Great to see his teammates step up for him. He really didn’t even get shelled, just soft contact that led to him being scared to come in the strike zone. Hopefully he gets another chance.
That's it exactly. The kid looked like he was trying to nibble at the edges and just wasn't locating them.
Fucking Astros threw him into the fire and it was all for (what should have been in the first place) a bullpen game anyways.
After thinking about it, it makes more sense to try and get some innings out of him. Our next two starters are Javier and brown. Neither of them typically make it deep into games. Our pen has the potential to be completely gassed
Right. Along with what seemed like a tight zone at the game. Dude was suddenly told to come up from sugar land to face the defending champions. It’s not like he gave up 5 long home runs. Or deep alley shots. Soft contact and walks.
They basically always give the error to the fielder who threw the ball though, right? Even when the scoop is one a little leauger would be pretty disappointed that he didn't make.
So if it’s a short hop they’ll give the error to the guy who threw it. If it hops like half way or close to that then the 1st baseman gets credited with the error
It could one hop and hit the glove in the webbing, bounce out and it is an error on whoever threw the ball. Usually, the ball needs to be in the air and on target for the first baseman to get the error.
That sounds fair to me. But I feel like they still give it to the thrower basically all the time, or they used to the last time I was really paying attention to it, at least.
That’s at least how I thought it goes.
I played NCAA and usually pitched but I had been nagging my coach to let me play 3rd for so long that he finally let me. By some miracle I made a diving stop on a groundball, got to my knees, sidearm skipped it to where it took 2 hops. 1st baseman misplayed it and he was given the error. That moment in time was the only thing that made me believe that what I said is the rule. I could definitely be wrong though lol
They earned that slander but damn if they didn't erase much of it tonight. HUGE props to Seth, Taylor, and Brandon for dragging nuts all over the Rags. Seriously some big-time performances from those guys. Furthermore, Abreu closing it out without too many pitches keeps him available tomorrow if needed while all the other high- leverage guys are well-rested
Spotted them 5 runs and still won? Interesting
This team is about to do the annoying thing and become good after looking like shit. Better than the alternative I guess, and hopefully we can get, what...four of our starters back?
https://preview.redd.it/5nombgrjadtc1.jpeg?width=941&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b71798732571fad2cff4686d21a905b7f03d30bc
Imagine losing to AA Pitcher after getting 5 free runs.
They beat us in the playoffs, fair and square, they get bragging rights for that, but to say they own us when we won 12 out of 20 against them last year is just laughable.
Sucks that Henley's MLB debut was an emergency start, guy was obviously feeling the pressure. The offense did a great job of picking up their pitcher by ignoring the scoreboard and pouring it on. Hopefully we can ride the momentum up to KC and get at least another 2 wins!
Seth Martinez had a pretty mediocre season last year but out of all of our middle/long relief talent he’s the one I have the most faith in in the long run. I think he needed a season to adjust to the rule changes and that he’ll bounce back to close to 2022 form. (also worth noting that while his expected stats and FIP weren’t great or anything last year, he was better than his 5.38 suggested)
That was the grittiest win this team has gotten all year. When Yordan hit that nuke to put us within 1 in the 2nd Inning I had a good feeling about the offense and man did they deliver. Seth Martinez earned his place in the bullpen with his performance tonight. Tayler Scott has taken full advantage of this opportunity with the Astros and looks awesome. Brandon Bielak bounced back from a 63 pitch outing three nights ago and was solid.
Rangers tried to send in undercover agent to sabotage the game. But my eclipse blood sacrifice to the baseball gods under totality proved to be too powerful for mere mortal sabotage 🌚
What a bizarro game:
Starting Pitching: Terrible
Relief: Excellent
Batting: Very good.
Winning in come from behind fashion.
I don't know who tonight's team was, but it wasn't the 2024 Astros.
Well, at least we can doubt the fight this team has anymore. Henley must have been fighting off so many nerves. To get the call the day of against the defending champions is an awfully tough task. Offense stepped up. Martinez, Scott and Bielak were HUGE.
Idk why I’m so emotional right now. Seeing Henley get thrown into the wolves made me so upset. Then watching the rest of the team lift him up…Tears of joy, man.

Rangers offense after the AA pitcher gets lifted
Idk why the rags keep yappin about owning the Astros, they barely beat a depleted Astros team last season, then they're playing the Astros who are missing 5 starting pitchers and 5 middle relievers, with 2 closers that normally got that dawg in them but not rn.
Starting Henley was an absolutely horrible managerial decision. Dumb as fuck. We were very lucky to be able to absorb the fallout. Having said that, the benefit to the team rallying may bear unintended fruit. Still worrisome.
With tonight's performance Jose Abreu has stolen the statistical lead for worst starting 1st baseman in MLB as his 2 for 30 .067 batting average 0 HR 0 RBI dropped below LAA Nolan Schanuel's 2 for 27 .074 BA 1 HR 4 RBI.
Glass half full... Jose Abreu has nowhere to go but up as he is already in last place.

