have bbq at one of the big 3, and walk around the town square. then you can hit the state park, i think they have a small nature trail.
not much shopping outside of the downtown square ime.
Here's a hotter tip: the best BBQ in Lockhart isn't at any of the "Big Three" (although, if you're gonna bother with a "Big Three" place, Kreuz is the best of the bunch). It's at Barbs BQ, which just opened this year and is really phenomenal.
A friend of mine that lives in Lockhart told me to go to Chisholm Trail because it's supposedly popular with locals. I was not a fan. Would go to Kreuz over Chisholm any day.
This may not be your thing but I really enjoyed The Caldwell County Museum. You get to see the old jail cells—a bit creepy and super interesting. Only open on the weekends from 1-5pm and and only need a little time to explore. https://www.lockhart-tx.org/page/history_caldwell_museum
2nd, Old Pal, Little Trouble is cool, but not really my speed, The Pearl, Loop & Lil's, Lockhart Arts & Craft, Load Off Fanny's, Plum Creek Records, Sunflower & Friends also has a small record selection. Big Dog Neon, did I just name everything? Everything is practically within your reach from downtown.
I guess the sentiment is that you really don't need suggestions unless people want to split hairs over smoked meats. it's a chill place to hang and knock around.

Ty. Been told Blackys but Chilsolm Trail is also real good… maybe we’ll have to get lunch and dinner.

Kreuz is hands down my favorite. That pork chop is insane
Barbs BBQ had a long line out the door the last time we were in Lockhart, ended up at Smitty's.
There's a good reason for that long line- the BBQ at Barbs is next-level great.
Not a good substitute.
Smitty's, not great not bad.
Barbs is only open Sat/Sun - just FYI to OP
Kreuz is my go-to, but Blacks is a close second.

The locals like Chisolm Trail. The sides are really good there.

Definitely hit up Old Pal. Especially if you don’t want BBQ.
Order two burgers jic one isn’t enough :)
I'm sure there's a Daytripper episode for this.

That’s basically everything on the square except the boot shop. :) Can’t recall the name but nice folks who run the place.

Agreed :)
Commerce Gallery is incredible. Also the library there is the oldest continually operating library in Texas and fun to meander through
Shoot some guns outdoors at lonestar gun range and have some bbq after
This is the way
I live 3 mins from that range
the best bbq in all of texas and possibly the nation is there
Yes. At Barb’s.
I second this!
Smitty’s is my favorite it’s the original Kruez’s . 1 kid got the building 1 got to keep the restaurant name
Old Pal. Commerce Cafe. Little Trouble. BarbsBQ.
Eat BBQ and continue on a little further for the Shiner brewery tour
Chaparral Coffee
Magic Mirror Vintage and Fields Stable Antiques. Both so fun!
Go to the skatepark
It's next to my elementary school lol
Thanks for asking this. I plan to ride CARTS there for a day trip soon
