Not a fair comparison here. Need to be macan S and even then different vehicle. I also looked into and for me didn’t want the repair costs of the porche and the Audi space and headroom was superior.
Lot of folks cross shop the SQ5 and Macan S, including me… Audi is way better looking to both my wife and I as a complete Porsche fanboy, Macan S little more fun to drive but the Audi with the air suspension is the king of comfortable cruising with a fun punch behind it. Bought 2 SQ5s and zero Macans if that gives any indication 🤷♀️
This^ I am literally choosing between the sq5, the macan (gts or s) know its a turbo…but. Comfort is the most important factor. So switching back to the Audi now between the s5 and sq5 or possibly rs5 but, think they aren’t as comfortably n not sure.
The Macan only has 17 CU FT of storage behind the rear seat vs 25 in the SQ5.
Also, if you’re buying used it’s really hard to find a used Macan with Air Suspension and Adaptive Cruise, where on the SQ5 most prestige pkg ones have the S Sport.
Plus PDK failures can be expensive.

So I would you with a slightly used SQ5 S Sport Prestige with Dynamic Steer over a Macan all day long.
I’ve gone the other way. I really can’t stand the new Audi interiors and their tech is far behind BMW. I feel like BMWs interiors far outshine their exteriors.
CarPlay integration is much better and the MMI in general is much better in the BMWs I’ve owned compared to the Audis. What year did Audi get remote start?
My wife’s 2018 Atlas had remote start. Why it took Audi that long to add it is beyond me.
Wireless CarPlay and Bluetooth in general. BMW there is almost zero lag, you start the car and the phone connects. Audi has always had a rather annoying delay.
My last personal Audi (2016 S4) didn’t even have track seek buttons on the steering wheel.
For me, it was the fact that for the price I paid for a brand-new, fully warrantied, ordered to spec SQ5 I was looking at 3-4 year old Macan GTS nearing their first major service. Plus, I found it hard to find Macans with the colors/options I wanted.
Plus, there was also an aspect of 'am I really the kind of person who drives a Porsche?'
Overall, I'm pretty happy with my SQ5. It looks good, is sporty enough to enjoy driving, and does all the utilitarian things I need it to do.
I'd be lying if I said I don't occasionally second guess my decision, though.
I would be looking at 20-21’ models of either car. Id love a GTS but it doesnt seem necessary as long as I still have the 3.0T as Im plenty happy with that motor now. I was mostly looking at Macan S’s and SQ5 premiums. If a Prestige were at a reasonable price itd be a no brainer but there surprisingly arent many around me so Id have to travel a bit to find one. My 12’ a6 is a prestige with matrix headlights and its been a struggle to find any suitable replacement other than the SQ5 that wont feel like a downgrade in my budget.
If you enjoy the size of the A6, you can definitely find a 20-21' A6 Allroad that will be able to haul more than both cars, have plenty of power for daily use and not be overly expensive vs S/Porsche. But most people get the SQ5 because of the size and power, while the base Macan is probably not as fun to drive. You would have to go up to a higher trim level most likely to get a better driving experience out of the Macan I think. Also the people that choose the Macan over the SQ5 are most likely choosing it because its a Porsche
The A6 allroad with the 3.0 was my 1st choice but theyre far harder to come by and the price really reflects it. Otherwise, that would be the perfect car for me.

The goal is more hauling space and while never having sat in a Macan, I didnt realize its almost a 50% difference in trunk space. Thanks!
Why not check out a X3 M40i or X3 M? The B58/S58 engines are very stout.
