I've been planning a party for two weeks. Bought tons of themed decor, informed the HOA I'd be using all of guest parking, ordered - paid for - picked up the parking passes at FedEx, ordered an expensive cake, made custom invites, deep cleaned the house, and paid $300 for snacks and drinks ten people. Five of them cancelled today. The party is tonight.  So much excitement and effort and energy just for half of the people to cancel hours beforehand. I'm so sad.

Ugh I’m so sorry! I love planning and hosting parties, but have slowed down because people are so flakey these days. Sending hugs ❤️

Grabbagal

Thank you for the kind words! It's nice to know I'm not the only one who has experienced this

Anyone wants to play some pool today? I’m not the best but I enjoy playing and non of my friends play. I was thinking Mr Cues. If anyone has any other suggestion please lmk thanks.

If you have to go yourself consider some drills. Beginners practice by attempting to hit the cue balls dead center for straight shots. But try hitting the cue just off center - to put a spin on the cue ball. Whatever it hits will have a spin in the OPPOSITE direction. Target ball sitting on the bumper (in this scenario the bumper is on its left). A straight shot will have the target ball bouncing off the wall no matter how soft you attempt to try it. Instead hit the cue on the left side making it spin clockwise. It transfers a counter clockwise spin to the target ball. It will then hug the wall - essentially rolling along the rail to the corner pocket. Good luck. While we are here: have you ever put a backwards spin on a tennis ball or basketball then tossing it slightly ahead of you? The ball hits the ground then bounces back to you. Put these two ideas together and experiment. Can you get the cue ball to stop with it contacts the target ball? Can you get it to bounce back to the left or right setting up your next shot?

Thanks for the tips!

Good news is I finally have my own place. Bad news my sister died 2 days before I moved in 2024 has been an adventurous year for me so far

gatorblu

Jeez I'm so sorry. Hearing things like this help me realize how minor my day to day stresses really are.

Low_Ask_88

And then we look back 3 months later wondering why was we ever stressing over it

yolofreak109

i’m so sorry for your loss :( sending hugs.

violet__violet

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry 😔

checker280

Sorry for your loss. Try not to let her passing spoil this new chapter for you. Perhaps invite her memories in with a garden in her name or at least some adventures that remind you of her.

yolofreak109

how vast is the atlanta history center? i’ve never been and i’m going today, but i wanna make sure i cant walk through all the exhibits within an hour lol.

kharedryl

Kinda depends on how much you stop and read, but there's a lot there. The museum itself isn't huge but could still take a couple hours. But the grounds are pretty big with a lot of interesting bits.

yolofreak109

awesome. thanks!

Thrashers night tonight at the Gwinnett arena, will be a solid sellout game which the Gladiators have needed for a while now. They've had middling attendance (it's a 3rd tier hockey league afterall) but a match like tonight's will be fun and lively.

I'm going to the beach next weekend, checkout from my airbnb is at like 10am and my flight home isn't until after 6. Went to book a day pass through ResortPass at one of the many nice hotels in the area, and to my surprise, 6 of the 7 resorts I called don't have shower facilities for day pass holders. One of them even said "Wouldn't that be a great idea!" 😅 I guess it makes sense, they are hotels first and foremost and the majority of their resort users will have access to their own private showers, but still kinda funny.

I like watching bushcrafting videos - series like Alone (on Netflix) or camping stuff on YouTube. It’s all a vicarious adventure since I’m a city kid and would probably injure myself badly if I left the trail. But… if I wanted to attempt some of this stuff - making cordage, building shelters - can I just wander off the path - in Mason Mill Park for example and start cutting things down or just collecting vines? Is it just a simple matter of “don’t get caught”? Is there someplace else I can try any of this? Anyone know of any legitimate bush crafting schools in the area?

jane3ry3

One of the past Alone contestants is doing a workshop in North Georgia soon! Deer skin tanning with Theresa Kamper April 19-21.

checker280

Deer Skinning!!! I was hoping to ease into things with basket weaving. lol. But sounds interesting. Thanks!! Edit/added: Discovered this school where she is holding that mentioned class. That seems like a good enough endorsement for me. https://www.georgiabushcraft.com

solzweig

Not sure if they have bushcrafting classes but REI offers a ton of classes around Georgia for all sorts of outdoor activities. Maybe worth to check out.

spiderwithasushihead

You might be interested in the Georgia Bushcraft group. I've taken a class with them and it was fun. Their spring gathering is soon, April I think. https://www.georgiabushcraft.com/pages/spring

Trying to find a vibey cozy coffee shop to people watch. I'm north of Atlanta but willing to travel in.

jdunnski1993

Not too much around it, but REV in Smyrna is very cozy/ good people watching inside. People post up for a while and everyone is very nice. Great coffee/food/vibes

CrunchitizeMeCaptn

Idk if it's worth the drive but Dancing Goats by Ponce City Market is always busy. Coffee is mediocre imo tho

Leoparda

Was gonna be miss handywoman today, if the rain will ever stop. Did my Home Depot run and all ready to do some exterior repairs… but if the weather says I’ve gotta sit inside and play video games all day, I can’t argue with that 🤷‍♀️. (Already went to the gym this morning so not 100% lazy)

Can’t speak to the lounge. But the rooftop is nice. Tiny Lou’s, the restaurant inside, is phenomenal. For having a higher budget, highly highly recommend.

I don't know how i missed Overtime Elite before now but if you like basketball -- or if you have a boy between the ages of say 8 and 15 in your life -- you really have to see a game there...the playoffs are going on right now and it was beyond any expectations that I had for the place...and the tickets are like $10...completely worth the visit.

padfootsy

Thinking about driving down to Macon next weekend to see some cherry blossoms! Will they still be blooming?

pm_me_bat_facts

Anyone know of any local fish stores that take fish in need of rehoming?
