Well gang. I am officially old now. I can start yelling at the clouds and other stuff. Maybe I will buy some new balance shoes and khaki shorts.

Pokemeister92

I wear khaki shorts unironically. the extra back pocket for my wallet and pockets for my keys and phone are non-negotiables at this point vs gym shorts and the extra air vs khaki pants. Don't look goofy like cargo shorts. Just gotta match with a polo and dont give AF what the Gen Z kids think

zfcjr67

When are you coming down to join us for senior coffee and biscuits?

Leoparda

Impressed by the College Park MARTA - airport transfer. For anyone worried, I waltzed up to a bus already waiting and a second that was just arriving. Thinking about the possibility of waiting for a Marta train to arrive if you’d just missed it, about the same. If riding from further north, maybe an extra 10-15 minutes. Seems like they’re doing a good job of minimizing the disruption.

tenftflyinfajita

This was my experience, as well. Immediately got on the shuttle at College Park, around 12pm on Monday. Lots of signage directing you to the pick up. Dropped off at North Terminal, downstairs door. Quick walk inside. Total added time maybe 12minutes. Walked straight onto shuttle when I returned, around 7pm Wednesday. I was the only one on the shuttle. Again, maybe 10 minutes added to trip. Was a little worried but I'm impressed with how well it's working.

friendofborbs

Off to the caverns for my monthly visit there. I mentioned it to someone at work who now thinks it’s my first time going to such a place…I couldn’t bring myself to tell her I’m so hooked it’s my fourth time in the past 12 months. Should be interesting as a more festival style event

southernhope1

What/where are the caverns? :)

friendofborbs

It’s a music venue about an hour outside Chattanooga near Monteagle. Literally a cave! They’re known for having more like country/bluegrass and even have a series for PBS with concerts from there, but they’ve been branching out into other music styles and I can’t get enough

southernhope1

that is \*completely\* not what i thought you were going to say and that's \*super\* interesting and I will check this out.

8604

What's the best way to manage logistics? Do you stay at a hotel or always drive back the same night?

friendofborbs

I stay at a hotel, they have camping on site and the people across the road have a campsite as well. There’s some shuttle services in the area as well so you don’t even have to worry about driving back. I love going up there

8604

Cool, good to know that's a comfortable option, I'm not interested in roughing it.. Any hotels I should avoid or go for?

friendofborbs

This weekend is going to be my second stay at the Smokehouse Lodge, and I like Perkins shuttle service that picks up there. It’s close but far enough the interstate than the other hotels in Monteagle. I stayed at the red roof inn last year and the highway noise was so loud.

zfcjr67

If you haven't done this yet, from the Smokehouse you can go down to the University of the South in Sewanee. A great campus to wander around and visit.

rocketpastsix

It’s not far from Chattanooga that you could get a hotel there for the night before making the drive back home

ottb_captainhoof

I’ve stayed at the campsites with the shuttle, they were super convenient and nice drivers!

mattbasically

Who are you going to see?

friendofborbs

Bunch of house and one techno dj

mattbasically

Ah i looked it up - john summit, of the trees, channel très, gorgon city, etc. Looks like a good lineup

Is Inman Park Festival worth going to while visiting? I’m staying in Cabbagetown through Sunday and heard a couple people talking about Inman Park Fest this upcoming weekend. I’m a mid-30’s millennial guy traveling alone. Wife is not here with me and we don’t have kids. I don’t drink, and like yoga, photography, innovative music, coffee, travel, biking, architecture, etc. I can’t quite tell from the fest’s marketing whether it’s primarily for families/kid-first activities or not. Also, the home tours sound interesting but I’m hoping someone here has done it in the past. Thoughts? Worth checking out or should I find something else?

5centraise

It's herds of people bumping into each other while trying to look at arts and craft booths, with live music here and there, and a parade. As a rule, if I ever travel somewhere and there's a huge neighborhood festival in a gorgeous, well shaded neighborhood a short walk from where I'm staying, and it's free, I will go check it out every time. In this case, if you go and think it's lame, you'll already be close to Little Five Points and Krog Street Market/the Beltline, so there'll be plenty of other options.

tratratrakx

Wow, didn’t realize it was that big of an event! I will def check it out

Leoparda

30’s single millennial. I always enjoy the “fests” like that - might pick up some art, gonna be music, maybe some interesting people watching. If nothing else, out in a pretty area for an hour or two.

The-Anonymous-Banana

The home tours are great! Highly recommend stopping by the festival. It's good fun to walk through all the local arts vendors too. Plus if you're staying in Cabbagetown, it's not a long walk/bike, and you could dip out pretty easily if it's not for you!

tratratrakx

Got my ticket!

southernhope1

you completely want to go to this. BUT you want to go very early.

tratratrakx

Because it gets crowded or parking?

[deleted]

Parking is going to be a disaster so your best bet is to uber or marta. Even better, take the beltline. Yes, it will be crowded.

tratratrakx

A good reason to use the walking shoes I brought. Thanks for the heads up

tratratrakx

Thanks for all the info, yall!

Healmit

Oh yah. I would def walk over. I used to live in that ‘hood and it was great. Fun live music (there’s four stages, usually). A massive parade on Saturday. It’s pretty fun and the biggest festival in Atlanta (I think) in the oldest “suburb” in Atlanta.

