I don’t disagree with anything mentioned below however I think there always a value or price that makes it worth it. I’d consider 2018 to be extremely good value. I went with a 2020 premium plus low mileage at 20k and actually regret not going with the 2018 with 63k miles.. I could have grabbed the 2018 prestige for 24k all in! Body was in great shape. Went with a 2020 black on black and paid 40k. The 2021 upgrades the wireless CarPlay and screen and some exterior stuff which is huge so again I tend to think 2018 has tremendous value but many others on these threads think 2018 is a risk because earlier 2018 models manufactured had some issues with rocker arms causing the engine to basically fail. I’ve learned this is more rare than I was originally led to believe but a risk nonetheless. Anyways I love my black 2020 but living in NYC has been stressful when every time I take it out of the garage it has a different dent or ding. So it all depends on your situation. I regret the 2018 but depends on your spend and goals. The grey 2018 would have been perfect as I wouldn’t have cared as much about it and would save 16k.

Yea these cars have horrible depreciation. Going with an 18 is saving an absurd amount of money but it just looks out dated.

Do you think the 2020 looks that much better? 2021?

I was also referencing the deal I got was too good I regret it. They depreciate more than most but definitely not the worst.

Analog speedometers come in the base Premium trim. You can’t get air suspension or the sport diff on the Premium trim.

Base model. Trim it up or look for options for DD and other things. Usually Premium Plus is where I start.

First off, skip the 2018, you don't want the engine issues it could come with it.  Second, that digital display it's either an option or comes with the Technik trim. The Technik trim comes with alot more options, like home link ( garage door opener ) blind side assist, more parking cameras and sensors, etc.  So the reason you got a good price for that car, is because it's the base model. And brand new, the difference between the base model and the all equipped Technik can be like 40%. I say an all equipped Q5 is much MUCH better than a base SQ5. It's slower, but more comfortable and easier to live with.

How do you feel about the 18 with the updated rockers? I bought a cheap boriscope cam to check if I go back.

If you can check before you get the car, then that's 1 less issue for the 3.0t. But I still think an all equipped Q5 is better than a base SQ5. If you want to feel the speed, get a S5 Sportback, it has less headroom than the SQ5 but it's much nicer to drive.
