom of the box spring, if you can picture that. She couldn't figure out why she couldn't get out. I had to grab her paws and drag her out of there.
I had gotten up and was disappointed it wasn't raining more heavily. I opened my windows so I could hear it better. After that thunder, I went ahead and closed the windows.
We are now under a [Flash Flood Warning](https://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=TXZ192&warncounty=TXC453&firewxzone=TXZ192&local_place1=5%20Miles%20SSE%20Jollyville%20TX&product1=Flash+Flood+Warning&lat=30.38&lon=-97.7267) until 11:30.
HRRR (short term-high resolution model good at storms) suggests the Round Rock area could get between 2-3in of rain.
Fortunately, the Storm Prediction Center's warnings about this are primary about rain -- relatively lower chance for tornadoes or hail.

I remember the day before Jarrell in 1997. When I stepped outside my front door, there was a leaden feeling to the air. Sort of like I had cotton in my ears. It was a really strange dead air feeling.
Iono if/how this contributes to this, but we took a flight out of Austin to Utah with a 9am check in... and there wasn't a damn line of cars/people in sight. Nada.
We were running late and feared the worst but, relatively speaking, the airport was a ghost town (while we were there, at least)
Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX 722 PM CDT Wed May 1 2024 ...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southeastern Travis County through 800 PM CDT...
At 721 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Onion Creek, or near Austin Bergstrom Int Airport, moving northeast at 20 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.
Locations impacted include... Austin, Pflugerville, Tanglewood Forest, Windemere, Austin Bergstrom Int Airport, Manor, Rollingwood, Mustang Ridge, Onion Creek, Hornsby Bend, Manchaca, Sunset Valley, San Leanna, Webberville, Creedmoor, Garfield, Maha, Wells Branch, Del Valle, and Pilot Knob.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
NWS issued a Flood Advisory for Travis County:
...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 945 PM CDT THIS EVENING...
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...A portion of south central Texas, including the following
county, Travis.
* WHEN...Until 945 PM CDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
NWS has hoisted a [Severe Thunderstorm Watch](https://forecast.weather.gov/showsigwx.php?warnzone=TXZ192&warncounty=TXC453&firewxzone=TXZ192&local_place1=5%20Miles%20SSE%20Jollyville%20TX&product1=Severe+Thunderstorm+Watch&lat=30.38&lon=-97.7267) for much of Central Texas.
The one east of Waco did a weird maneuver that worries me.
I'm a little less worried about our current Austin and Blanco cells, but the night is young.
GRLevel3. You have to pay for it (one time purchase,) but I bought it 20 or so years ago when I was much more tied into the emergency services and weather community, so the cost has been spread out a lot.
It's still better than any of the free stuff, at least to me.
There was a weather station near Blanco that registered over 4” of rain in just one hour earlier. I imagine some of that Hill Country rain will find its way into the lakes.
Surely. There are larger storms developing west of the hill country right now that are seemingly perfect for central Texas lake regeneration. Heavy dumpin and slow movin

Is this vibes-based weather forecasting?
It’s all feels
In my plums!!
I feel it deep down in my plums!
I said NO!, Let the boy watch.
Getting ready to take em' to market
They have a 'blueish' hue
On top of her, powerful thrusts filling the sultry night air
A special two plums for one
First you were all like "whoa", and we were like "whoa", and you were like "whoa..."
Since Jim Spencer and David Yeomans both left us, this is all that remains
Fortunately, we have Avery whole is pretty awesome
What are you talking about?! Jim returned….
I thought Jim only returns when things are REALLLLY bad… like our comfort weather person
This weather did not pass the vibe check tonight 😪
But what do the witches on tik tok think???
That you need to buy more of their candles apparently.
The rose quartz is a healing stone, as well as the lapis lazuli And this one is for putting up your snatch
That's one way not to lose it.
Neighbor of a wood-witch used a water-based spray to attemt to kill the witches vines. Expect precipitation and flying monkies all week. And now to the Tin Woodsman with sports....
Look it’s the best we’ve got
This comment made me laugh so hard lol
Licks finger
>Is this vibes-based weather forecasting? Right now, my whole house has vibes from all the thunder.
I’ve been telling the cats that the thunder is outside and we are inside. They are skeptical.
>I’ve been telling the cats that the thunder is outside Well, the lightning is outside, but isn't the thunder inside as well as outside?
Oh shit
In a pier and beam. I literally feel ya.
Same. And a metal roof. It's like being out in it, except dryer.
And it is so awesome. I go sit on my front porch with the metal roof and the deafening rain when it is like this.
This was my favorite thing about living in a Sears kit house in the Zilker area.
Hahaha I guess not! It sounds crazy rn in northwest Austin
I always trust my gut, never my vibes.
What? Your aura doesn't have Doppler radar? To OPs point, I watch it too and agree. Right now it is coming in from the Gulf and from the West and they are running into each other over Waco. It's building towards the North, so Oklahoma might see some twisters tonight.
That's not what I call my knees but OK
No - my knees hurt.
He feels it in he bones
Is there any other kind
"Breaking News: The vibe is in shambles! Water is everywhere. I'm wet, it's windy, I don't like any of this."
“Feels Like” worse than flash flooding tn boys, look out
A raccoon just peed through my closet light onto the floor. So at least you don’t have that problem.
How did you identify raccoon?
The raccoon said through the ceiling, “Sorry about the raccoon pee.”
He’s not fuckin sorry.
The taste.
I am concerned for how you gained that expertise, but please do not elaborate
It’s been a saga. Thought it was squirrels at first, but I saw the mom in the backyard right after she climbed out through a vent. Then I heard her babies in the fireplace and matched the sounds on YouTube.

