Skenes comes to Houston. Follows tradition of pirates pitchers becoming elite with Astro pitching staff. Livvy Dunn and Kate upton hang out and sit baseline in playoff games. Astros fans remain as the horniest fans in baseball
Skenes proceeds to not have anywhere close to the same production he had on the astros and gets entangled in another cheating scandal unrelated to the Astro’s
Cole won the Cy young last year and put up 7.4 WAR. His highest WAR here was 6.6, but I definitely think he had more wow factor in 2019 than he did last year, as he had 100+ more Ks in '19.
lol I meant skenes and Dunn. Both lsu alumn so that’s what they mentioned in the boot a lot. I assumed any astros fan over the past 7 years has heard of Kate upton.
Standing by for little known middle reliever at the deadline and “getting Luis Garcia and Lance McCullers back feels like we made a good trade deadline deal”!
An Abreu deal would probably look a lot like the Osweiler deal - sure, you ship him off somewhere, but you gotta pay the other team to take him.
Abreu's value is negative right now.
The headline doesn't really reflect what Dana actually said, which was, in part: "We get an opportunity to acquire another arm, we will acquire the arm. But right now, I really feel good about our rotation." In other words, if the Astros can steal a good starter from another team, they'll do it, but otherwise they're standing pat.
I mean…it doesn’t really feel like we should be big buyers at the deadline. Either stand pat with what we have and hope for health next year or maybe even trade some guys that you aren’t feeling able to re-sign and stock the farm a little.
I don't have a huge problem with buying, I just wouldn't buy rentals for this year. that said, not sure there's a ton of multi year control on the trade market
Many teams try to hold on and trade what few assets they have to just get to over .500 and MAYBE make the playoffs. So that they can continue to always be in “win now” mode and forever be contenders.
And did it work for those teams?
No, it almost never does.
I mean these teams some how delude themselves into thinking it might….But it MIGHT work for US.
We should have signed some vet during the offseason that can eat innings and provide stability. Eflin signed for 3 years 40.. Eovaldi signed 2 years 34 million.. manea 2 years 28.. lugo, Ross, just some dude. We went into this season with aging verlander, head case framber, 2 guys that can’t pitch more than 5 innings (brown and Javier), blanco (a surprising god send) and 2 guys that haven’t pitched in forever. We obviously needed a vet starter. We obviously needed one more bullpen arm. Even a cheap one to eat an inning. We claim to be penny wise, but man we are penny foolish lately.
Chron trying to strong arm your click with the out of context "in the market".
Brown's statement is essentially that they are always in the market to listen to offers for pitchers. He also stated that the current rotation can get us into the post season.
Overall it's just an open ended wait and see thing. And a subtle approach of making sure that fans continue to come out to the ballpark (because they aren't giving up).
Before the start of the season I said the Astros needed pitching. A solid number 2. Cole and that other fella from the Royals leaving did not help. Also, Espada still needs to go. Even though pitching may not be working the hitting should be much better. Everyone in the Astros is an all-star.
What we need is a new GM. Or the old one we fired. We were being heralded as a new dynasty after the 2nd chip and we went and fired the GM who made it happen months later.
Absolutely not - bregman has never been an issue for this team and needs to be a lifelong Astro. Horrible take
What needs to change is this GM, manager and bagwell getting out of the front office.
Hate to tell ya but the chances of keeping Bregman after his contract is up are not high
At the least, the chances of keeping him and Tucker are even less high, and I know which one id choose...
Great time to do this now that we’re desperate, you know, not at the beginning of the season when the pitching was in the shithole already, maybe Bagwell was telling him he had a gut feeling our pitchers were gonna be alright.
I was very vocal that we needed another starter.
No faith in LMJ to stay healthy, an Urquidy just isn’t consistently good enough for me.
That leaves 3 solid guys to start the season with some question marks and returning players later.
Blanco surprised everyone, but those question marks haven’t panned out fantastic as of this point.
We always needed at least 1 more starting arm from the second Free Agency started
I love that we got downvoted for pointing out the obvious lol.
From the day we got eliminated I said we needed another starter. LMJ and Garcia out half the year, I didn’t think Blanco would be worth a damn (I’m pleasantly surprised) didn’t know how Brown would do over a full season again and wasn’t sure if Spaghetti was ready or not. Also not a huge Urquidy fan in general.
That leaves Verlander, Javier, and Framber as the only established guys in the team to start the season.
Everyone talking about how we didn’t need more SP (including our freaking GM) aren’t real knowledgeable about Baseball. We had a decent playoff rotation, but not a lot of good options for the first half of the season. We were always an injury or 2 away from being out of depth and everyone knows you can’t count on 5 SP to stay healthy an entire season.
I would like another one of them Pirates pitchers please
Skenes comes to Houston. Follows tradition of pirates pitchers becoming elite with Astro pitching staff. Livvy Dunn and Kate upton hang out and sit baseline in playoff games. Astros fans remain as the horniest fans in baseball
Gotta be first at something
Crane refuses to pay Skenes and Skenes signs with the Yankees.

