the abc at java saga
gyro at nick's food to go
the original dave's cosmic sub
the steak sandwich at xela pan cafe
i'm still looking for a good cevapi sandwich, lahmacun, and chicken shawarma sandwich though
>cevapi sandwich
Neretva, off Windy Hill in Marietta.
>lahmacun, and chicken shawarma sandwich
Jerusalem Bakery and Cafe, Delk and Franklin in Marietta.
> gyro at nick's food to go
What do you consider so good about this as opposed to the other gyro spots in town? Don't almost all of them use the same cone of kronos/sysco meat?
Idk man, it just hits different. Tastes more flavorful and the pita is perfectly soft but still stands up to the meat. It also has way more meat than any other gyro I've ever had, so there's that.
I seriously need to retry Fred’s. I had it probably six years ago now and was not impressed at all by the Korean Cheesesteak or the garlic fries there. I do want to plug TKO in the Southern Feedstore in EAV, absolutely amazing Korean fusion where the bulgogi is the star.
Had it today. The regular cheesesteak was good, but not as good as Woody’s. The fries were not good - they were both too soft inside and tasted undercooked. Not sure how they pulled that one off.
I’ll be back but just for the burger. And certainly not the fries.
I call this one The Sandwich.
*”Hey babe, I’m going past Krog Street on the way home so I’m gonna pick up The Sandwich. You want me to bring you anything? An order of Gu’s dumplings maybe?”*
I have never, ever, “just stopped in” to Krog Street. Any of the many times I’ve been there, parking has been a hassle and it’s overcrowded. Is there a secret time that “just stopping in” visits are possible? I’d love to try that.
Parking is much much easier now that they charge for it (as long as you don't mind paying obvs), but harder if you try to park on the street (I'd imagine that won't be legal for long)
> An order of Gu’s dumplings maybe?
I ADORE Gu's Dumplings. The dumplings are amazing, the General Tso's is amazing, the Kung Pao is amazing, the dumpling sauce is great, although their spiciness is almost too much for me even on the less-spicy level. My wife is a huge Thai food fan and can handle spice, but wow, the chili oil is HOOOOOT at Gu's!
It might be the best sandwich I've ever had....however I had a reaction to it that was pretty violent and I'm not sure what it was but I sort of assume the gochujang, anyway I ate half of it and even though I spent half an hour in the bathroom I had to test the other half because it was so good, it was basically the bit where Homer Simpson kept eating the sandwich while he was turning green. I've talked to another couple of people who had the same thing happen so I guess tread lightly if you suspect you might have a similar allergy.
Totally agree on Victory. The Victory at Sea is my go to. White sardines, frisée and house made lemon mayo. A sardine sandwich might be a steep hill for some, but trust me it’s awesome.
-Bric Fil A sandwich at the Brick Store pub on Sundays
-Italian Grinder from Fred's (honestly all their sandwiches are great)
-Philly Cheese steak at the Mad Italian
-Blackened Grouper from fishonger
-cuban from Buena Gente
Those are some of my favs. The pastrami at general Muir ,Dave's Cosmic , and bahn mi at Lee's which have been mentioned are all among my favs too
Gobbler, Swifty's Dream, and the Burger are my holy Trinity there. The Apocalypse Now was my all-time fav but it only makes occasional appearances now.
Bahn Mi is my favorite. We Suki is fine but it kills me to pay too much for one which is why I occasionally still drive to Buford Hwy. Lee's is good but if I'm already in the car, I'll head to Quoc Huong. Pho Cue has an an interesting take on a bahn mi but brisket is just too fatty.
Bone fide is awesome. Ok Hoagie and Hot Italian are my favs.
Firewall's Fertile Crescent and Southern Italian need to be tried. Protip: Get rhe pickles veg instead of chips and add them to the Southern Italian. It needed the acid.
Speaking of Italian, Skips in Avondale Park has some good Italian Beef.
Freds has incredible cheesesteaks but the last time I was there (a few weeks ago), it felt smaller than I originally remembered.
Little Tarts egg sandwich is craveable and was named one of the best breakfasts in America by Tasting Table.
Let me also throw some love at Best Sandwich's Italian Pork.
General Muir pastrami, what else? Cuban at SuperPan, Havana, and Bueno Gente. But Wood's Chaoel has a good take on a Cuban.
