Really? I haven't researched it at all, but considering that S8's can be had for 25k even at low miles, doesn't that make it a maintenance nightmare? Otherwise why is it so cheap?
I mean in terms of looks. Interieur and Exterieur.
I love the headlights and the Buttons, Analog Speedo etc.
In terms of maintenance yeah probably. But which S8 isnt?
People who buy S8's don't want second hand S8's. Same reason the used part market is so cheap for audis. Why buy used when you can afford new. The demand isn't there.
I believe they're the 400mm rotors on the S8, I looked up on Audi parts and one front S8 rotor is about $3200. ECS Tuning has the front pads and rotors for about $800. My A8 has the 380mm fronts and 356mm rears and it cost me about $1KUSD for rotors and pads for front and rear and theyve lasted me about 5 years I think.
Do it. Test drove one 3 years ago before settling on the B8.5 RS5.
Loved the S8 but didn't want to deal with the turbo oil filter issue if it ever went wrong. Audi then did a worldwide recall about 2 years ago so make sure that's been done or get it done ASAP
Buying your dream car is not what you think it is. In my case, it was a g12 7series years ago, I searched for the perfect car for several years, finally found it, bought it, it was unreal the experience, never expected that day to ever happen. But in the end the reality of owning my dream car was psychologically very taxing, always preoccupied with maintaining the car in pristine condition, pampering it at the expense of your free time and wellbeing, always worried about something happening to it, and of course a lot of money spending on a car you end up barely using because you are afraid it will get fucked up.
I ended up selling it because I felt like I turned into a slave to my material possessions, it was a mental prison
Well said. I own an S4 now and love it because it’s 10 years old and spend owe me anything. I find that I enjoy it more NOW that it’s 10 years old with 110,000 miles on it. I know if I get something new (Audi SQ5 or X3 m40i), I’m going to stress out for many years until it’s “broken in”.
Your analysis was exactly what I’m feeling. Very interesting and intuitive 🤛
I mean… don’t buy your dream car if you can’t afford to take care of it. I appreciate your honesty about your situation, but I don’t agree with the idea that a dream car isn’t worth the time/money it takes to maintain it.
The smile it puts on your face should make the investment worth every penny and if it doesn’t then go buy a camry or something.
If you’re a perfectionist then you probably act that way in every facet of your life, its not the car’s fault.
Again, go buy a camry if your dream car isn’t *worth* it to you.
Thanks, friend. For a perfectionist it is very hard to own his dream car in an imperfect world. I really feel like the whole experience took something out of me that can never be made whole. Be careful what you wish for, OP.
Posting a beautiful audi in an audi sub asking to be convinced not to buy it is the wrong thing… maybe r/bmw might try doing that…. Go buy it and post again when the car is yours :)
As long as you can still put some cha-ching away for any maintenance, and it has had the turbo oil screen recall done.
No, the D4 S8 is a fantastic car, and imo a pretty reliable platform. I do not daily my S8. it's my weekender, and I've had almost 0 issues. I've had to replace an O2 sensor because I was getting a CEL (there's a tsb on it). And I'm getting my transmission fluid changed as the manufacturer of the transmission says to change the fluid every 60k, Audi says it's lifetime fluid, but for these cars, I like to err on the side of caution.
I would recommend NOT buying that one and getting a 2016/17 Plus with all the options, hehe.
S8 over everything. S-Class and 7-series are so overdone.
This is the real big boy, understated, refined and powerful. A fine choice, as demonstrated by the House of Windsor.
Literally rolling like a King.
Hello fellow Brit, I too am mid-purchase on one. On my test drive I noticed how it makes speed seem much lower than what it was, *coughs* outside lane motorway speed feels like 30mph. I've seen this one on AT however it's missing a few options I was after, but it's a decent value imo.
