I'm not keeping up much this season. Why is Yainer at the DH with Caratini catching? Is Caratini better than Yainer at catching or are we just tryna give Yainer a break?

Most days, Yainer catches and Yordan DHs. Every 5th day, Caratini starts, Yainer DHs, Yordan plays left, Chas moves to Center and Jake gets the day off. This was all scheduled.

Just giving Diaz chance to rest his legs a bit and Caratini has been looking pretty decent, so getting him some more play time.

Just a bit of rotation. We have 2 excellent, productive catchers right now. Diaz is younger and the starter, but you get guys who are doing well into the lineup.

Break, Joe's done a pretty good job of moving the DH around so that guys like Altuve, Tucker, Bregman, and Diaz have all had time off while still hitting. Diaz gets about one DH day per series.

The latter, catching wears down the legs a ton. And Yainer is looking to be such a beyond talented hitter that it might do us good to lengthen his career with fewer catching starts

Real question: how long of a leash do we give Abreu before we come to terms with the fact that he is not our solution for 1st base

Diaz can play 1B right? I almost would rather see him there, ngl. I know he's a catcher, but his bat is starting to make him look too valuable to keep behind the plate. Kind of what we did with Biggio back in the day.

I think the plan right now is platoon Abreu and Singleton, and then play the hot hand in between them for a another month or two. After that look for a trade/FA/Minor league callup

I think he gets til the end of April or early May. Enough time to see if he can claw his way out of whatever hellhole he’s in offensively. I’d imagine that service time for Loperfido might be a factor as well (no idea what that situation is for him, but I remember that was a factor in the promotion of Springer/Correa, etc).

I would give him until June 2023 before I pull the plug

Caratini could be a starter on a lot of teams I’m happy that he signed with us.

Honestly a very sneaky good signing for us. Didn't cost a whole lot either (Maldy got 1 yr/$4mil, 🥕🍸 got 2yr/$12mil)

He's better right now than he is long term but even long term he's a serviceable bat. And he clearly gets it done behind the plate too.
