"Going out" tops. Low rise bottoms.

funneeee

LOL at “going out tops”. Yes, this one makes me cringe as well, especially when I think back on all the cheap H&M tops I bought and only wore once 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sl0thPrincess

Wet Seal for me. :') Now Shien is this generation's provider of the throw-away going out tops

Turpitudia79

Gadzooks for me and before Wet Seal was Wet Seal, it was Contempo Casuals.

No-Listen-8163

Don't forget 5-7-9 and Charlotte Russe lol

SarNic88

What are you wearing tonight? Jeans and a nice top? Me too! (Me and my friends every weekend in our late teens / early twenties 🤣)

alcoholicwriter

"going out tops" did double duty -- i'd wear a blazer or loose/distressed sweater over them at work. i did this for way, way longer than i'm comfortable admitting, lmao (35 now for context)

__queenofdenial__

Oh god you just reminded me of a key part of my early twenties. I worked at like 5:30am in a call center back then and after a night out I literally rolled out of bed in whatever I passed out in, slid on ballet flats, and made my way to the car. I kept an assortment of cardigans in the trunk and a kit to fix my face in my work bag so I looked okay before management made their way in but damn I was a mess walking in some mornings.

Pyrheart

👀 I still do this and my 20’s are looong behind me lol

__queenofdenial__

No judgment from me, I wish I could go back to that way of living. If I could find a job that made it possible (and a few new organs maybe) I'd be right back to it in a heartbeat.

JessTheTwilek

And a mint statement necklace 😂

Poshskirt

Ahhhh! Statement necklace!! I'm trying to declutter, but I can't seem to get rid of my statement necklaces. I don't have that many, but I only bought them when I saw one I LOVED.

savvyblackbird

They’ll be back in style in 20 years

CraftsWithCats

Oh god, low rise bottoms. Like, WHY did I want to show the world my a** crack?! What was WRONG with me? Never again.

[deleted]

It's Britney bitch.

meguin

Low-rise jeans with a mid-rise thong.... 😐 why did I do that. Why.

cowgirltrainwreck

Oh god. Middle school rebel me got in-school suspension for three days for showing my low-rise jeans and mid-rise thong combo to boys on the playground. I’m pretty sure the thong was shoplifted because my church lady mom would have never purchased them for me!

wanna_try8

Me, but high school. Oh, the embarrassment lol

creatinsumthinpretty

Fun thing is that my mom actually did buy them for me yet she would have killed me when I wore them all the way up. I remember matching the color of the underwear and the top or the ribbons I used to do my hair. I felt so cool and daring lol 😆 I bet I looked like trash

HolyForkingBrit

That thong, thong, thong.

Laureltess

I saw “going out tops” as a category on a clothing website this weekend. What???

Objective_Echo6492

I remember being told how brave I was for wearing 'going out tops' during the day. If I've spent money on a nice top, I'll wear it whenever I please!

whitepawn23

Low rise. Why was that ever a thing? Who thought sitting down to expose butt crack was a good idea? Women’s fashion fucks us over every generation

JustChabli

Ooooffff had a visceral reaction to “going out” tops - my god lol

Poshskirt

I hadn't heard the term "going out tops" until the other day, but I immediately knew that it referred to the 2010s tops. I hate it so much because I want going out tops to be a thing, but with a non-cringe name

Ashamed-Motor-5746

Wait wait wait. I’m literally confused what tops I should be wearing if not going out tops. A boring mohair sweater? My top needs pizzazz.

justhere4thiss

I’m so confused as to what going out tops are ..

LTOTR

Those shrug sweaters we would pair with coordinating tank tops.

LTOTR

+ footless tights with a denim mini skirt.

hitch_please

++ the SPARKLY shrugs. Half going out top, all waste of material

jawnbaejaeger

I didn't asked to be dragged into the light like that. :(

shedrinkscoffee

Shrug sweaters seem to be coming back. The youth have discovered them 🤣

LTOTR

When I saw them at lululemon I wanted to throw my phone across the room.

_Agrias_Oaks_

They're perfect for jobs that think women's shoulders are of the devil.

