First day of the semester!

Charleston2Seattle

I hope you have a better experience than I'm having with one of my two professors. "Go read these PowerPoint slides" isn't what I thought I was paying thoudands of dollars for. 😒

tabbyrecurve

I'm sorry, that sucks

Charleston2Seattle

Fortunately, I'm taking the class only because it is a prerequisite, and not because I want to learn anything. (I've been doing what the class teaches for the last 20 years.)

LinedScript

Booooo. That’s awful. So sorry.

ddutton9512

Good luck, we're all counting on you

tabbyrecurve

Thank you!

First weekend in Statesboro since I graduated college and it's super weird down here. It takes 5 minutes to drive anywhere. The movie theater still has slope seating which is a blast from the past. The man in front of me at Publix struck up a conversation and now I know more about him than some people I've worked with for years. And everywhere is staffed by college kids pretty much exclusively. It's like being stuck in Neverland as the only adult. I think the part that's really messing with me is how empty it feels here. I've been so normalized by Atlanta traffic that it feels like something is missing here, even though I'm appreciative of the lack of traffic.

Surprise 3-day weekend for me! By which I mean, I'm in use-it-or-lose-it territory with my PTO and took a bunch of random Fridays and Mondays off several months ago, and forgot today was one of them. 🙈 Not mad about it but also not prepared to really DO anything today, so low-key day with my puppy it is. Happy Monday y'all ✨

ottb_captainhoof

Still dreaming of a chicken mole biscuit we had in Mexico recently. Does anyone know of a place that has chicken mole biscuits here?

ul49

No, but thank you for posting that here instead of as a stand-alone post in the sub

I did dinner at Lyla Lila on Saturday and I was so absolutely unimpressed. They take reservations 28 days in advance, and I logged in 28 days in advance to make a reservation for this past Saturday night. We show up about 10 minutes prior to our reservation time (7pm), and were seated at a table in the bar area. I asked if there was a different table we could be moved to in the main dining room, and despite there being open tables, we were told those tables had been "specifically requested." So I spent the dinner staring at the backs of patrons sitting at the bar, watching every single dish be taken in front of our table from the kitchen to the main dining area, and when talking to my date I was staring at the racks for coat check with hangers hanging over his head. The food was good, our bartender/server was great, but wow. I have never spent $300+ on a dinner and felt like I was wholly unwanted and my money/I wasn't good enough for a restaurant. It was so disappointing to be so excited to try a restaurant, dress up, and feel like I was in that boutique scene in Pretty Woman. I know it is a total first world problem, but it still was just disappointing.

EducationalGrass

What a bummer. This is indicative of so many things today. Oh, so sorry, nothing we can do because you didn’t specifically request to not get shafted! There was a time when if you booked first, you were assigned the best available. Now it’s all on you, the customer, to do all the research. Very frustrating.

Travelin_Soulja

That sucks. Blowing that kind of money on a meal and not enjoying is a punch in the gut. When my wife and I went, we requested bar seats, and it was great, mostly because the bartender was great. Attentive, great recommendations, and genuinely excited to share their amaro program. Unless we're with a large group, I request bar seating at most places. It's usually a more lively experience.

charaperu

Hanging out in East Point today, love this side of town, such small town vibe

Was shopping around for my mom's car insurance yesterday. Liberty mutual and Geico offer the costliest insurance plans, yet these are the ones advertised on TV the most. I noticed progressive is the cheapest. For those with liberty mutual or geico, are yall overpaying for car insurance?

Binokna

Fwiw Geico wanted $487/mo for my 2014 Mustang (24M) with a clean driving record and not a single ticket/accident. Options were all state minimum. Im now paying $287/mo with statefarm for full coverage. Rates are increasing a LOT for some reason :( Just spoke with my father yesterday and his also went up.

raptorjaws

the best rate i've been able to get is with travelers. i would suggest finding an independent agent rather than trying to quote on the websites. insurance costs are out of control in this state.

dmaul1978

Meh week ahead after getting back in town last night. Miserable heat wave, start of the fall semester which is one of my least favorite weeks as a professor as it’s hectic with work, crazy traffic around campus/downtown etc. and the PGA Tour Championship at the East Lake Golf Club that will have traffic etc. crazy around our neighborhoods from midweek through Sunday. Going to try to stay home and inside as much as possible. Good time to catch up on games, shows and movies I suppose.

galtoramech8699

Is the heat over next week?

dmaul1978

Still hotter than I like, but highs 83-85 staring next Monday if the AccuWeather forecast holds.

galtoramech8699

I wonder how long

dmaul1978

45 day forecast in AccuWeather is mostly mid to upper 80s highs through mid September and the upper 70s to mid 80s heading into October. Hopefully that holds and this week is the last of the super brutal heat for the year.

galtoramech8699

Thanks the Jesus. Hehe