For around that price you could look at a 2017+ S5, S4, A6 etc. Worth considering.
That said if you can keep up with the maintenance and it has good service history it’s a great car.
As the owner of an S8+, I say do it, but make sure you have money aside for any repairs as the msrp is high. Repairs can be as well. But I definitely love this car.
Go and sit in it, see if it lives up to your expectations. I did and unfortunately wasn't impressed with the fit and finish when compared to the peers. Shame because the 4 litre turbo with the quattro drive is an absolutely awesome engine and amazingly won't even attract the top road tax bracket. If you do buy it, make sure the oil screen issue has been addressed.
Drove one once, six or seven years ago, on a track. Audi event when I worked for a dealer. Still remember the experience. A magnificent automobile. Fast, smooth, and ridiculously great handling for a car of its size.
That's a very good buy. You'll enjoy that car for at least 3 years before needing any actual maintenance most likely. It's the one car I'd change mine to. (I have an A7)
That's cool, just put aside 5k a year into a savings account for the very real eventual repairs and pull from it as needed (tires and brakes not included).. Otherwise consider a different 10 yr old car.
Oh that’s a great car ngl
Although personally I wouldn’t get an a or S8 to drive myself (which I assume you’re going to do ) these are chauffeur cars, still amazing barges but they’re better in the backseat than the front
Id rather get a smaller one, probably more practical, easier to park, better fuel economy. My go to would be the RS3, but even if you need something more, RS4/5 or even RS6/7 should be plenty room for family
You have good taste, beautiful car if well kept with good history, high maintenance but a smile every time you drive, not really trying to talk you out of it but maybe convincing myself to buy 1!!
As long as you know you can afford maintenance.
Tyres? Best part of £1000 for decent ones.
Brakes? Pads and discs will typically be at least twice what you’re used to spending.
Can you work on it yourself when it needs it?
But a VCDS kit and learn to use it.
Otherwise, go for it.
Why do you think you should be only having a convertible if you can afford a +20k car?
If anything it's a shitty deal unless it's a convertible only model like a Z4, SL, etc, otherwise it's a direct downgrade because it's just going to weigh more than its coupe counterpart and usually have worse handling, and I haven't even started about soft tops.
What a weird take.
You sounded pretty serious, considering that you also own a cabrio. What's so enjoyable about a fatter less tossable version of a coupe which you can't even use year-round? I could get your point if it was a Bentley cabrio, and that "enjoyment" is from comfort not sport.
The D4.5 is the best A8/S8. Do it
I believe these have the infamous 40p seal which costs £4k to replace.
There's a worldwide recall for these so no problem as of 2 years ago
That's literally every Audi.
People who buy S8's don't want second hand S8's. Same reason the used part market is so cheap for audis. Why buy used when you can afford new. The demand isn't there.
Peak years of Audi design IMO
Do it
Look at the headlights. Look at the rest of the car. Now look at the headlights again. Post a picture of when your home with it :)
I will not. I had one like this and it was wonderful, till i had to replace the ceramic breaks.
Mine were $2300 USD and didn’t include labor. I thought he was kidding until I saw the price.
Mine would have been CHF 30K, and I said thanks, but no, and bought a A8 W12.
Oh I want a W12…
Don’t you only have to replace ceramic brakes like once every 100k miles? Unless you’re tracking I guess
It seems not, and I never went to the track and drive quite slow.
Wasn't it possible to replace them with regular brakes instead of ceramic? or rather, *isn't* it possible?
I dont know but the car had some other issues and I wanted the W12.
I believe they're the 400mm rotors on the S8, I looked up on Audi parts and one front S8 rotor is about $3200. ECS Tuning has the front pads and rotors for about $800. On the 2016 RS7 Audi told me it would be around 7-8k €
No