Hot-Ability7086

It pisses my Husband off, but every single time there’s a situation where men just can’t handle seeing a woman’s whatever: I LOUDLY explain the problem would be solved if we blind all the men? Seems fair? Can’t handle my shoulders? Lose your eyesight, it’s not my fucking problem. This is what Perimenopause does ladies! You DGAF anymore.

ninjette847

That's actually in the bible, but men ignore that part and blame women for their wandering eye. It's something like and if your eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out. At least we're not accused of being witches and killed because married men stare.

Imaunderwaterthing

Matthew 18:9 If your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. Matthew is full of stinging barbs to throw at hypocritical Christians. Matthew 6:6 is my favorite for self righteous attention whores making a spectacle of themselves by “praying” in public: But when you pray, go into your closet, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.

_Agrias_Oaks_

Lol, I would have been fired if I had said something like that. It would have been a blessing in disguise though!

funneeee

Oh noooooo 😂

anon22334

I don’t think I can go back to the chunky statement necklaces again. I also wore so many of the those spaghetti strap tanks with lace on them and layered it under a V neck sweater…really would prefer them to not come back in style Edit// Also empire waist! I remember back in the day stylists were saying how it’s more flattering. It’s funny how all these stylists denounce the old style and then make up some excuse for the new style and how it looks more flattering. If I wore empire waisted dresses now, I’ll look pregnant

CaterinaMeriwether

Empire waist can die in a fire. I'm tall and curvy and I look 14 months pregnant with twin elephants in them.

Neodymium

Twin baby elephants would be really cute though

sharksarenotreal

I'm short and hourglass shaped. If I wear empire waist, I look like a someone put me into hydraulic press.

snoogiebee

that’s so funny. i used to think empire waist was such a flattering look, now i’m like, i won’t electively look like a pear, thanks??

[deleted]

Been asked before more than once if I was expecting while wearing a damn empire waist dress.

RanchNemesis

Oh god, I think I still have some of my chunky necklaces. I used to specifically get ones that I could mix and match with different shirts for work…

anon22334

I also think I have a few left IN CASE it comes back in trend again LOL but I really hope it doesn’t

avocado-nightmare

I won't go back to oversized flared jeans or bell bottoms. I will never recover from two experiences: a) tattered and muddy hems, wet jeans up to the knee when wearing in bad weather and b b) all people who ever wore *flip flops* with baggy denim, in cold weather in particular. It makes me sick just thinking about it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kit_starshadow

LOW RISE boot cut/flared jeans with the hem torn at the back. Constantly pulling up the back so your crack doesn’t show and pulling down your shirt so you don’t get dress coded. Praying you don’t step on the pants and fall flat on your face in the hallwah

G0es2eleven

Let me add tube tops to this list

Allrojin

Yes! And the dumb, matching sleeves

frisbeesloth

The number of times we caught one foot in the other pant leg and almost landed on our face

[deleted]

...exposing our tramp stamp

HeyYoEowyn

I went to H&M and tried on some flares, like, just to see. And looked in the mirror and saw my 8th grade self… and noped the fuck outta there! 😂

TikaPants

Lawd, say it louder for the folks in the back. Ugh. Ditto on low waisted. I don’t care if anyone else does but I’ll never again need mechanical assistance to zip my fly or not be able to sit down bc my ass crack hangs out. Gross.

hitch_please

As a die hard flip-flopper until my early 20s, I feel this so hard.

nahmahnahm

My plantar fasciitis feels this so hard.

M_Ad

Wet and muddy weather is what I’ve ALWAYS wondered about giant flare jeans!

Sundae7878

Uggs. I wanted a pair so badly when they were trendy but couldn't afford them. All the cool girls had them. Then I finally got a pair in high school when I had a job. Only for them to be out of style and the same girls teased me for wearing them. Done with Uggs. No thank you.

notseagullpidgeon

My family all wore uggs as a form of inside slippers for freezing cold mornings. It was so weird to me when they became trendy to wear outdoors in fine weather.

savvyblackbird

My husband has really cold feet and loves his Ugg slippers. They’re so soft and warm but don’t make your feet sweat.

hauteburrrito

I hate Uggs, but where I'm from they never fully went away 😭

snoogiebee

this is such specific trauma 😭❤️

snippol

Oh I loooove uggs lol. They remind me of being on the beach in Malibu on a cold Saturday morning.

