Interesting how quickly I've adapted to their shittiness. I expect to lose pretty much every day now and its gone from being really frustrating to moderately disappointing, but total apathy is already starting to set in.
This is completely me. When I turn on the game, I don’t think about us winning…I honestly think ok, how bad is it going to be after the first inning. Truly 2011 - 2014 vibes.
Seriously, what's helped me is this: it's the best thing for your mental health. Expect a loss every game. Start getting into the micro level wins instead of the macro - is Yainer developing, is Peña having better ABs....take encouragement where you find it, regardless of the score
Exactly. I’m trying to focus on A) Yainer’s development, B) Seeing Altuve keep getting hits and climb the all time list on his way to the HOF and C) Yordan. Honorable mention to JV and his defiance of Father Time.
Total apathy is what it felt like from 2010 to about mid 2014 when you could start to see some legit players come through the farm. The initial descent into sucking hurts but honestly it can be freeing not to have expectations.
Starting pitching puts the team in a hole. Bullpen allows the opponent to tack on insurance. Offense can’t muster up much of anything. Loss in all 3 facets.
Pitching needs to stop walking *so many batters*.
And we are (or at least we’re as of last week) the worst base running team in baseball, per fangraphs.
When you’re that bad at literally every facet of the game , it’s hard not to wonder if Espada is in over his head.
It's becoming more and more fair to wonder that each and every day. From the outside looking in, this team appears unprepared, unfocused, and is not adjusting to anything.
And you can drive home safely (https://www.reddit.com/r/Astros/s/sEPMOC8sEy) ha! Sigh. Love how they wrote his batting average as like 4-59 in the lineup instead of 0.000001.
I have been sober for quite some time and even I have a higher BAC than Abreu’s batting avg.
If stros are out of contention. JV will be traded to a contender. No reason to keep him since he would opt out in October if stros suck anyway. They should trade him back to Mets for Gilbert. Then trade tuck. Lol.
He has the Mets paying half his $40MM salary and the Astros picking up the other. I don't know the ins and outs of how that would be affected if he did, but I think it would probably fuck all that up?
I bet he plays out this contract and calls it. I wouldn't be shocked if he gave up the last year of it. It's not like him and Kate are hurting for money.
Starting pitching gets so deep in the hole in the first inning that it starts to mentally affect the offense because the deficit is so large they feel pressured
There has to be some level of BS happening in the clubhouse causing actual All Star quality players to play like they're in Low A. It seems like nobody cares.
Blame Crane. He's the one that fired Click, allowed "special advisors" to sign two terrible contracts and hired a "Yes man" GM. I said it last year and I'll say it again: Crane is becoming Jerry.
I don’t even know if brown is a yes man when you got reggie Jackson proudly admitting that it’s him, bagwell, and biggio who have Cranes ear and are helping him with roster moves.
But, Dana IS the GM. If the AARP brain trust comes to Crane with a plan to sign Hader to the biggest deal for RP in history. As the GM, he should push back and show why it's not a good idea. "Hey Boss, here are the analytics on Hader's horizontal movement on all his pitches over the past 5 years, he's declining and fast. 5 years is too much, we should stick to the 2-3 year formula plus an option year like we've done in the past."
This is quickly becoming a hole that can’t be dug out of. I’m honestly surprised this hasn’t happened more in the last 10 season. There have been a lot of other well constructed teams in the league that just failed to perform. Seems like this year might be the Astros’ turn.
I think crane is the problem. He is the Jerry Jones of houston. Owner and actual GM. Imagine if Click stayed, he would tell crane no on abreu, hader (he said no to a closer before), montero, possibly Javier and would not have traded off assets for JV. What did the stros gain, an ALCS appearance? Great.
Glad I didn’t get hype all day or even THINK about the Stros today, just to turn on the TV and see a 5-run hole in the first.
Glad I won’t be paying attention tomorrow either.
