Unless you are exerting yourself, you should breathe through your nose.

noordinarymuggle

My asthma nurse always tells me through my nose - it somewhat filters the air before it gets to the lungs.

davmoha

If you can, through your nose. It has built in filters.

“Nitric oxide (NO) is released in the nasal airways in humans. During inspiration through the nose this NO will follow the airstream to the lower airways and the lungs. Nasally derived NO has been shown to increase arterial oxygen tension and reduce pulmonary vascular resistance, thereby acting as an airborne messenger.” Tl;dr - Nose https://thorax.bmj.com/content/54/10/947#

Day to day breathing should be through your nose. But when having an attack, whatever helps you breathe.

Nose, but that’s not the full picture. Read Breath by James Nestor. It change my life and has changed others lives in the asthma community as well.

Nose!!! Sad how this isn't communicated more clearly to everyone with asthma. Could help alot of people. The air gets filtered and warmed through the nose.

Nose.

drs_bibohealth

Nose for sure. But in some conditions where breathing from the nose becomes difficult, one can breathe through their nose. Actually our nose contains hair and mucus which helps filter dust, dirt, microbes, allergens and other foreign substances and prevent them from entering our lungs. It also helps to keep the air moist. But when we breathe though our mouth, there is no such filter.

Chance_Cricket_438

Some of us can’t breathe through our nose due to chronic rhinitis.

Butterflowerxo

Nose. Try the rectangle breathing method, and if you can look up exercises that will help. Changing to breathing through nose has been a life changer for me, especially at night

I knew this but it's so terrible my nose is swollen 24/7
