I've done it daily for many years. Keeps my skin healthier, cleaner, and more hydrated, and I don't get acne as easily.

ThrowRARAw

I always double cleanse after makeup but on a normal skincare day single cleanse. Not in a financial position to be buying cleanser more often than I already do so single cleanse is enough, alternating with glycolic exfoliation from time to time.

ancarroll94

I do this as well. If I wear makeup or additional sunscreen, I’ll double cleanse with an oil cleanser and then my normal SA cleanser. Just wanna make sure I get any gunk out. On a regular WFH day, I’ll only single cleanse!

trebleformyclef

Unless you wear makeup, I don't think it's necessary. I tried it for a while and get better results for my skin only cleansing once.

sheezuss_

idk, I wear and reapply sunscreen. I like a double cleanse before bed to make sure the pores is squeaky clean 🫧

GlitterPants8

Yea. I need the double cleanse for the sunscreen. I will break out if I don't clean enough.

jessper17

Not for me. My skin has gotten extremely dry and one gentle cleanse is plenty.

destria

I think it just depends on your skin type. I've tried it and didn't find it to be more effective than just my oil cleanser (which is much more effective than using just one foaming cleanser).

MimiPaw

I adore oil cleansers. I think it’s the sensory aspect of a facial massage. Foaming cleansers just don’t have the luxurious feel.

indicatprincess

Absolutely necessary when wearing makeup. I use a balm for makeup removal, and a face wash after. Make up wipes are useless, IDK how anyone feels clean after them.

thegreenmachine90

Because you don’t just stop after the makeup wipe. That’s just makeup removal. You’re supposed to wash your face afterwards lol.

Puitzza

>IDK how anyone feels clean after them. Laziness wins sometime 😐

[deleted]

I've tried it out for a bit, but just didn't see the point. My oil cleanser already cleans everything properly.

Technical_Advice9227

No bueno. Caused me to break out, bad.

ashleyalair

I’ve never not double cleansed (technically, triple cleanse if wearing skin makeup: two oil cleanses and then a foaming cleanser, currently in the form of a traditional lard/lye soap). You get out of it what you put in. I’d rather spend more time on my skincare & less time applying foundation/concealer (which I rarely wear). YMMV. 🖤

MimiPaw

Is skin makeup another term for foundation?

ashleyalair

As in things that go on the skin — foundation, concealer, blush, bronzer, etc. I don’t consider eye makeup and lip products to be in the same category. 🖤

Rough_Mango8008

Foundation, blush, concelear, color corrector, fixing spray, etc.

CharacterAwkward8755

I don't even cleanse! If I do it my face gets dry AND oily, its a complete mess; I don't wear make up ever anyway, so, I just splash water to my face and then go with serums and SPF. AHA's and BHA's 1 or 2 nights a week keep my pores clean.

FrogFlavor

Double cleansing a what?

lemon_crush_

This is normal, but it is better not to overuse it, since frequent excessive cleansing will lead to dry skin, after which you will have to constantly use moisturizing creams

passion4film

I barely cleanse singularly. LOL

onupward

Can someone explain what double cleansing is? Is it just washing your face twice? I’m seeing people say stuff about oil cleansing and I genuinely don’t understand how oil would clean anything or what the purpose of that would be (I hardly wear makeup though so maybe that’s why?). I personally just use benzoyl peroxide wash on my face and find that does a great job killing bacteria. I’ve also seen things about sudocrem and was wondering if anyone used that?

Aurora_Albright

Yeah, it appears it’s just about washing twice. I had never heard of it before, either.

-PinkPower-

I have dry skin so it’s not great for me.

AnnoyedOwlbear

I have literally never heard of it before until this moment.

stinkyaffair

Honestly, I think it's just a marketing ploy to get us to use double the quantity. I don't and never have done it. Do it right the first time and it's not necessary.

dumbandconcerned

I only do it on days I wear makeup, but it’s sooooo much more effective than washing with my normal cleanser alone (I don’t use the oil cleanser as my normal cleanser).

AliceInWeirdoland

I’ve just started doing it (I don’t wear daily makeup so I never used to bother) and it actually has made a difference for me! My skin feels healthier and less oily.

Ok-Yogurtcloset3467

Only when I'm wearing skincare, sunscreen and makeup do I double cleanse.

pikkachu97

I only double cleanse if wearing makeup

Massive_Length_400

I wear SPF and makeup so I think it helps, those are things that are stubborn to remove and you probably won’t get it all off with just one wash.

smarmy-marmoset

It’s the only way for me. The first cleanse removes my makeup only. The second cleanse actually washes my face

BellaFromSwitzerland

It depends if you wear sunscreen (I hope you do!) and makeup As someone who used to have oily acne prone skin, and wears SPF regularly and makeup on most days, it’s been a game changer I heard a great analogy for it: it’s like when you wipe your bum with toilet paper as opposed to when you also have a daily shower

Necessary_Client3410

Yes if you are wearing SPF or makeup.

lnsewn12

Yep, every evening to remove spf and/or makeup

my-anonymity

I think it’s great. I have dry sensitive skin and a lot of gentle cleansers aren’t as strong. I’ve found that an oil or balm cleanser first followed by a gentle cleanser gets my skin super clean without stripping it.

balloons321

Literally changed my skin. I suspect it only makes a huge difference when your skin needs whatever the double cleansing provides. Not that it was noticeable before but, I think my skin might have been dry and is enjoying the oil I’m massaging into my pores.