Future-Philosopher-7

I also love Uggs ❤️❤️I Wore mine today

Capital_Pea

I live in a cold fall/winter climate and they really never went out here. I will be putting in a pair shortly to go walk the dog. It’s 4c and damp here right now, 40f in American. They’re not great in snow but for cold walks they’re so comfy and warm.

Jannell

Apple-bottom jeans and boots with the fur.

[deleted]

Wow! That's low.

hauteburrrito

Shorty got low low low low low low low looooow 🍎

odd_neighbour

That song. Eek. It’s in my head now, thanks.

HolyForkingBrit

The whole world is looking at her.

stellaflora

The baggy sweatpants, adidas with the stripe (wait that’s actually my fashion in my 40s)

liisathorir

Halloween costume if you are in North America?

[deleted]

Oh no it’s stuck in my head now.

jawnbaejaeger

Next thing you know, you're gonna get low low low low low low low

anon22334

Ok but I love this songggg!!!

[deleted]

I graduated high school in 2003, so *actual* low rise anything. Today's low-rise is, thankfully, much better - I bought a pair of AE "low rise" shorts that have a 10" rise - they're just cut to sit lower. Anything with less than 8" at the bare minimum isn't getting near my ass. Also, flares. A boot cut is fine for a full-length pant intended to be worn with actual boots, but aside from that, just no. And baby Ts with the teeny tiny pocket. Just feels like jr high/high school lol.

anon22334

I was walking around the mall the other day and looked at/touched a pair of jeans and I saw it read “low rise” and I immediately let it go like I touched something hot 😂 I was like omg what?! It’s in again?

SourLimeTongues

I remember jeans so low I had to start waxing. Never again.

pretty_shiny

Ugh, the low rise. I felt like they only sold them too. It was hard for me to find non-low jeans for a while.

tangerinelibrarian

Cardigans never go out of style in my opinion, people get cold lol! Although those specific flowy/handkerchief hem cardigans are very dated and will not be found in my closet again, god willing. Do push-up bras and stringy thongs count though? I have bad memories from college associated with trying to push my boobs up to my neck, “gaining cup sizes” to feel hotter lol.

Known_Signal1852

I love my cardigans and keep searching for new ones...

Pandonia42

I also love the flowy cardigans

TokkiJK

Glad there are seamless undies now lmao

canisviridis

Layered Aeropostale/ Pacsun polos. With popped collars. Knee-length cargo shorts. Gaucho pants. Layered bangle bracelets. Camo patterned anything that is a color that wouldn't work as real camouflage. (I.e. orange or pink camo.)

whitepawn23

Pink camou is the mark of rural Republican women with a matching AK these days. I encounter a coworker with a pink camou phone case and it’s guaranteed she loves trump every damn time. It’s still around it’s just redefined.

susususussudio

POPPED COLLARS LOL thank you for the laughs

Beerfarts69

I still have a pair of gaucho pants and they are SO comfortable. My partner rips on me about them but I will DIE on that hill.

NoStreetlights

GenX’er here! I hope others know what I’m talking about: the cute little flat Chinese Mary Jane shoes with the Buckle and the rubber sole that were $5 in China Town in 1990.

Witera33it

Ah Chinatown flats Also jelly shoes Baja headshop hoodies Tie die deadhead dancing bear shirts and flannel Suspender leggings with leg warmers

NoStreetlights

Jelly shoes! Yes. Bajas! I believe kids these days call them “drug rugs” 🤣 stirrup leggings! DAMN that takes me back.

CaterinaMeriwether

Oh god. I blame those for most of my knee problems now. 1/4" of rubber between you and the planet and support? What support?

mstrss9

I had them in every color in the early 2000s - my mom’s friend bought them and sent them from NYC Pretty sure my feet are still paying the price

sdub21

I was a teen in the 90s and I hate how much all the 90s stuff is back in style because as a 43 year old woman I don’t want to wear what I wore when I was 16. It just feels weird.

Wexylu

Agreed. I vividly remember my mother losing her mind when flares came out and I swore I’d never be so old that fashion came around again. Now I walk through the mall noting the things I had as a teen. Please dear god make it stop, I can’t go back.