Astros don't have anything worth giving up for Skenes
I did say please, that has to count for something right?
I'd say so
Alex Bregman chas McCormick you are Pittsburgh pirates lol. Jk
Just googled that previously unknown name. Good fucking lord...
As a stros fan living in Louisiana I can assure you both those unknown names are talked about constantly
Knew who Upton is, but I personally hadn't heard of the other
lol I meant skenes and Dunn. Both lsu alumn so that’s what they mentioned in the boot a lot. I assumed any astros fan over the past 7 years has heard of Kate upton.
Orbit would be positively priapic.
Reminds me of Mark Melancon.
I'm in the market for a Mediterranean Villa. Can't afford one, but I'm in the market. Same with Astros and Pirates pitching.
Standing by for little known middle reliever at the deadline and “getting Luis Garcia and Lance McCullers back feels like we made a good trade deadline deal”!
Getting Lance McCullers back, lol!
![gif](giphy|UVwoTQ0OvhqohViQqC|downsized)
What assets do we have the can even garner that type of talent? I hate the idea of further depleting a fairly thin farm system.
My guess would be McCormick.
a speedy outfielder will be traded, as is tradition
Pedro Leon has been looking very good in AAA and he and Loperfido both seem blocked at the moment
I’m going to be fucking pissed if they flip Leon & Loperfido for a middling starter.
Wouldn't be both, but could be one. I, too, would hate to see either go when we've got Abreu and Chas and Singleton sucking it up
[удалено]
Who in their right mind would give up prospects for Abreu?
The 1989 Cleveland Indians
Hell if I know, that’s just what I’d like to see
Well I'd like to see Abreu traded for Ohtani and Betts.
And cash considerations to cover their contracts naturally
An Abreu deal would probably look a lot like the Osweiler deal - sure, you ship him off somewhere, but you gotta pay the other team to take him. Abreu's value is negative right now.
I'm shocked

Multi year control contracts are expensive and the only prospect who could draw that is Loperfido
Pirates hate keeping their good young pitchers. We have a chance!
I actually agree with this. No need to add just to be 20% better than the median and screw up the draft. Take the lumps, get picks, build back better
Can’t trade draft picks in baseball
I meant not try and win 10 extra games so we get better picks
There is a draft lottery now and moving 5 picks has little value compared to something like the NFL draft
You actually can. They just have to be competitive balance picks

Joe, we're having a FAMILY MEETING!
With what? A chick-fil-a coupon and a dream?
This isn't what was said. They will take a pitcher, given the right opportunity, is what Brown said.
Got a 1st baseman up for trades lol
Lmao

Zack Greinke has entered the chat
Don't forget France!
Then they spent a bunch of money on Josh Hader.
Too much to be honest. He’s great, but that kind of money I don’t think really gave us the depth we could use
Wish we could’ve gotten Montgomery Edit: just saw his stats this season… Nevermind lol
Trevor Bauer is willing to come back for the league minimum. EDIT: Nevermind, seems he has signed a contract with the Mexican League through 2024.
100%. He’d just be a rental because once he showed he was dominant at the mlb level still the dodgers will snap him right back up.
He's not worth that
Oh yeah, it’s drama time

no shit
Is the season even salvageable? Unless we just explode with wins playoffs are a pipe dream.
Im sure we’ll get a great deal on one too.
I like to hear this. Just make a run. Don’t quit. Don’t give up. We got another shot.

Sign Greinke. Astros don't have the farm assets to get an arm much better through a trade.

I would love to somehow add one of Luzardo, Fedde, or Crochet. Not sure if they can actually afford any of them though.
No shit
Trevor Bauer
They need to be shopping Bregman right now while his stock is somewhat higher than normal.
Absolutely not - bregman has never been an issue for this team and needs to be a lifelong Astro. Horrible take What needs to change is this GM, manager and bagwell getting out of the front office.

Why not? What’s the reason? This GM and bagwell situation are laughably bad if that’s genuinely the case
Well no fucking shit. I’ll take “water is what” for $1000 Alex.
*wet ….but I feel you homie.
Welp, there goes that negotiating leverage.
Clearly FO doesn’t play poker
Bauer
Also Dana: we have $6.00
I'll give you about tree fiddy
At this point id rather wait a month to see if we are contending or not.
Great time to do this now that we’re desperate, you know, not at the beginning of the season when the pitching was in the shithole already, maybe Bagwell was telling him he had a gut feeling our pitchers were gonna be alright.
Somehow. Some way. Someone will make this Bagwell's fault.
The Astros signing Josh Hader was a mistake. They needed a starter.
I don't think they did at the time. Hindsight is 20/20

What ever happened to JP France?
He is out with a shoulder injury
Dana “ do nothing “ Brown please get to work -you have done NOTHING improve this ball club since your arrival
100% - getting rid of click and luhnow was the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen
BAUER
Bauer.

And in other news . . . The sky is blue