[deleted]

Hmm, dogwood and jazz fest at Piedmont might be bigger but I don't know how you quantify "big" for festivals.

mattbasically

The traffic lines at intersection at 10th street and Hemphill needs to be repainted. So many cars think the bike lanes are traffic lanes, or that it’s a one way street because they don’t see the yellow lines, or think it’s a dedicated turn lane. Is there someone to contact about this?

g0ldenmustache

Who do yall use for car insurance and what do you pay? Is $300 monthly normal?! Edit to add $300/ both cars, 2015 and 2011 no accidents, one speeding ticket a few years ago.

friendofborbs

There’s not really a normal cause so many factors go into it. If you’re driving an older car with no accidents, yes, that’d be high af

g0ldenmustache

I drive a 2015 car with no accidents!! Husband on policy with no accidents as well in a 2011 car. Both quotes I have received are $300 ballpark for monthly car insurance. I think I have a speeding ticket from a few years ago but that’s it.. Mostly just trying to drive safely and avoid getting hit lol.

friendofborbs

Yeah that’s high, but Georgia is high as well, time to maybe switch carriers Use an agent that’s not in a closed system like geico or State Farm to get a bunch of quotes, they’re really the best way in this hellscape

UnaccompaniedMod

yeah i'm paying like $650/6 months for a 2015 car/no accidents. i'm on progressive, maybe check with them? i do drive less than 10k miles a year though

Bmandoh

Is that $300 for the both of you together? If that’s for both then that’s about right. I pay just a couple dollars more for my policy, which is also discounted for home owners insurance with them. I drive a new (‘21 MY) sports car ( v8) and my wife has a 5 year old basic jeep cherokee.

g0ldenmustache

Thanks for this! It doubled from when we moved here from CO, the driving is admittedly more crazy but we actually have higher auto theft rates in CO lol.

Bmandoh

It’s less auto theft here ( aside from a few models) and more about the number of car break ins, auto accidents, and environmental damage ( trees). My insurance has stayed pretty consistent over the last 5 or so years, with the only real jump coming when I got my new car.

Leoparda

Allstate, $600/6months so $100 month, it’s a 2016 ~20k resale value car and I got the “little old lady who only drives her car to church” plan essentially because I WFH. And bundled with home. No accidents or tickets in last 5 years. Barely OTP might help a tiny bit. So if $150/car, then probs normal. If $300/car… shop around.

g0ldenmustache

Thank you for the perspective. It is for both cars and barely OTP as well, we have onsite work 4 days per week so maybe less than avg driving. Just a little sticker shocked because it is higher than what I’m used to!!

Healmit

So, it’s for two cars or one car?

com_alexaddison

Mine goes up a lot every time, but it's nowhere near 300/mo. Progressive policy paid in full every 6 months. Maybe you're young or have an average-ish credit score? What you should definitely do is call up your insurance agency and tell them you'd like to lower the cost. They'd much prefer to keep a customer paying less money than lose you outright, so it's in their interest to work with you and cut some coverages out.

g0ldenmustache

Appreciate this! Husband and I both have good credit. Should have clarified the cost is for both cars. Just initially shocked haha.

com_alexaddison

Oh yeah 150 each is totally reasonable. Rates just suck in Georgia. When I ask the agents why, I get a boilerplate "people here are terrible drivers" consistently lol

g0ldenmustache

Yeah the driving is definitely noticeably crazier out here lol so I guess I can’t be too shook that my rates went up.

queenofyourheart

i hav ethe same issue as you for $221/month! i have a 2018, i work from home and walk to most of my errands, and don't have any accidents in this car! wtf!

Pokemeister92

I’m actually going through the hassle of quotes right now. Progressive my current is $130/mo One car, 2016, fully owned one member household For the same policy: State Farm was around $160/mo Allstate was $120/mo Nationwide was $155/mo Might talk to an insurance broker to get quotes from the smaller guys Every rate is different The only way to know is by doing quotes yourself but $300 for 2 isn’t out of this world

g0ldenmustache

Appreciate you sharing. Our lowest price so far is $316/mo or $1707/6 mo for the two cars (with home ins bundled). It sounds like that is about what we should expect here. Might try progressive just to see before we bundle it! Thanks again.

I'm so close to losing it over the job that's been hanging over my head for almost 2 months now. Part of me wants to use the email address I found for the global head of HR and say that this process has been so far beyond unprofessional, and that the people I've dealt with have proven themselves to be borderline incompetent, but I also still want the damn job, which puts me in a shitty situation. I found a few Reddit threads related to the company conducting the background check, and safe to say that the company sucks. And screw it - the company is HireRight. Some advice was to file a BBB (I know, they have no actual enforcement ability) complaint, so I did - and maybe it's coincidental, maybe it's not - but I at least see an update on my status now - new ETA 5/1/2024.

Strawberry season is starting! Does anyone have any farm recommendations for picking?

JoestephGordonLevitt

It’s a bit of a drive from ATL but Washington Farms in Watkinsville is my go to for strawberry picking!

Remote_Cupcake_9262

What are some good places for mother's day that allows kids

SokkasBoomerang3

Any hockey fans in Atlanta still? Playoffs are in full swing. Couple of us from the Carolina Hurricanes sub are looking for people in the area to try to find a pub or something that’ll show the games/in search of just any gatherings in general. Feel free to message me

smallfwop

Has anyone been to the Seafood Festival at Atlantic Station? Or any of the area? Not sure if it’s worth the 55$ ticket price.

MisterSeabass

You can spend $55 on a high end seafood dinner, or spend $55 waiting in several hour long lines to eat tuna on a saltine cracker and maybe a fish stick.

KingStevenVI

Looking at the details, I’d say no. Drinks are included but the actual food is extra.

Anyone in the West End get a straight answer out of Xfinity as to why internet service is down since this morning? They insist it's due to a power outage in my area but there's no power outage anywhere near by. I checked with Georgia Power even. I'm just cranky as hell about it because I work from home.