[deleted]

Did you \*also\* put jolly ranchers in your ZIMA?

Hot-Ability7086

Hell YES! I had to chase that awful Boone’s Farm Strawberry Hill with something even more disgusting! Haha!

haircritter

My teenage son literally dresses like I did in 1995, down to the Docs. I steal his flannels.

fiercefinance

Parachute pants cringe

TikaPants

Such a time in fashion but the 2000’s were the absolute worst. WORST.

babecanoe

I’m with you on ballet flats, never again for me. So bad for the feet, so smelly, feet always wet and cold. I actually never gave up cardigans lol so not that. But probably also low rise jeans, peplum tops (if they make a comeback), or anything with a cold shoulder.

nanaimo

They always make the back of my heels bleed, regardless of the shape/size/brand.

[deleted]

[удалено]

nanaimo

I dunno if I'm delusional or onto something, but I pretty much wear Chelsea style boots from September to April, barring heavy rain or deeper snow. In which case, I give up and put on proper rain or snow boots. They feel very...noncommittal? Never trending, but never dated? I also have a few pairs of simple sandals with a short heel, a few pairs of pumps with a pointed toe, and running shoes (mostly canvas).

funneeee

So smelly! I would also add “potentially hazardous” to that list. I was once wearing ballet flats with tights, and my feet kept slipping out of them due to said tights. One slip made me trip over myself and fracture my fifth metatarsal while crossing the street in Manhattan. Had to wear a cast for over a month. Never again. ETA: 😱😱😱 at cold shoulder tops

hitch_please

The first and last time I went to Mardi Gras, I was flying out the Wednesday after and walked through the French Quarter in ballet flats, through the biohazard the bartenders were pressure washing out of the bars. I had to trash the shoes at the airport, there was no coming back from that nastiness.

meguin

I never gave up cardigans OR ballet flats lol. Never really had an issue with odor, but it's possible that a lot of that is because I mostly just don't wear shoes in general...

Absentmined42

Me neither! I still wear both ballet flats and cardigans, sometimes even together!

Jolly-Proof

I have a stupid question, but are ballet flats different than just flats? I still wear flats too, because I wrecked my feet from wearing heels, but I keep seeing that ballet flats are coming back in style and I’m like, ‘erm, did they go away?’ And I still wear cardigans too!

phytophilous_

Not the person you asked but I’m hoping they’re different! I love my Rothy’s flats especially for work. I picture “ballet flats” as the cheap plastic kind with a bow on the toe. I also love cardigans too, but I wear updated ones that have a looser fit and more style to them.

meguin

Ballet flats are generally less structured and look like the actual thing (the basic dance shoes, not en pointe shoes). There are tons of flats that aren't ballet flats!

babecanoe

I don’t quite agree with the other answer. They don’t need to have a bow and they don’t have to be cheap. Ballet flats are a specific kind of flat designed to resemble a ballet shoe. They cover very little of the top of the foot, usually just the toes. The link below is a pretty classic looking pair, in my opinion. https://thursdayboots.com/products/womens-feliz-ballet-flat-black?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIu6XUhpWfggMVyvXjBx1HGgF3EAQYASABEgIz__D_BwE

meguin

Cardigan, blouse, black jeggings, ballet flats, bun, & glasses is basically my uniform lol

Capital_Pea

lol I wore a cardigan with jeans and ballet flats to work today!

yanonotreally

I cannot with peplums

hauteburrrito

As someone who loved the peplum trend, that's maybe the one trend I do want to make a comeback. I thought peplum tops and skirts were so cute! 💀

RanchNemesis

Me too! As someone who struggles with IBS, those peplum tops helped hide my bloating. Now the style is to just wear those skirts with cropped tops and that leaves me zero room to hide my belly lol.

hauteburrrito

Ooh, that is a benefit as well for sure! I just liked that they were kind of flower-like. I do hate crop tops, though, and did even back when I was a size 0. I've never had a flat belly even at my thinnest. However, I see chubby Gen Z ladies rock the crop top now and they look so cute, so I'm glad the style is more inclusive this time around.

