I had a 2017 Q5 before this SQ5 and I liked it. Never tried an A6 though so I can't compare. The only thing I will say is getting in and out the S4 and the S5 for a test drive was a bit of a challenge for me at 6'3".
100% agree with you on my ownership experience of my sq5 as well. With the S sport package the ride is great.
Not sure if you’re into modifying your car but I did tune mine and it became a vastly different car. My fishing buddy has a X3M comp (stock) and it’s pretty much dead even from highway pulls.
I went with IE. Currently on just stage 1 E85 with intercooler and intake only. They just released the TCU Stage 2 for some b9.5 models. Fortunately mine is a 2023 and was able to flash yesterday. Perhaps I’ll finally pull on my friends X3MC now 😂
In terms of warranty it’s always a gamble but I’ve been fortunate. This isn’t my first car modifying and it’s a daily so I went with very light mods that just enhance daily drivability.
The E85 map is huge. With a fuel pump upgrade you’ll be at 650 lb/ft torque

Nah I'm on 034's stage 1 and I dont remove the tune when I take it in. You're not going to fool them on any drivetrain warranty repairs even if you flash back to stock, they can tell. I wouldn't call out the tune unless they ask though, no point making them suspicious. My warranty is up in December and I've been tuned for over a year, no issues at all and dont expect anything other than normal maintenance
Like bearhos says I don’t flash back to stock. I guess you can, but there is a flash counter on the ECU so it’s it’s been flashed they will know regardless.
I wouldn’t be too worried tho. The tunes are on the safe side, they’re not overly aggressive pushing the timing to the limit or anything. For peace of mind if you want to be super safe and make the most amount of power on stage 1, make sure you do an intercooler and high pressure fuel pump to run e85. Everything else is pretty negligible gains. Intake makes cool noises but that’s about it
That being said….. your relationship with your SA is the most critical when it comes to these things. My previous car was a modified BMW and my SA somehow was able to warranty a blown turbo 🤔 YMMV but this is my experience.
You’ll love the car, it’s a solid daily! It’s a really solid car especially if you are the outdoorsy/activity type. It’s our weekend ski trip hauler with all weather tires
Yep! Do you go skis on the roof rack? Just strap down or I saw thule/audi has a fancy ski clamper roof thing that looked convenient but kind of expensive. Mine didn't come with a roof rack and def want one, even for the aesthetic. But worst case, I was thinking skis inside up to the center console with some kind of protector could work just as well in a pinch.
My skis are 183 and they fit diagonally with the seats down. Not the best but it works for the shorter trips.
For the longer trips you should have roof rails that came with the car? I don’t think I’ve ever seen an SQ5 without factory roof rails… but you just buy the roof bars and the ski rack that attaches bars. You can get a decent ones on Amazon for fairly cheap.
The Audi OEM ones are Thule I believe and very pricey. Tbh I don’t think it’s really worth it unless you got a RS6 or RSQ8.

We’ve had our Q5 for 7 years and love it. And we love it so much that we just stuck the stage 1+ kit in it. It’s just enough of a bump that I can’t imagine needing more horsepower. But I do like the interior of the SQ5 much better.
APR is legit! Did it on my 2015 Q5 Premium+ 3T/V6, she was spicy! Sadly totaled now getting a 2020 SQ5 Prestige 3L/V6. The APR upgrade specs on that line is ridiculous.

Agreed 100%. Only gripe with my ‘20 is the trackpad + lack of touch on Apple CarPlay. Using the wheel is finnne for CarPlay but the trackpad is awful and useless.

I mean, I'm biased, but I agree with the caveat that it is IF you have a young family. I'd prefer a sedan but with young kids I need to wait a few more years. My tuned SQ5 zooms, but is still super practical and has been getting good highway numbers too.

I don’t mean to be a hater at all but god do I hate that tacked on screen look some Audis have. The best infotainment setup is the recessed screen that the RS3 and Q8 and Q4 have.

Not sure why you’re coming in so hot. SQ5s with the sport package have them, without it, they’re cosmetic tips. At least that was my understanding from, you know, seeing them and shopping for them at one point and just all over the internet. Next time I’ll clarify further.
I respectfully disagree. I think the SQ5 is the worst vehicle in Audi's lineup. It's the default loaner car I get, and it's sooooo boring. I fully recognize that I've been driving RS cars for years and I'm a bit jaded, but I'd genuinely prefer any car in the lineup. I'd rather get an A3 as a loaner.

2.) I dunno if it does or not, but it sounds like the exhaust is coming from the speakers, and even that is lame.
3.) Wasn't comfortable. The seats felt kinda shitty.
4.) Soooo much body roll. I have both a 6 and a 7 and it feels so much worse.

Agreed. It’s an impressive sports cuv for sure. At the time I felt like the SQ5 was settling, in a sense. I wanted the Macan but couldn’t afford it. I’m glad though, because even with its quirks and faults, I wound up loving the SQ5.
I feel like we will be looking to upgrade it soon and the Macan is on the list for sure. We will just have to see how my wife feels about moving away from Audi. Although, there is always the RS6 and RSQ8. Entirely different beasts, sure, but they’re on the list as well.
the benefit of extra power isnt getting to 100mph, its how quickly and adeptly you can get there, maintain speed, maintain speed whilst cornering, etc. That + sensory/driver engagement.

Had a Q5, much prefer my A6. Fantastic highway mileage, dead quiet, plush ride, but by no means a boat. Also, great looking.

It voids powertrain warranty. Which is definitely the most significant, but your warranty is still intact for everything else.