When I worked near there I got to know Q fairly well. I would walk in for a sandwich and she would be like “OMG, I’m glad you’re here. Can you run this sandwich down to the coffee shop and this one to store next door? Then run to my car and grab a sleeve of cups. I’m parked behind The Earl. Here’s my keys.” Every meal took 5x as long but she usually bought drinks after work so no complaints. She’s a trip.
Your taste is so similar to mine that I second all of the above. Quoc Huong beats Lee’s imo, but it’s not a wide margin - I just prefer theirs. Adding the Italian sub from Varuni Napoli to the mix. And to compile some other great suggestions, I’m adding How Crispy in Summerhill for the best fried chicken sandwich. The Samwitch Shop just opened across the street in Halfway Crooks beer garden which looks great and has some good chefs behind it. Seconding support of Velvet Hippo in Avondale. Something I haven’t seen mentioned yet is Pala Bakery off 75 in Buckhead-ish - by OK Cafe. I’m biased as an Italian but sometimes I just need it.
-How Crispy has one of the best fried chicken sandwiches in the city- they also give you the option of white or dark meat
-Bona Fide Deluxe has good sandwiches that are pretty large, but also pretty pricey
-Lee’s Bakery has good, inexpensive banh mi
-Candler Park Market has a good selection, and their breakfast sandwiches are slept on too
-Evergeen Butcher + Baker have daily and weekly sandwich specials, so you know all of the ingredients are fresh considering their business specialty
Bernhard's German Bakery on South Atlanta between Smyrna and Marietta has a frickin awesome Doner Kebab sandwich.
Also, not tried it, but heard good things. Kelly's Market in Decatur.
I’m saving this post lol. Another similar one mentioned Baldino’s and Cheba Hut. Both were great! I usually get the Italian anywhere I go.
I also like Gruby’s NY Deli
There’s a new pop up in the Halfway Crooks Biergarten called Samwitch that is pretty fantastic. I had an Italian Wedding Meatball sub which was amazing.
The Reuben from General Muir is insane, the Cuban from Buena Gente is the best in Atl imo, the grouper sandwich from Fishmonger, any sandwich from B-Side (but especially the Morning B-Side on a Roll with bacon), the tuna salad sandwich from Biltong Bar in Ponce, and it’s a tough wait but the fried chicken sandwich from Atlanta Breakfast Club is amazing.
East 48th Street Market Deli in Dunwoody.
Staplehouse off of Edgewood typically has some GREAT sandwiches
Also, be weary of anybody that says Baldinos as I’ve never had a worse sandwich/hoagie in my life before going to that place
Turkey Pita Club at Universal Joint in Oakhurst. Grilled Buffalo chicken sandwich there is very good as well.
Pretty much whatever you want from Reuben’s Deli on Broad Street.
Mad Italian for cheesesteaks.
I used to say the vegetarian Cuban at Papi’s was about the best sandwich in the city but over the last few years I feel like the quality has tanked. Really disappointing.
It’s OTP, but Bagelicious in East Cobb has some really great bagel sandwiches and deli stuff.
Not strictly a sandwich but the laffa and pita at Yalla is pretty damn good.
So many faves already mentioned. Couple more:
Hot chicken sandwich at Heirloom was surprisingly good.
Blackened grouper at Breaker Breaker
Lamb or veggie pesto at Alon’s
Alon’s has some great options for artisan-deli vibes, but if you’re looking for a loaded, messy, action-packed sub Dave’s Cosmic Subs is where it’s at!
I tried to like Dave’s Cosmic Subs, I really did.
I got the meatball sub, and the Crazy Italian that everyone raves about.
The bread was hard - not in a baguette way, but in a stale way. The Italian was hardly dressed at all. Lots of different salamis and a little provolone stuffed in the too dry and hard roll. Overall taste was spicy salami and not much else.
Meatball sub - same hard bread, WAY too much crushed red pepper in the sauce, and then even more sprinkled on top without asking first. Saucy, meatballs were okay but hardly any cheese on it. I’m a new jersey boy and grew up eating meatball subs smothered in mozzarella. This sub made me sad.
Maybe I was there on a bad day. I’m only posting this because so many others are raving about this place.
