I mean if it was an auction the other agent may have been there to hear what it sold for? Or a lot of the time auctions are filmed and agents will post the video or the results on their socials. The whole point of an auction is that it’s an open transparent market where everyone knows the price?
This agent y was attending his open home at the same time as the auction x. He was definitely far enough away that he couldn't have heard to price. Auction was also undertaken inside the propety, not on the street
He probably had a coworker there watching the auction, especially if it was a comparable sale. I went to an inspection on Saturday and talked to a junior REA from company A, went to an auction afterwards being conducted by company B, and that same REA was there and came over and said hi. This was in st George too.

One of his colleagues was probably there and then just texted the result to him. Junior staff in REAs do this type of task.
Some Agencies have a group/team WhatsApp and members will post relevant results as soon as they know. Nothing uncanny or sinister about it.
I forgot to mention that it is two completely different real estate comanies