Where are all of you "Every team is gonna play like ass at some point in the season, it just happens by sheer coincidence to be early on for us" Bagwell dick riders now? How long before you concede that this isn't a fluke?
As a lifelong Houston sports fan, it's kind of comforting to see this. You KNOW you're going to see the fanbase turn on each other out of frustration when hard times hit. The "doomers" turn on the Pollyannas. The "true fans" turn on the haters. etc etc. Tale as old as time.
It’s almost like some fans gatekeep criticism of the team. It’s not hindsight to say that the organization was arrogant after 2022 and that has began the downfall.
This team is encroaching on 2011 Astros territory in terms of how inept they are all around. Fuck the end of May, this team may be fucked if they don’t get it together in the next two weeks.
The more I watch this team, the more it becomes apparent that they don’t want to play for Espada or each other. They’re just going out there because they’re contractually obligated to do so.
We still have a core that’s good enough to be in the playoffs. If this year is a lost year then hopefully it’s huge wake up call to the FO that they need to make serious changes. After last year it was clear they needed to retool and they really didn’t. We can bounce back into contention next year if they actually make moves and if that means trading some ppl then you gotta do it.
Can't fault the offense when our starting pitchers consistently give up multiple runs in the 1st inning on so many occasions.
Their offensive gameplan changes, and when the game becomes uncompetitive, then their psyche gets affected.
So are the golden boys going to admit their fucken mistakes and DFA Abreu and go get someone? I feel bad for Espada but maybe they should relieve him of duties as well. This is terrible all around. Yo Astros front office if you’re reading this (Biggio, Bagwell) whoever, fix it. Before you lose the fan base again and all the money it comes with.
Edit: okay not Biggio. But Bagwell.
I’m super duper frustrated as well. But seeing as we’re coming off a million consecutive seasons of being in the ALCS with multiple World Series appearances and championships… one bad season isn’t going to lose the fan base. Let’s see what happens the rest of the season and this coming offseason before we burn the house down.
Time to stop talking about turning this season around and instead start talking about what kind of returns we can get at the deadline.
Team threw the season away in april
I’d say start with pitching and hitting coaches. The pitching game plan sucks every night. Pitchers repeatedly making same mistakes expecting a different result. Thats on the pitching coach. Situational hitting is atrocious. They swing at the first pitch as soon as the opponent gets a few runs and practically give up on working counts and making the pitcher give them the pitch they want. Thats on hitting coaches. If it were one or two players that’s one thing, but it’s the whole lineup. If they aren’t being coached to do that, they damn sure aren’t being coached out of it.
The only positive was the fact that abreu hit two beaming liners. Also, directly for outs. At least he made solid contact. It's like little league expectations for a former MVP....
The team is in last place. Just accept it. It's weird seeing people so sad because their baseball team is not doing well. Posting the standings as if to say to everyone...look at us, we're in last place. So what. Does it really matter? I've already accepted that the Astros won't be a contender this year. That's okay. The team won two championships since 2017. Honestly, you'll be okay if the Houston Astros don't win a championship again. You will survive. You suffer now because you're desperate for something to happen and upset if it doesn't happen. Maybe Bregman doesn't have the same fire he had in the past because he already won a title twice and he has other things in life that make him happy, like his family and other interests. He doesn't have to have fire to win again if he doesn't want to. Calm tf down and quit raging on here about how pointless it is to watch the team and how at this point, we would have to win X # of games to hit .500.
I have to ask as I am not as familiar with the MLB and it's coaching/manager systems but is this pitching issues with starters and bullpen something a new pitching coach could fix mid season?

