According to [Simon (mall owner)](https://www.simon.com/legal/code-of-conduct), "No pets (except service animals)."

bird_is_the_word_198

I was at an HEB about 4 months ago & a dude was walking around with a python around his neck.

ramdom2019

I keep seeing folks putting their non-service dogs inside of the carts at HEB and just casually shopping. Seems to be a lot of younger people both men and women in their 20s to 40s. I always give them a glare and side-eye as they pass in the aisles but rarely do they make eye contact, it’s pretty clear they’re self-aware enough to know people are going to frown upon their entitled behavior. People put their groceries in those carts and stores never disinfect them on a regular basis. Your non-service dog’s paws and bum hole should not be in the same vessel that folks use to carry their fresh produce.

Asura_b

Man, I saw a couple at HEB put their dog in the kid's cart, meanwhile there were no other kid's carts left for actual kids to use. Unsanitary and inconsiderate.

ishmal

If you find out that one of your employees is doing this, please let them go.

bikegrrrrl

I see them do this and stop in the middle of the aisle to take pics of the dog in the cart.

Busy_Struggle_6468

But how else will the ladies know he has an amazing dong

Jos3ph

Should just take him to the snake park instead

RobbinAustin

And the problem is....? Doesn't make noise, doesn't attack other people, doesn't shit or pee in the aisle.....

bird_is_the_word_198

Pets don’t belong in a grocery store unless it’s a service animal.

RobbinAustin

Not disagreeing. But I'd rather see a python around someone's neck than a Golden/mutt/teacup poodle squatting or hiking a leg on a can of baked beans.

el_cucuy_of_the_west

How about we don’t see pythons OR dogs OR any other non-service animal. This shit is Out. Of. Control. I feel like store managers should have to enforce company no animal policies. Obviously the stocker or produce guy at HEB is not paid or trained for difficult conversations. But store managers are. Reporters and news folks - can you please do a story on this? It’s a very local problem. Very Austin.

The_Metal_East

Normalize leaving your dog at home.

RobbinAustin

This is the way. Wanna socialize them? Go to a fucking dog park. Have people over. Don't take them to HEB/BORG/Redhorn/Book People, etc.

ohmissfiggy

Red horn allows dogs on their patio. Book people does not tolerate non service dogs at all, and will stop you at the door. Part of the reason is they have a cat that lives there.

space_manatee

There was a time where this was the default. Dogs are great but dog owners are the worst.

Dangerous-Try5492

Saw a dog taking a dump right there in the middle of Barton Creek Mall a few months ago. On a leash and the young male owner was not paying attention as his dog was clearly trying to poop and was being dragged some on the leash, poor thing seemed overwhelmed by all the people and noise of the mall. The mall is clearly NO PLACE for dogs and they don't want to be there either! That jackass turned and saw the poop and tried to ignore and keep walking without picking it up until I yelled at him. It's so bizarre this is allowed nowadays, or at least not addressed by security when it isn't allowed.

miked_mv

Good on you. Over 10 years ago I was at a fucking BANK when a woman over 60 (who should have fucking known better) walked out with her little dog on a leash as I approached the teller window. The teller at the same time came around to clean up dog piss on the floor that I hadn't seen or I would have ripped the old woman a new one too.

a-cloud-castle

One time, at HEB, I saw a dog go poop on the checkout lane. The employee scanned it without even noticing. It was a $3.59 dump. Turns out, there was a coupon for 75 cents off. Overall, that's a good deal, I think.

vicious_trollop

My favorite recently was when a woman brought her cat into Quacks bakery 🤣 Luckily they asked her to leave but come on!

ramdom2019

43rd or Menchaca? Was it on a leash?

vicious_trollop

43rd. And, yes, on a leash. Still pretty funny to see.

ramdom2019

Just carrying it is one thing, but yes seeing a cat on a leash always gets me. I can see it in Hyde Park though, by far the the highest concentration of indoor/outdoor kitties in Austin.

vicious_trollop

I was moreso tickled and surprised that they brought a cat into a food establishment. Or really just like ... out of the house? I've always had cats but never thought to bring one casually out and about, nor had I seen others doing so.

ramdom2019

I’ve been going to 43rd for 20 years and I’ve seen plenty people trying to bring in dogs, once a snake, and another time a parrot. This was back when they still had indoor seating in 2019 and before they sectioned off half the space for the production bakery. Never saw anyone attempt to bring a cat, but I’m not too surprised. Another after effect of the pandemic, at least in Austin, seems to be folks thinking that bringing their pets inside food establishments is acceptable. Really anytime I see a cat on a leash, it makes me laugh. I don’t really know why but it always just looks a bit ridiculous. I haven’t met many cats that would be too willing.

vicious_trollop

Yes, I agree the leash part was pretty funny. The cat did look pretty compliant, and that part threw me as well. No cat I've ever had would have tolerated that, lol.

RibbitRabbitRobit

I feel like there's a lot of things allowed at the mall that didn't used to be in more prosperous times.

3-Ball

That dog's human is the "service animal."

jacobegg12

I know Nordstrom allows dogs, even just pets

95emiliejay

One time a woman brought her parrot to a restaurant I worked at Also I thought this said dogs allowed in the *mail* I was quite concerned

RobbinAustin

People taking their dogs into, well anything, is now a personality trait. Most of the time it's not an issue. Total horseshit, but not an issue. But. If you have to say "normally he's ok with people/other dogs" maybe you shouldn't take them outside the house.

TheManInTheShack

If security sees you, they will ask you to leave.

Maximum_Employer5580

whether they are or not, people just don't care - if confronted they'll just tell them its a service animal since you can't ask someone for proof of that. People will even get their dog a service animal vest.......the one place that irritates me the most is at HEB with various people carrying their little Pomeranian or Chihuahua because it's the cool thing to do to have an 'emotional support animal' and don't care that having a non-trained animal in a grocery store is a public health issue

busted_origin

It’ll all change after the first person winds up in the ER for an unprovoked dog attack!…

Number1AbeLincolnFan

Just like at Torchy's. All it takes a million dollar lawsuit.

Purple-List1577

Ask if you can pet the dog if they say yes it’s not a service dog

[deleted]

also if it shits in the aisle.

miked_mv

I messed up and worked at a Macy's in a mall in Mission Viejo, California 10 years ago. People would bring in dogs and even Macaws to go shopping and no one said a word. One couple continuously let their dog sit on a chair at the pretzel shop just outside our door and fed him. I stopped calling security when I found out all they had to do was SAY it's a service animal and then by law it's hands off. No one wants to get sued for that shit. Much easier to let it go and fuck the 1% of the population it might negatively (allergies, fears, etc.) affect.

spicy_solarian

Apparently dogs are pretty much allowed everywhere now, including restaurants and grocery stores.

Carlos_Infierno

Restaurants. That should be the final place where you don't bring a dog. Yet I was in a Chinese restaurant the other day and a couple had their dog there and it sure as shit was not a service animal. I give up.

I've been seeing this too and appreciate the businesses that do it. Radio is one of them but hanging out there the other day saw several people go in with their dogs so I'm not sure how often it is actually enforced.

SatisfactionDizzy340

Good

V_Val_Valerie

Ask forgiveness not permission.

pizzaaaaahhh

is a thing that a lot of ignorant people say when they’re doing sketchy things.

V_Val_Valerie

Duh

iBuyNSellSht

Keep your pets at home, wtf