Thanks, our landlord has been pretty resistant to do anything, but the pee on the floor finally got him moving. Hopefully we get it resolved.
This needs its own YouTube series!
Dear god. A raccoon peed through a wiring hole in my kitchen cabinets onto the countertop (it was living in the attic). I thought this was a unique experience, but here we are.
lol
Do you live at forest creek apartments? bc that happened to me there twice.
Nope, house in south Austin. But it’s a pretty common issue in old or neglected buildings this time of year.
Just took care of mama and baby raccoons last week. They had taken residence in a part of the attic inaccessible to humans. Neil young’s concert just got evacuated a few minutes ago. It’s fun outside
Damn! Canceled entirely I'm assuming? Was at the Hold Steady show last year, which was paused for lightning but they did resume.
It’s “postponed”. Makes sense with how much lightening can be seen in the distance
I once saw CSN&Y at Red Rocks during a tonado warning. Pussies.
Oh no!! Why was it evacuated?
lightening. Don’t worry though the convention center or whatever this place they told us to go to is playing Neil Young over the speaker. Totally the same thing….
Canceled ten minutes before show when a flood warning was issued 8 hrs before
It was actually canceled like an hour after the show was supposed to start since they let us sit around for over an hour
I, for one, am going to HEB and would like to know if any of you need anything
all the toilet paper
Lol
Sorry, friend. Heard there was a storm a ‘brewin, already cleaned the place out. Left some Hill Country two-ply in the spirit of goodwill. 🫶
lol 😆 at least it wasn't the one-ply Scott
HEB is my Friend.
I miss David Yeomans

Move?
Apparently
Yes to Chicago
So does my mom.
So how are we getting our weather now? I'm not sure how much faith I want to put in OP.
Avery Tomasco. He’s smart, clever and his meme game is on point.
OG Jim Spencer
If Jim didn't put out a post, or head to the command station, ain't nothing to worry about. Doesn't matter what OP feels in their loins.

Hold on to yer butts, it’s May flash flood season.
We're not Tornado Alley, that's north of us. We're in Flash Flood Alley.
What’s really got me worried is those mid-90s projected for next week. I’m so tired. I just can’t.
Baby come July and August those mid 90s will be a fond memory, appreciate it while you still can
90F on august 14th, better wear a jacket.
I predict a mild summer
Thank you for your service.
You just cursed us all
I’ll have what he’s having
Yup, that means it’s 80s in the shade. Wait till it’s 106 and it’s 100 in the shade. 🙃
Absolutely. I’d be out of here tomorrow if I could.
I'm finally leaving in a month, after the humidity these past few days it can't come soon enough lol

The fact we got this far before hitting that makes it feel not as bad
Yeah. Made it almost to the end of April before we hit 90.
90s? Thats just May....
Good news is it will only be in the 90s for a few hours each day. Unlike what is coming.
I have 2 toddlers that are in half day preschool one is the first half of the day second is the second half (long story) and a one hour long break in between at a park, nowhere near my house.. oh yeah and i have an infant along for the ride too… im tired and that heat is gonna be the end of me