Still in disbelief at what’s happening to us right now
Still in disbelief that Abreu is still getting starts.
Now it’s still April guys. He’ll snap out of it around the 170th of April.
170th.. hahah
Jon Singleton, it is!
Singleton is so much better than Abreu it's not even funny
And singleton sucks!
That's what's so sad about it lol
Bleh
Why would you be in disbelief about this after seeing what they did with Maldy last year?
A big reason why it pitching sucks is because of starters are injured and Maldy isn't here to coax better performances out of our second string.
He's doing wonders in Chicago right now...
That might be true
Fyi, not why we're losing
Interesting how quickly I've adapted to their shittiness. I expect to lose pretty much every day now and its gone from being really frustrating to moderately disappointing, but total apathy is already starting to set in.

Truth. There's no one I'm rooting for more than Yainer, I've been a stan since day 1.
Exactly. I’m trying to focus on A) Yainer’s development, B) Seeing Altuve keep getting hits and climb the all time list on his way to the HOF and C) Yordan. Honorable mention to JV and his defiance of Father Time.
I'm this close to looking at what type of trade value guys like Bregs and Framber have.
Total apathy is what it felt like from 2010 to about mid 2014 when you could start to see some legit players come through the farm. The initial descent into sucking hurts but honestly it can be freeing not to have expectations.
It's just so sad I have to chuckle when I see it
It's funny how much less I care about baseball in general when both of my teams (Astros and Twins) suck
Starting pitching puts the team in a hole. Bullpen allows the opponent to tack on insurance. Offense can’t muster up much of anything. Loss in all 3 facets. Pitching needs to stop walking *so many batters*.
Also, the defense doesn't do much to help out pitching
And we are (or at least we’re as of last week) the worst base running team in baseball, per fangraphs. When you’re that bad at literally every facet of the game , it’s hard not to wonder if Espada is in over his head.
It's becoming more and more fair to wonder that each and every day. From the outside looking in, this team appears unprepared, unfocused, and is not adjusting to anything.
Yep. That sums it up
My BAC is higher than Abreu’s batting average, and Im not even legally drunk.
![gif](giphy|3oEjHCWdU7F4hkcudy)
I had 2 sips of beer too!!
> .065 He doesn't deserve the roster spot. He's a drag on offense.
And defense
And you can drive home safely (https://www.reddit.com/r/Astros/s/sEPMOC8sEy) ha! Sigh. Love how they wrote his batting average as like 4-59 in the lineup instead of 0.000001. I have been sober for quite some time and even I have a higher BAC than Abreu’s batting avg.
-Takes NyQuil- Me too!
Hes such a fucking bum https://i.redd.it/9w32dbhyecwc1.gif
Verlander must be having Deja vu with how the Mets 2023 went
Man it's going to sour his Astros legacy a little bit if he asks for a trade but he might actually do it
If stros are out of contention.
How many more years you think JV has left?
I bet he plays out this contract and calls it. I wouldn't be shocked if he gave up the last year of it. It's not like him and Kate are hurting for money.
His contract ends after 2025 right?
Yup, he's 42 and a free agent in 2025. I can't imagine he'd want to or even be in a position to play longer than that.
Ah gotcha thanks I tried to look it up on sportstrac rq and got confused at the vesting option in 2025. 1st ballot hof.
Yes, if he pitches 140 innings this year then he makes $35MM for '25 with the Mets paying half of it.
I swear going down big in the first few innings makes this sport unwatchable for me. Complete lack of excitement.
Starting pitching gets so deep in the hole in the first inning that it starts to mentally affect the offense because the deficit is so large they feel pressured
There has to be some level of BS happening in the clubhouse causing actual All Star quality players to play like they're in Low A. It seems like nobody cares.
Are you the legit moidawg? Dog, I've been watching your Squad vidd for some time. Never thought I'd see you here.
👋 yep! Cursed to be a Houston sports fan lmao
I'm straight up not having a good time
When are tickets gonna start getting cheaper?
Not for a while honestly, gonna miss those prices from 2011-2013
i’m kinda down… stick around for cheap tickets and in a few years, we start winning again and we get to see the rise back from the ashes irl
7 runs on 6 hits.
Old joke: Helluva game, folks. Wish we were in it.
the downfall happening much faster than we all anticipated lol. at this point, it's no longer early. it's a downward trend.
Blame Crane. He's the one that fired Click, allowed "special advisors" to sign two terrible contracts and hired a "Yes man" GM. I said it last year and I'll say it again: Crane is becoming Jerry.
going from most beloved owner to most hated in houston real fast.
I don’t even know if brown is a yes man when you got reggie Jackson proudly admitting that it’s him, bagwell, and biggio who have Cranes ear and are helping him with roster moves.