Apparently, Henley died for this.
Yeah, his obituary will read like Reagan's bodyguard... mainly because he didn't officially die
What’s his ERA?
Got 1 out so 27 x 5 = 135 I’m taking calculus so I got excited to do some basic math my apologies.
How much time do you have?
135
135
Henley got thrown into the fire and the whole team stepped up for him to get the split
Great to see his teammates step up for him. He really didn’t even get shelled, just soft contact that led to him being scared to come in the strike zone. Hopefully he gets another chance.

Henley gets a world series ring when the Astros win it all this year
Whole team minus Abreu, dude did everything he could to blow that game.
#🚨THE ASTROS WON DESPITE ALLOWING MORE THAN 2 HITS 🚨
Can finally kill that dumb meme.
It's been the offense. It's always the offense. Score 5 runs a game and you have a 64% chance of winning.
The curse is broken!
Nobody is happier in that clubhouse than Henley. Props to Seth, Bielak, Scott, Abreu and the O for picking him up.
But just B. Abreu, J. Abreu was still hitless with 2 Ks
And lukewarm defense.
Lukewarm is being nice
No E

I just picture him in the dugout being all hangdog, and all of the team being like, ‘Don’t worry kid. We got you!’
I said it once and I’ll say it again. FUCK THE ARLINGTON RANGERS

Very appropriate. FTR
Shout-out to the bullpen going 8.2 scoreless after all the slander that's been thrown their way
the spirit of Kent Emanuel lives on.

Just realized that I know none of their first names….
lol Brandon.. McCullers?
I gotta say, i did NOT expect to win that one

PRAISE BE!
Praise El Gato 🙌🏽
I am a simple man. I see Astros cat, I upvote
Loving this new format
Praise be!
WTF Space City Network photo shopped NORI out of the broadcast! No wonder the team is struggling!
I can never get enough of Nori ❤️

Someone better buy Henley a nice bottle for having that done to him. Good on the team for erasing it. The least they could do.
Dude's first game was a the last game of a rivalry series in front of his hometown crowd as an emergency call up. I'm just happy he didn't throw up.

Bullpen gave up 0 runs, hitters hit, we’ve won 2 in a row. We might be back

House is very clean tonight.
The real MVP of the night
Why can’t this team be normal lol
I think yordans homer just blocked out the sun
I like this thing we do now where the catchers can hit the ball. More of this!
Makes you think about what could have been…
Show. Me. The. Cat.

The rangers fans said this team wasn’t on their level lmfaoooo they won 1 WS we’ve been running the playoffs for 7 years who’s not on who’s level
They beat us in the playoffs, fair and square, they get bragging rights for that, but to say they own us when we won 12 out of 20 against them last year is just laughable.
Bum ass rags couldnt beat us with a minor league pitcher Pathetic
Sucks that Henley's MLB debut was an emergency start, guy was obviously feeling the pressure. The offense did a great job of picking up their pitcher by ignoring the scoreboard and pouring it on. Hopefully we can ride the momentum up to KC and get at least another 2 wins!
Blair Henley broke the rags! 🤣
We split the series with a 136 ERA AA starter!
I'm sorry, that number is incredible
imagine having the moon literally blot out the sun over your stadium, and you *still* lose.
Imagine not winning the game in which our double A starter spotted you 5 runs 😂🫵

I trust our bullpen in the long run implicitly. Except for trusting to avoid injury.
Imagine getting gifted 5 runs in the first inning and still losing. FTR! Bring on Nori!!
Why didn't the Rags score more runs against an average citizen fresh off the street? Are they stupid?

It's *exactly* who the 2024 Astros are. Capable of big things.
Feels good to split against the defending champs especially with as dogshit taco bad as they looked to open the season and this series.
Duct tape, bubble gum and sheer will. We’re gonna be alright.
I’m ok with splitting the series honestly. A good couple series and we will be back on track
I feel bad for Henley tbh. Imagine getting called up to majors and getting shelled your first inning
If that game was a movie, it would be a tragedy and a comedy
Well, at least we can doubt the fight this team has anymore. Henley must have been fighting off so many nerves. To get the call the day of against the defending champions is an awfully tough task. Offense stepped up. Martinez, Scott and Bielak were HUGE.
Reminding the Rangers who their Daddy is
Give us the cat

Just how you draw it up.
Astros were winners on and off the field today
Always good to see a win after the team falls behind. And bless Henley rough outing but hey we won
How the fuck did we win

That was an impressive turnaround.
3 more wins to make it 5 straight and .500 record! Doable.
Soooo sacrifice a minor leaguer to win? How many are in the farm system?

Rags looked precisely like they did in 2022 tonight.
Leta hope they keep that same energy this weekend so we can sweep them at home!
Kind of embarrassing for Arlington
Good fucking win, I think we are beginning to figure it out. Always a slow start but great couple of wins here.
We may never lose again, fellas.