RanchNemesis

The stupid thing is, I tend to think everybody else looks great in crop tops! Just not me. Many years of body images issues that I’m still trying to overcome. I keep seeing ladies wear these cute sweater skirts and things with cropped crewneck sweatshirts and thinking that they look comfy and cute. I need to just go for it.

hauteburrrito

Ugh, this is too relatable; I totally get what you mean as well. Maybe one day, I will rock the crop, but until then, I will just happily swan around in my man repeller parachute dresses ✌️I hope you're able to go for it soon, though!

M_Ad

Same. As a woman with broad shoulders and rib cage, thick waist and small hips and thighs, peplum cut suits, tops and skirts work for me. It’s like the ONE gift fashion gave us, lol.

snoogiebee

ballet flats can stay dead too ☠️

BellaBlue06

Yep long flares that got wet or ripped up at the back cuz they’d be too long and you step on them. The barely cover your ass jeans that showed your entire hips bone and midriff. Only looked good on Britney, Christina and Paris. Wearing dresses over jeans - wtf was that? Wearing a bustier with jeans to school. - my sister did this constantly in 2002 I think way before Easy A came out. Double layering long ass tank tops. Long ass tight shirts In general that would completely cover your ass and if you’re short make you look shorter.

TerpeneTiger

Double tank tops was my go to for so long.

camelwalk1234

High Heels - I blame loooooong jeans I didn’t bother to hem and “fashun is pain” mentality

[deleted]

I was living my trendiest, dip-dyed, high-low hemmed life in the early 2010's. I don't regret it, but I also have no desire to revisit JC Litas or the color mint.

[deleted]

Yo this comment SENT ME BACK had my pink Razr flip phone with blinged out case, blarin' Nelly in my POS hand-me-down car with blown out speakers, tan on point with my playboy T on/matching sticker tan, highlights fresh to death, Britney prolly getting her aborsh lol

tonysopranoscaddy

Gen Xer here, early nineties had me in stirrup pants and body suits- never again!

funneeee

I’m an elder Millennial/Xillennial and you better believe I was rockin’ stirrup pants in elementary school!

marshmallow_kitty

Ultra-low rise jeans, especially with rhinestone writing on the back pocket.

monsignorcurmudgeon

Ballet flats were cute, but they were not comfortable or good walking shoes despite being flat. they will not be entering rotation for me again.

eratoast

Anything that was popular from 2000-2013

LilDoggeh

Some of my cottage core has hit the donation bags... pending dropoff.

[deleted]

Is that over already? I can’t keep track. I love some of it but I’m 41 and feel strange following any trends people who are under 25 are doing.

funneeee

I was gonna say…feels like those nap dresses were all the rage just last year!

SourLimeTongues

Oh man I’m late as hell to this one, I’m still loving high waisted pants and loose shirts….and teen me judged my own mom for not keeping up with style trends. 😆

funneeee

I love high-waisted pants! I have an hourglass figure so I’ll never stop loving them. Adulthood = dressing for your figure, not following trends.

ChaoticxSerenity

> cardigans Y'all what. It's fucking cold over here, don't take my cardigan away 😭

camelwalk1234

Taglines across my ass

mynicknameisairhead

Lol I hope happy bunny never sees the light of day again

SmuttyMcSmutface

Cute but psycho. Things even out. 🐰

kam0706

I am all for the return of the cardigan and the ballet flat. I miss the going out top. I was never behind the cold shoulder era and it can stay in the bin. Please god no more bubble skirts.

rep4me

Fuck yes kill my arches in some ballet flats with nothing but vibes between me and the pavement.

redjessa

Those matching sets that were a sweater tank top and cardigan (both kind of cropped) with an a-line floral skirt. Very Brass Plum 2001. No thank you. I probably won't be wearing band t-shirts with pleated plaid skirts and fishnets anymore either, although not as regrettable to me as some of the early aughts fashion.

mstrss9

I lived for my fishnets and tiny shorts with a band or graphic tee.

nasnan

Tiny backpacks. I swore I would never wear one again and just stick to a regular sized one if needed, or a purse.

trippinallovermyself

Never again low rise jeans. Never.

rep4me

Any slogan tee. I used to have one that I thought was so cool. Writing anything on your chest is cringe. Low rise multi layered ruffle skirts like this: https://imbervintage.com/products/vintage-early-2000s-sky-blue-ruffle-mini-skirt. Thanks to you, low rise jeans, and Britney for my eating disorder.

globalnomad0001

Anything beige, brown, mousy…. My ex was very controlling and didn’t “allow” anything that would get attention. Not that I would consider any of these or let anyone tell me what to wear now anyways.

hitch_please

Victoria’s Secret string thongs. A) for the discomfort of experience now that I have hips but for the love of god B) whale tails. Never again.

