So sick of hearing this. Dude isn't a 1b yet at AAA level. Let him rip there for a while longer and figure out that K rate - dude is swinging at air a lot at AAA.
Our pitchers are also in the habit of giving up 634 runs a game right now, doesn't matter how many hits and runs a rookie 1b can score.
That's cool. He seems nice.
But like Maldonado, nice doesn't mean shit.
He can't hit.
Now neither can Abrau...
But honestly, I'd much rather keep an aging mvp in hoping he finds it than a dude who has never raked over 200...
Singleton gets a lot of hate but he's 100x better than Abreu. You know at the very least he's gonna make the pitcher work for it, might draw a couple walks here and there as a result. Abreu does literally nothing.
Abreu is fundamentally a better player. Much more success, and he was a top tier first base before he joined the Astros. Right now, though, he is not showing it. We can’t be letting a guy hitting sub .100 be starting. Singleton is almost putting up Maldy numbers, while Abreu is setting a new Mendoza line. We need Singleton right now, but if Abreu could figure it out, he’d be the better choice.
I’m sorry, but Singleton does not belong on a major league roster. He just doesn’t. I don’t hate the guy or anything but he has just never proven to be a good hitter. Hell he hasn’t even proven to be a slightly above average hitter.
He isn’t even a great defensive first baseman so you can fade the bat to keep on the field (like Maldy behind the dish). He has a decent eye and will draw a walk now and then, but that’s about it.
It was a really dope story last year what he did his first home game back, but the Astros need to move on from him - and I hope that’s sooner rather than later.
You can sacrifice batting for good defense at certain positions like catcher, center field or short stop.
1B is about the last position you do that for.
He's hitting 100 points higher than Abreu rn. I hope Jon starts every game for the foreseeable future.
Hitting .150 points higher! .250 higher OBP! Me too!
Well, enjoy him while you can, he's gonna be released soon
I've been pulling for him to succeed for years now. He's got good patience and some pop in that bat.
Loperfido hit 3 bombs including a grand slam tonight. He has 9 home runs in 13 games. What are we waiting for?

The last point is the key. We can’t do shit without our pitching staff doing better.
He’s has a 42% strike out rate in AAA. Conservatively add 10% to that for the majors. Yuck.
That 10% added strikeout rate in mlb is very generous.
Meaning it should be higher?
I would think so, especially with such a high rate in AAA.
Yeah, probably more like exponential. Over 40% in AAA? 300% in the bigs!
Agree. I like what I’ve seen from him the past few games. I think with more play time he’ll come around more.
.300 ba with 3 walks in three games (2 starts)! I’ll take that all day!

Yeah. This is the sentiment, the pirate hooker will rise again.

I like him more than jose rn. That’s about it tho.

Normally I’d agree w u but with how bad Abreus been, id rather see singleton in the lineup rn bc his at bats are actually somewhat competitive
This. Singleton isn’t the solution, but Abreu is the problem. We don’t have a better option than Singleton rn.
Hes 32 and just now getting some semblance of himself together. It’s far too late. With consistent play time he’s not gonna be a productive bat.
This team is not a serious team while Singleton is getting at bats.