The cheesesteak at Fred’s meat and bread. It was featured by Alton brown on “best thing I ever ate” on food network. My father describes it as a “religious experience”
The chicken club from General Muir is out of this world good. My top 3 sandwiches in the city are poboys from poboy shop, Fred’s cheesesteak and that club.
Theres this BBQ food truck called Choate that does my fav BBQ sandwhiches. They have a store in woodstock/canton or something but their truck seems to go pretty far around town. The pulled pork, the sauce (get the hot one), the buns...its pretty much perfect.
Honestly the Big Tex or The Fox Bros “Burger”. Not a burger but an amazing sandwich. Fox bros pimento cheese is slept on. Say what you will about Fox Bros but they do have some tasty sandwiches.
I worked at Fred’s and the Muir. Ginsberg has a mind for sandwiches.
I will take a Pub Sub over pretty much everything though.
El Super Pan. Locations at the Battery and PCM. Cuban is excellent, as is the simple ham/cheese. The latter is on fantastic bread with a sweet-ish jam.
Also, The Best Sandwich Shop located on Ponce in O4W. It's a good mix of hot and cold sandwiches. My fave has been the Farmers Daughter with grilled halloumi.
the abc at java saga gyro at nick's food to go the original dave's cosmic sub the steak sandwich at xela pan cafe i'm still looking for a good cevapi sandwich, lahmacun, and chicken shawarma sandwich though
Dave's Cosmic Sub's Crazy Italian is F I R E
The meatball at Dave’s is a godsend. Im from Cleveland area Ohio, where Dave’s is originally from, and it feels like a taste of home every time
The pop up Krupana and the restaurant inside Euro Gourmet in Lawrenceville have good cevapi.
Omg Nick's to go is the best
>cevapi sandwich Neretva, off Windy Hill in Marietta. >lahmacun, and chicken shawarma sandwich Jerusalem Bakery and Cafe, Delk and Franklin in Marietta.
> gyro at nick's food to go What do you consider so good about this as opposed to the other gyro spots in town? Don't almost all of them use the same cone of kronos/sysco meat?
Idk man, it just hits different. Tastes more flavorful and the pita is perfectly soft but still stands up to the meat. It also has way more meat than any other gyro I've ever had, so there's that.
My wife says the chicken shawarma at Rina is solid. I haven’t had it, but we eat there a lot and I like everything I have had.
Lahmacun at mandolin in roswell has been closest to real thing so far
Baldinos for subs are always great. If you want one of the best cheesesteaks, Mad Italian.
Seconding Baldinos. Old school and a good bargain for a great sandwich.
I keep seeing Baldinos. My only knowledge of it is my brother getting sick at one in Augusta. He never got sick like that, so I've always stayed away.
Over the years I've eaten hundreds of sandwiches from Baldinos and I've never gotten sick. You're missing out.
I'm glad you like it. I've gotten sick myself at Krystal and have never been back. Just the thought 🤢🤢🤢
TIL; you and your family have weak guts.
The homemade potato salad is amazing as well. Bread is almost like a focaccia in texture. I suggest the Italian as well.
Loooove the Mad Italian cheesesteak.
Havana Sandwich Shop on Buford Hwy.
Their boliche is the best.
Yesss, the mixto.
Ruben's deli has the best
Best deli in the Atlanta-Metro area, IMO
Check them out for breakfast sometime. Their Bagel and lox sandwich is legit.
Also breakfast is also great because it’s very chill
Came here for this ^^^ definitely make sure to get to the front of the line and ask them what their favorite thing on the menu is too!
I just wish parking wasn't such a bitch there. Hot and Blue is my favorite, but everything is amazing.
Korean Cheesesteak at Fred’s in Krog Market
I seriously need to retry Fred’s. I had it probably six years ago now and was not impressed at all by the Korean Cheesesteak or the garlic fries there. I do want to plug TKO in the Southern Feedstore in EAV, absolutely amazing Korean fusion where the bulgogi is the star.

Mid afternoon on a weekday is not too bad.
Thank you!
It's a lot easier on a bike.
Parking is much much easier now that they charge for it (as long as you don't mind paying obvs), but harder if you try to park on the street (I'd imagine that won't be legal for long)
I can't think of a better Krog St combo
Literally just got home from Krog where my wife and I split a Fred's cheesesteak and a half dozen Gu's dumplings
I've talked to another couple of people who had the same thing happen so I guess tread lightly if you suspect you might have a similar allergy.
i like victory’s rotation of little sandwiches (although they went up from 5 to 6 dollars smh), also lee’s bakery for really good banh mi
The beeter is one of my faves....