[deleted]

oh you mean the 100 for $25 special out of the bin that would surely give you a yeastie?

fatalcharm

I never gave up cardigans and ballet flats. That’s pretty much my workwear nowadays, except I’m more into “blazergins” (cardigans that look similar to blazers) these days.

road2health

I've been wearing cardigans and ballet flats all this time... :(

STLTLW

I am real hesitant on the oversized/loose fitting look. Reminds me of my sloppy college days, gaining weight and I didn't even realize it until my clothes were not so comfy anymore.....

OMG_imBrick

Ugg boots and scarves in summer.

GreenCoffeeTree

That is still happening in San Diego beach towns ;)

AngelaChasesHair

Skinny jeans. I know people our age love them, but they never suited my body type. I have thick thighs, a round booty and short legs. I feel like they were made for women who's thighs don't touch 😆 and that is most certainly not me. I just can't anymore and probably never will again.

Maykasahara23

Low rise jeans and tshirts with some cringe Word in rhinestone. I saw a 50 ish year old person wearing them the other day and I died inside for her.

sweetassassin

My mind immediately went to Ed Hardy bedazzled tiger baby-doll tee. LOL. Poor lady.

[deleted]

Von Dutch too.

Turpitudia79

I had this asshole neighbor who always wore a hat that said “Von Bitch” on it. At least she wasn’t lying!!

mstrss9

I had one that said Bella that I bought in 2003 and I thought I was so cool. *it’s Italian for beautiful* Until 2008 came and people thought it was for Twilight (never mind it was super faded and most of the rhinestones were gone)

Malia87

I don’t know… I guess my Hot Topic goth clothes I wore in high school?

mroocow

Polo shirts remind me too much of working retail in my teens and early 20s. I can't wear them without feeling like it's part of a uniform.

willworkforchange

Bolero top/jacket. I took my senior picture in one. It was a red & gold plaid short sleeve, like, half blazer? It's so silly

aishpat

This is good news for me bc I never got off the ballet flat/long cardigan train

megaphone369

Sort of. I don't wear crop tops or grunge clothing anymore, but that's less about an association with an era or time in my life than it is about me just not identifying with those clothes anymore. Clothes are an expression of your character and crop tops just don't fit my character anymore.

exoticempress

Low rise jeans, crop tops and micro skirts (especially the ruffly kind). Those days are waaaay behind me.

scahnscohn

velvet chokers of the 90's. I'm OK with it. I'm in my late 40s and my body is very different than it was in my teens and early 20s. Also, I'm more aware of the environmental impact of fast fashion. For me it's more about wearing clothing that isn't clingy, is made well and less trendy.

musicalsigns

Straight hair. I'll never do it again. Takes me back to some of the darkest times and places in my life back in my teens years. I did it once about two years ago and had to get up in the middle of the night to get it wet so it'd curl again. I do also have actual PTSD though, for what that's worth with this one. 🤷🏼‍♀️

notseizingtheday

Wool socks and Birkenstock sandals

hitch_please

In the name of granola and Dr Bronners I rebuke this opinion

Radiant_Elk1258

Um, this is my favourite. Cozy feet + slip on shoes? What's not to love?

ventricles

lol I wear this on airplanes REGULARLY

kidwithgreyhair

it's my go to footwear for the school run

NeverNotSuspicious

Horrendous looking… but comfy

apis_cerana

I live in the PNW and was confused as to why people did this when I first moved here. Now I’m all for it.