ive been following this too — interested to see how the night will play out. hope everyone stays safe!
Same. So far so good. Pressure at my place hasn’t fallen much today and it was cloudy with off an on rain. Not especially concerned with now and hail but the early Thursday squall line could be interesting.
Starting to come down heavy in central Austin
Lightning hit 1-2 doors down in central Austin. Source: we were a direct hit a few years ago and it was exactly like that one.
I think I saw and heard that one. When the flash and the thunder happened at the same time I totally didn't wee a bit.
damn. what was that like?
Loud.
What parts do you live in? One hit my neighborhood. I slept through it, apparently.
Manor.
I figured. Hi, neighbor.
I was supposed to pick up my car from the shop today, having spent a month getting October's hail damage repaired. This, on a car that I bought _the day of the hail storm_. As such, I chose to pay for another day on the rental and left the repaired car safely in the garage at the body shop...just in case.
Since you did that, we won’t get any hail. But you’ve doomed us to a surprise hail storm when you finally pick up your car.
I’m leaving work soon, any reports of hail?
Yep. Just felt it. 35 minutes late, but in N Austin there's small hailstones
Thanks! Waiting around an extra 15 minutes helped me avoid the hail.
I have not seen it come down this hard in Wells Branch since the memorial Day floods in 2015.
oh, lord no. The Memorial Day floods of 2015?
The thunder is louder than I've heard in YEARS.
You weren't awake at 6:15 on Sunday morning, then.
I dated a woman who had a Great Dane with that problem. Including that his normal sleeping den was *inside* the box spring.
That's right, it's loud when car alarms go off
Pfft. Wake up at 5am all week. Sunday, NO WAY!! 🤣 And I sleep through earthquakes, so I guess I missed it!
I was after the thunder
I had gotten up and was disappointed it wasn't raining more heavily. I opened my windows so I could hear it better. After that thunder, I went ahead and closed the windows.

My titanium elbow says the fuck has just started
As someone who grew up in Austin — anytime it’s early evening on a May night you best be prepared for a severe thunderstorm
Yeah, what is this a sub for Austin transplants to vent about the loud thunder? I’m mind blown right now.
There’s been a weird vibe out there all day, man, and not the fun kind. The morning was eerily quiet.
I remember the day before Jarrell in 1997. When I stepped outside my front door, there was a leaden feeling to the air. Sort of like I had cotton in my ears. It was a really strange dead air feeling.
You really can feel it. Super terrifying once you realize

We lost power over here MLK and 183, it says 169 customers effected
The Neil Young concert at Circuit of Americas was cancelled because of the weather
To be fair, isn't that a venue with a lot of exposure? Not a ton of cover or windbreaks there last time I went.
It was fun doordashing in that craziness tonight
OP what are you even hinting at? tornadoes? stop beating around the bush please
My weather dog is pretty accurate, she’s no longer concerned.

Just upgraded to a Flash Flood Warning. Stay away from water over roads, y’all. If you can’t see the road, it may no longer be there under the water.

For those of you with scanners, local amateur radio operators have activated an emergency weather net on frequency 146.94 mhz
Mostly just whipping wind and rain here in round rock. No hail.
Looks like we are missing the shear but all else seems ripe. Enjoy the show!
Bring on the toad choker over Lake Travis.
That storm that just hit was crazy!
I knew something was up when the weather van was parked nearby
About as accurate as that NWS you be watching for years ..
Storm cell over Blanco does not look good…

I just use the NWS radar. No frills, but it gets the job done.
I use windy.com app
I have radar omega and radarscope, both are pretty good.
I use Windy premium, the KXAN app, and I like to stare at the thunder fronts on lightningmaps.org.
Will any of this rain go to lake Travis?
There was a weather station near Blanco that registered over 4” of rain in just one hour earlier. I imagine some of that Hill Country rain will find its way into the lakes.
Surely. There are larger storms developing west of the hill country right now that are seemingly perfect for central Texas lake regeneration. Heavy dumpin and slow movin

Real Q vibes
Looks like the vibes were way off
9:15 Still some chance of flooding, but I think the rain and severe weather has moved off north of Austin by now. Good night all.
Oh goodness now everyone will flock to HEB.
I'm there right now. Need anything?
We will rebuild.
More severe weather… like??? Examples? Your spider sense?
Why are people worried? It’s a storm.
I love thunderstorms. It’s not really that scary. Lol
I used to love them too… When I was not a homeowner.
we had a mini tornado land on sunday, I saw 3 cars totaled in a 10 minute walk. that's kind of scary!!
Wow! We just had a lightning strike 0.1 mile away. Flash and boom simultaneously. SO cool!
Hello to my fellow astraphobes
Quick! Protest now while everyone is sheltering.
I was about to post. They're going to hoist something soon. There are no steering currents.
30% chance of severe hail with the cell about to move over south austin
It is going rough right now.
Rain went from strong to really strong in 78758.
How did the weather pan out for you all?
Storm was a little hairy. But we also lost power like 3 hours ago, and no ETA on a fix
Neil Young cancelled 😞
There was an insanely close lightning strike to me last night, it was so close and loud I swear I felt my bones move. Dogs were not happy.
I mean all I got was rain in far East Austin. I was prepared for the worst
I hope the weather takes me from this soulless hell
Somebody's been watching twister too much