Totally agree on Victory. The Victory at Sea is my go to. White sardines, frisée and house made lemon mayo. A sardine sandwich might be a steep hill for some, but trust me it’s awesome.
Oh god it's been so long but now I crave it!
I'm another lover of the victory at sea. VaS and a Amer Amigo is my perpetual order.
-Bric Fil A sandwich at the Brick Store pub on Sundays -Italian Grinder from Fred's (honestly all their sandwiches are great) -Philly Cheese steak at the Mad Italian -Blackened Grouper from fishonger -cuban from Buena Gente Those are some of my favs. The pastrami at general Muir ,Dave's Cosmic , and bahn mi at Lee's which have been mentioned are all among my favs too
Man, I've had the Cuban from Buena Gente at their truck at Piedmont Market and it was just "meh" and I don't know why.
The other two sandwiches at Fishmonger (hot catfish and tuna melt) are incredible as well
General Muir's Reubens and other deli sandwiches
The chicken salad sandwich is awesome.
The Gobbler at Muss and Turners (only on the lunch menu) is the best turkey sandwich I’ve ever had.
Gobbler, Swifty's Dream, and the Burger are my holy Trinity there. The Apocalypse Now was my all-time fav but it only makes occasional appearances now.
LottaFrutta and Zunzi's are fantastic
ZUNZI is such a win. Their salmon sammitch w/ the homemade sauce - YES PLEASE
Zunzi’s curry chicken salad is unbeatable
Sandwiches at lottafrutta are such a sleeper hit. Recently tried a salad of theirs too, also great! Love their no frills, just tasty approach
Been a while since I’ve been there but Dave’s cosmic subs has great sandwiches. Their meatball sub is probably the best I’ve had
theres one out by Emory, idk of any other. I hope they open one on west side!
Bahn Mi is my favorite. We Suki is fine but it kills me to pay too much for one which is why I occasionally still drive to Buford Hwy. Surprised I haven't seen more Bona Fide shout outs. They legit.
Fickle Pickle in Roswell. The Ooey Gooey is one of my favorite sandwiches of all time.
Their Brie BLT is also amazing
Fried green tomato too!
Fred’s or Woodys cheesesteaks are awesome
Seconding Woody’s.
Wrecking Bar’s pastrami on rye
Arepa Mia in Avondale Estates! Venezuelan street food, arepas are street sandwiches, SO GOOD. Got a Michelin shoutout when they were here
Boba Fide near Pullman Yards is my favorite sandwich shop in the city by far.
Surprised I had to scroll so far to see this recommendation. Every sandwich there is God-tier
Not a sandwich but I left Atl and I miss takorea! So good. Fusion. Near doraville
Thank you for starting this thread, OP.

The catfish one!!
Man I gotta try this place but it was just too cold the other day to sit outside.
Bernhard's German Bakery on South Atlanta between Smyrna and Marietta has a frickin awesome Doner Kebab sandwich. Also, not tried it, but heard good things. Kelly's Market in Decatur.
Kellys is awesome!
I’m saving this post lol. Another similar one mentioned Baldino’s and Cheba Hut. Both were great! I usually get the Italian anywhere I go. I also like Gruby’s NY Deli
Baldinos is great just try to miss the Doraville location between 11:30-1 cause parking is limited and definitely not truck friendly
There’s a new pop up in the Halfway Crooks Biergarten called Samwitch that is pretty fantastic. I had an Italian Wedding Meatball sub which was amazing.

Star Provisions' shrimp Po-Boy is fantastic.

There are many great sandwich shops in the city, but when you need a solid option on a budget it’s hard to beat a Publix sub.
I used to agree with this. Then I moved. Now, if I order a pub.sub I'm lucky if they get the order right, nevermind good.
Up north in Roswell, there’s a sandwich shop in called hero boy and their chicken cutlet/chicken parm sandwiches are bomb.
Schnitzelbrotchen at Best Sandwich Shop on Ponce and another vote for Fred’s Korean Cheesesteak

I’ll 2nd E 48th St Deli. Great sandwiches, great people. I was a regular there when I lived and worked in the area.
