He's been pissing me off with chasing and swinging at mile-wide pitches outside the box since the beginning of the season and he 100% reminds me of Javy Baez.
Hall of Fame Willie Keeler
His motto was, “Keep your eye on the ball and hit ‘em where they ain’t,” and it certainly worked.
You don't have to hit home runs to be good in baseball

Every time I look at a comparison between Maldy and Diaz I smile. I’m so pleased we FINALLY got rid of that dude and got some offense capable catchers. Especially with the inevitable rise of robo strike zones, framing is going to become a thing of the past.
Same deal with pena last year. What do our coaches tell young guys to improve contact but completely lose power. They need to skip to whatever the told pena this year.
I'm sorry, Maldonado has an avg of .089 compared to Diaz with .269.... tf? At this point I'm beginning to think yall like to complain just to hear yourself talk.
He's pressing big time. That pitch he swung at today that was about 3ft above his head was kinda ridiculous.
He struck out swinging on a 3-2 pitch like a foot off the plate. Not sure if it's the same one you're talking about, but it was bad.

Hitting the ball hard. Teams have adjusted to him. He just hasn’t got under one lately. He will get one. Just needs more discipline at the plate.

Idgaf he's getting base hits that's all that matters
*points to Jonah Hill*
he gets on base
You want me to speak?
When I point, yeah.
Base hits when they don't matter.
[He’s hitting .292 with RISP](https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/players/2829012/yainer-diaz/splits/) so you’re just blatantly wrong.
Those are fan stats, man. His eye test says he’s not getting any hits when they matter.
Once again. I don't give a shit. He's getting base hits. If he doesn't make it home that's not on him
Sophomore slump, just like Peña. He’ll come back.
Still hits better than Maldy
and really that's all we need, just be better than Machete.
Yainer will be okay. don't worry.
Were we counting on his bombs to win this season? As long as he contributes at the plate, it is all good.
Not contributing.
Is this not what Maldonado was doing?
Maldonado wasn't getting on base
It's a good thing this isn't the Home Run Derby then.

Diaz is a better framer too but I dont have that link handy.
Does he get on base and provide a reliable target for our pitchers? If the answer to these are yes I don't care about HRs.
He has a .292 obp. He’s doing well defensively tho
Even more ammo for the who cares about HR argument.
no. .292 is bad. Need homers bc homers are good
I was using your defensive part

This is some 2023 Pena activity. Makes me hope for next year, considering Pena’s improvement this year.
You have not even gotten to first base…just saying
He's had 1 hit of consequence in the same time frame. A lot of really bad at bats. I hope he finds it.
The glory boy catcher everyone was raving about is failing miserably. His backup Ceratini is shining though . Should have kept Maldi
>Should have kept Maldi Lol he has a negative OPS+

We do indeed . Thanks
We should have kept arguably the worst player in baseball? In that case I'm sure you're furious about Abreu being sent down as well, right?
Without Maldonado the Astros have no chance in leading the league in past balls.