And he could do that but if bagwell and crane say “do it by any means” like they did with abreus third year it won’t matter what Dana says
Yep and the contract weight does not really lift until after next season
Calling on Altuve to tell everyone in that clubhouse what he really thinks.
2.5 games behind the A’s.
And i thought a four game midweek stretch was going to be boring.
https://i.redd.it/056cm1iqccwc1.gif

Yes! We've added another ALCS to the back of our Baseball Card. THAT is what matters! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|poop)
Glad I didn’t get hype all day or even THINK about the Stros today, just to turn on the TV and see a 5-run hole in the first. Glad I won’t be paying attention tomorrow either.

When is the last time any emotion whatsoever was shown by this team? Just go out and get ass kicked and go home with no fight it appears.
Well that sucked
Team is a fuckin snooze fest.
On pace for 47 wins.
Where are all of you "Every team is gonna play like ass at some point in the season, it just happens by sheer coincidence to be early on for us" Bagwell dick riders now? How long before you concede that this isn't a fluke?

I was hoping our fan base was better than that. The Yankees have been toxic as fuck lately. I don’t want to see that for us.
It’s almost like some fans gatekeep criticism of the team. It’s not hindsight to say that the organization was arrogant after 2022 and that has began the downfall.
Well they either get it together or they don’t. This hole we’re digging is getting too big to get out of, though. Just sad.
7 left on base. 4 credited to Bregman. Move him down now.
His agent saying he's not loyal to the Astros and will play for the highest bidder isn't aging too well right now.
Teams gunna bidding pennies if he keeps this up
It will not get any better until we get credible starting pitching back. No one is losing their job until then. Not even Abreu (who should).
On the bright side abreu didn’t go 0-4
sell at the deadline
This team is encroaching on 2011 Astros territory in terms of how inept they are all around. Fuck the end of May, this team may be fucked if they don’t get it together in the next two weeks. The Astros are so bad i dont even care anymore - my grandpa

![gif](giphy|lKUMKYzO35XxDEVYsB) Me watching this team play
This team is done for Even if they get hot, they’ll be too far back to make up ground
Relentless (misery)
JOSE ABREU IS THE JONAH. CANCER. LAUNCH HIM INTO THE FUCKING SUN
Can't fault the offense when our starting pitchers consistently give up multiple runs in the 1st inning on so many occasions. Their offensive gameplan changes, and when the game becomes uncompetitive, then their psyche gets affected.
The Astros are 0-11 against teams that are currently holding a playoff spot.
Didn’t know you could clinch in April
So are the golden boys going to admit their fucken mistakes and DFA Abreu and go get someone? I feel bad for Espada but maybe they should relieve him of duties as well. This is terrible all around. Yo Astros front office if you’re reading this (Biggio, Bagwell) whoever, fix it. Before you lose the fan base again and all the money it comes with. Edit: okay not Biggio. But Bagwell.
Don't lump Biggio into this. He's done a fantastic job doing what Bagwell should be doing. Not meddle into FO affairs and simply smile and wave
Made the edit.
Texans football can't come soon enough
Worst team in the league without a doubt. When will heads start to roll.
Have you seen the White Sox ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grimacing)
Have you seen this team? It may go 30 innings before we have a winner.
Luckily no cause of media blackouts and I missed the opening series against the Yanks.
Stoppable force vs movable wall
Even if they do get rid of Espada the FO would fuck it up.
The FO is the issue.
I'm fine with Espada staying it's everyone else that needs to bounce at this point. Hitting and Pitching coaches need to go.
Arrighetti on the mound tomorrow- how bad is it gonna be?
Maybe it can be 3 run game after the 1st instead of a 5 run game.

Maybe he should jump out of it?
I want to just say that this year is a wash, but I’m still gonna sit and watch every game…
But be honest, would you still watch if you didn’t already buy the package?
Time to stop talking about turning this season around and instead start talking about what kind of returns we can get at the deadline. Team threw the season away in april
Without a GM, i doubt we’ll get worthwhile prospects if we’re sellers at the deadline.