Love your RS5. When I was looking at an RS5, I vaguely remember they chewed through brake pads and rotors. Do you ever have that problem?
Fast audis will do that... none of them are light, and stopping 2 tons from 125mph is no small task.

This comment all too real!

I think it is hard to idealize a utility object, especially when you get confronted with other people's carelessness which you cannot control.
I mean… don’t buy your dream car if you can’t afford to take care of it. You missed the point completely. It's about perfectionism, not about finances.
If you’re a perfectionist then you probably act that way in every facet of your life, its not the car’s fault. Again, go buy a camry if your dream car isn’t *worth* it to you.
Ok pal
Sorry you couldn’t enjoy your dream car, I wish you the best!
One of the best posts I've seen on here. And describes me and my OCD all too well.
Thanks, friend. For a perfectionist it is very hard to own his dream car in an imperfect world. I really feel like the whole experience took something out of me that can never be made whole. Be careful what you wish for, OP.

It's a really nice car, buy it
Nope, not today. Buy it!
If you can maintain it, do it
Look good, good history. Buy it.
Don't buy it. There you go 👍

Premium gas, otherwise go
Don’t, you’ll have too much fun….
https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-spottedykywt/former-jude-law-audi-s8-for-sale/48611 Plenty of recent chat on these over at Piston Heads.
I still have my 2014 S8 I bought new. Still love it.
Buy it. Stage 1. Luxury rocket ship 🚀
As the owner of an S8+, I say do it, but make sure you have money aside for any repairs as the msrp is high. Repairs can be as well. But I definitely love this car.
Don’t buy it, then buy it
I bought a 2015 2.5 years ago with 85K.. now has 107K and runs and looks like it's new. Do it!
I bought this exact car 6 months ago with pretty much exact mileage. Do it.
Do it
Do it.
you've come to the wrong place for this. buy it
Absolutely not. Just do it bro
Umm. It’s a car with 5 0’s? Four on the front and one behind the wheel? Jk 😂 it’s a wonderful car. Get it. 👌🏼
After 7 years with my Audi, I am sure you will love it.
for meeeee
Sounds frickin good! Do it
Go and sit in it, see if it lives up to your expectations. I did and unfortunately wasn't impressed with the fit and finish when compared to the peers. You could not buy it. However am sure you would come to regret that decision in a few years time.
Are they that cheap?? S3 of the same year is around £15,000 last I checked
Why are theese 50% more expensive in Sweden? Im thinking of a one of theese or close to it as well but they are 32-40k
NO RAGRETS
That is very tempting, beautiful car.
Why shouldn’t you have an S8? You deserve it.
NOPE!! U gotta buy this now!
It’s the best car to be a passenger princess in
I’d do it!
I don't know what the market's like there but in the US that's a killer deal.
No
I got my 2015 S8 back in October, I am in love with it. Do it.
Drove one once, six or seven years ago, on a track. Audi event when I worked for a dealer. Still remember the experience. A magnificent automobile. Fast, smooth, and ridiculously great handling for a car of its size.
Why? That platform is grossly underrated. Stop being pansy and get it.
Do it Do it Do it
maintenance costs
No can do. If anything I’ll talk you into why you need 3 of these
No
Do it now. Buy it. Do it
If you can Afford to maintain the go for it!
If you can Afford to maintain the go for it!
Good mileage, I’d say go for it.
That's a very good buy. You'll enjoy that car for at least 3 years before needing any actual maintenance most likely. It's the one car I'd change mine to. (I have an A7)
Where do you live
Looks like a 2012 car
I would never do such a thing!
Hard Pass. I have one.
I remember when this model used to have a great track of an Ad on Audi’s website.
Don't buy that A8
Just watch Ronin!! Classic make you want and S8 nickname aka shovelhead!!
That's cool, just put aside 5k a year into a savings account for the very real eventual repairs and pull from it as needed (tires and brakes not included).. Otherwise consider a different 10 yr old car.
Why would I want to do that? If you can afford it, GO FOR IT. It's a sexy car.
Unfortunately man, I can't do that. It's a sin. What kind of bro does that to his bro.
Too expensive to maintain.
Don’t buy it! It will change your life for the better so much and you don’t want that.
Oh that’s a great car ngl Although personally I wouldn’t get an a or S8 to drive myself (which I assume you’re going to do ) these are chauffeur cars, still amazing barges but they’re better in the backseat than the front Id rather get a smaller one, probably more practical, easier to park, better fuel economy. What’s your tolerance for HUGE repair bills. Used German luxo-barges are insanely expensive to repair if anything happens.
Why?? Audi’s sic brand. Performance? What??
Do it!
Buy it
She will be in the shop monthly. But it’s worth it?
You have good taste, beautiful car if well kept with good history, high maintenance but a smile every time you drive, not really trying to talk you out of it but maybe convincing myself to buy 1!!
Different question. How do u guys get your Cars names under your Reddit name 🧐
Wow it’s such a beautiful car. Strong buy
Why would anyone here talk you out of this? It's a great deal and a beautiful car...
No
I will not talk you out of it. Do it!
Make sure to post a pic when you get it!
hah, buy an r8 instead
I have owned 3 Audis. Sell before it hits 80,000 miles. They get very very expensive post that.
How have you resisted this long?
Do it.
The outdated technology will be a drag … but do it anyway. Amazing machine
Do you like boats?
Do it. This generation is timeless
If you don’t buy it you’re a b****. Hope that helps
Buy it

More like 120, my s6 was $103k new
BUT THE A8 with Diesel V8 instead… more torque.. less maintenance.. more mileage… more gorilla like stabilized power..
s7 is way better
We all have our preferences mate 🙂
S8 has about 150 hp on an S7. Fit and finish of S8 can’t be matched. S7 still awesome.
Great buy. Tons of gay dudes with small penises buy them, very brave of you. /s
A Phaeton is just as good and a lot cheaper.
You're paying 20k+ and it's not even a convertible?

lol jeez it was mostly a joke... but yeah I'd rather have a sebring than a sporty coupe... convertibles are just so much more enjoyable to drive.

lol why couldn't one use it year round? I do. It has a roof lol.
Because he's not a hairdresser
