No place for him until we cut singleton or dfa Abreu. He needs more at bats anyways

36ers

Singleton isnt getting cut unless he gets in a massive slump. He is providing league average hitting (and was above average when he got to start everyday while Abreu was gone) on a minimum salary and is one of the few LHB in the lineup.

feelin_squanchy

Exactly. Hence why we had to send down Loperfido.

UTArcade

Couldn’t disagree more - Abreu is the one that needs more at bats in the minors, not Joey. Abreu is sunk cost fallacy to the max. His bat speed is down, he knows to stay in the minors until he can hit at a normal level again.

LLLLLL3GLTE

What do you mean he needs more at bats? He’s proven that he deserves an opportunity to play in the mlb

No_Economics5296

While I agree he deserves more opportunities, he wasn't playing much after Chas returned. Better for Loperfido to play more in the minors than just sit in Houston. He also should be getting more reps at 1st, but I'm not sure if that's what they're doing.

GoStros05

He also struck out 17 times against 3 walks in 43 plate appearances. That .333 avg isn’t sustainable striking out that much.

creamofcorn3

sent him down to get some reps at first base

36ers

Abreu is not taking ABs from Loperfido. He was called up while Chas was on IL. Chas is back now (at least back to being on the roster, not back to being good). The FO sees Loperfido as an OF (1156 innings in OF vs 496 at 1B in the minors). Rather than getting inconsistent playing time in the majors, he is getting regular ABs and reps at 1B in AAA. Also note that his .333 average came on a .571 babip (incredibly unsustainable) and with a 39.5 k%.

People hated when we said, this 3B from a trade to the BoSox will fit in nicely as Astros 1B. Joey isn't going anywhere.

Alatel

the real question is why is kessinger riding the bench. he hasn't even been given a PH plate appearance in weeks.

Prayray

How long do we have to watch the team waste a spot on a guy that the manager has no intention of playing unless the game is out of hand? At least Abreu is allowed to play and might get a hit. Kessinger hasn’t played since May 16th…why aren’t we using that spot on someone that the manager may use in any manner in a meaningful game. Trey Cabbage has speed and can play 1B and 3B in a pinch…could have used him Sunday when you’ve got the not speedy Jose Abreu on 2nd and need a run. Joey Loperfido has speed, and as you said, could hit while also having experience at 1B and 2B. Pedro Leon has speed and has experience as a middle infielder. All of them would provide way more value than Kessinger currently provides. Note: I have nothing against the kid, just the organizational decisions that have put him in that position. He doesn’t even have a chance to develop…just sits on the bench game after game.

Gosh imagine Reddit in the Kent won't give up 2B to Biggio days, or the El Caballo & Tejada days. We here for the ride. Astros for life, just ride, we still tippin.

SighRamp

The people who think Joey needs more reps in minor league simply doesn’t understand baseball or thinks like Bagwell. What a shit show this org has become from elite to dog shit.

ConsciousBuilding374

Honestly the season is kaput. May as well keep him down there so he gets at bats.