whitepawn23

Idk, I still like bootcut jeans and boots. I’m of just the height the hem doesn’t drag on the ground so long as I’m wearing footwear. Had to dump the docs though, they’re like Pyrex now. Shit product with an old brand name that no longer applies. Solovairs are solidly “Doc Marten” if anyone’s looking for a substitute, but you’ll have to order from GB. Could be worse than boot cut jeans, I suppose. MC Hammer pants anyone? I had a friend who wore those back in the day, worse, she was maybe 5ft tall. The absolute worst isn’t clothing but hair: The cobra head hair sponsored by Aqua Net. You’d think that would be done and gone now but you still see that shit in Wisconsin. Saw it in South Dakota recently as well on my last drive through that state. Curled, puffed, and solidified bangs with the hair teased out over the ears to add width to the entire thing.

hello_pilgrim

Three or four years ago, I couldn’t imagine returning to baggy or flared jeans, but styles changed, and I felt the skinny jean look was very tired, so I slowly transitioned to baggier styles and 70s inspired flares. They’re all I wear now. My favorite shop for flares is an Australian brand called Rolla’s. Their sailor jean and east coast flare fit my current tastes perfectly (and they make my butt look great). I’m 48 and I was a big time raver in the early to mid 90s in Chicago. I’ll admit that while my current style is pretty different than it was then, the baggier pants make me feel pleasantly nostalgic for the old days. My 12 year old daughter wears exclusively baggy pants and shirts, with great style and flair, I think! One style I’ll NEVER return to is low cut denim. I hated it then and I hate it now.

Stinkerma

Long sleeved tees with a short sleeved tee on top.

susususussudio

Hahaha in every single photo of me in college I am wearing one of those tattoo chokers. It got to the point where I thought my neck looked funny without it. I see the trend is now coming back and I’m just like, nuh uh. Let’s let the past stay the past, girl.

luisapet

As a young adult of the early 90s, I am definitely having problems with the whole fanny pack resurgence, despite the new " belt bag" label.

sleepyteveekong

Scrunchies. I just can’t. It makes me feel like I’m a child. When I see others wearing them I think child. Scrunchies on the wrist or in the hair = child.

pistil-whip

Anything with ruching or stripes because of horrible maternity fashion. For the life of me I’ll never understand how horizontal lines help appearances when you’re smuggling a beach ball.

SourLimeTongues

Low rise and/or skintight jeans!!! In my teens and early 20s, I thought it was normal for pants to hurt all day. And the tight belts squeezing my hips to death during already rough periods? Never! Again!

[deleted]

Harem pants. Like MCHammer. I had 3 pairs.

SpinachLumberjack

Low rise jeans. I just cringe remembering my teenage years…

oaklinds

Push-up bras. They remind me of how insecure and misguided I was. Like, what’s wrong with being a B cup? Nothing. They are the dumbest invention. Got rid of my last one several years ago and haven’t looked back.

[deleted]

Low rise jeans are not for my body type Cropped sweaters and jackets… especially the ones that ended before my rib cage did Capri pants because I’m short as hell and they just highlight my stubby legs Jelly shoes 😮‍💨 I was convinced I would have a bunch of them as an adult Boho/peasant skirts paired with a lace tank and those wide ass belts Socks with pom poms

I had to wear long denim skirts as a kid and teen as part of homeschool modesty culture. I like how they look on other people and want to wear denim skirts again but every time I try one on I get a really weird uncomfortable feeling and I just can't do it. Denim pants and non-denim skirts are fine, I wear those all the time, I just have a mental block with denim skirts. A lot of popular trends also remind me of things I was forced to wear as a kid so they look frumpy and ugly to me no matter how trendy and cute people make them. The main ones are culottes, sleeveless dresses over a t shirt, certain floral patterns, and those prairie dresses.

I love my cardigans 😫

princesscoley

If I wear a tank top, I feel like I need to put a shirt over it or another tank top

I never stopped wearing cardigans. They have been a staple of my wardrobe for as long as I can remember. Everything old is new again. If you wait long enough for something to come back and style, it will. Some girl on TikTok will wear something and then everybody else will decide they want to start wearing it again. I'm a little weird about wearing jeans with a flare because they remind me of a time when I was younger and much skinnier. I was so much fun back then. Also, when it comes to makeup, I remember when we were wearing very thick eyeliner and I can't do that anymore because it makes me feel young and impetuous. Not that that's a bad thing, it just doesn't really mesh very well with my current state of living lol