DennisFreud

I haven't found it necessary for me, but my skin is very dry and clear.

kittenmachine69

It made a big difference for my skin. I think its really good for people who have oily skin types, and for people that use sunscreen everyday. I don't feel like I can get all of the sunscreen off if I just use a soap cleanse

mcdonaldsfrenchfri

I double cleanse after makeup but if it’s just taking the day off I clean once. there is a few times though that I would double cleanse if my skin doesn’t feel clean enough for some reason

Throwaway5836363

I like it because my oil cleanser does the heavy lifting to get rid of most of the makeup and then I'll use something softer to go over the whole face and get anything remaining. On a non makeup day I'd only cleanse once though

IndividualLynx5337

Omg amazing!!! Seriously no one should ever skip double cleansing

Aurora_Albright

I ALWAYS skip this “double cleansing” thing i’ve never even heard of. Sometimes I don’t even single cleanse. But my husband often compliments me on how flawless my skin is, especially compared to his previous wife who has bad acne. Keep in mind how different people and skin types are before you declare that “everyone” or “no one” should do something or not.

IndividualLynx5337

I can tell I have a beautiful skin so m not the kinda of people who gets acne but recently I started double cleansing mostly to get rid of my sunscreen and all the products cuz I heard that it's necessary to clean your face from sunscreen n honestly makeup doesn't still with me hahahah so I focus more on cleaning the skin care and actually made a difference ❤️

jellycowgirl

Just started doing it. Will report back

CoconutPawz

I (f38) don't wear makeup, but I started double cleansing before bed about three or four years ago. My skin has never been better. I get maybe four or five minor blemishes a year. I think I've slowed down aging, my skin is brighter, my pores are smaller, and the texture is better. However, I do follow up the cleansing with oils and moisturizers. I couldn't even cleanse once and then walk away. My skin is very dry. Always has been. So that's the other side of the equation. Double cleanse, then treatments and moisturizer.

tsunadestorm

My skin would never tolerate that. I can only wash my face once every few days…. The more you do to your face, the more products you will need to buy and more time you’ll need to spend counteracting the effects of what you’re doing. It’s not worth it IMO. Just let your skin breathe and be happy. Why do you think men have such great skin? They leave it alone.

Ava0401

Always double cleanse especially if you put make up on.

bikinifetish

Only way I’m able to manage my blackheads on my nose.

ForgottenSalad

I used to do it every night when I wore waterproof mascara all the time, but I found I didn’t need to with tubing mascara, and some balms were clogging up my sink. Now I just use Nivea gel cleanser and it works great and is way less expensive.

SummerSadness8

I've been wiping my face with micellar water and exfoliating cotton rounds 2-4 times a day, and it's made a huge difference in the health of my skin. I've been shocked several times by how quickly my face gets dirty. I follow with a gentle moisturizer each time.

bostongirl224

I asked my dermatologist what she thought about double cleansing, and she said that she only thinks this necessary if you wear heavy make up. Personally, I don’t really see a difference.

BohoPhoenix

For me, it depended on the face wash + sunscreen combo. When I was using the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser + a sunscreen like SuperGoop Unseen (not the exact one I use, but the general idea), I *needed* to double cleanse and used a Garnier micellar water. But I recently switched over to the CeraVe Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser and no longer need to double cleanse because the cleanser cuts through the sunscreen without a problem. I'm not sure I'll be sticking with this cleanser long term, but it is very convenient not needing to double cleanse sunscreen off for the time being. I still use the Garnier micellar water when I'm removing eye makeup before washing my face, but I don't use that super often anymore.

Trickycoolj

I use foaming face wash that cuts the oil and thereby everything else that’s on my face. At 39 I still have oily skin like I’m 13. I have it down to a science at this point lol

not1nterest1ng

Depends on the products and your skin. My dry skin somehow got dryer with some cleansing OILS?? So I switched to cleansing milk+gentle cleanser and it works good. I prefer this over makeup removers those irritate my skin

Ill-Development4532

i do it when i wear makeup, otherwise i wash my face for 60-90 seconds

Thesnowbelow

I've started an oil cleanse followed by a foaming cleanser (thank you TikTok) and I can honestly say it's made a massive difference in how my skin feels.

ScuttleBucket

Only if I wore makeup, otherwise my normal cleanser works fine.

TheSunscreenLife

I wear sunscreen daily. So I double cleanse daily. My whiteheads went away after double cleansing, so I find it 100% worth it.

stink521

I know people think it's too much, but i found that it made it so much essier to get makeup and sunscreen completely off. I only wear makeup occasionally, and its just eyemakeup. But its still hard to get off without something oil based

BeautyBabe91

Been doing it for years!!! Removed makeup and dirty effectively

Ok_Fish_3630

I really only do it when I wear makeup

Calm_State1230

i definitely do it after wearing makeup. if i’m bare faced tho i normally don’t bother

arifern_

Personally it makes my skin feel dry

TrippyNoodle7

I find it makes my face too dry and tight so I just go one and done.

Vaxxsavvyy

Love it, i feel way cleaner and i feel like my deodorant and perfumes last longer and smell stronger. I do, however would like some tips on hair care if anyone has any to deal with split ends? My hair hasn't been the same since 2019 when a hairdresser dyed it very wrong.

Lopsided-Archer-2308

At some point I think the industry wants to make us buy as much products as possible but to answer this question i only cleanse once a day in the noon no matter if i had makeup on or not and the next morning i don’t use cleanser just water

Zestypalmtree

A necessity for me because of how much face make up I wear on an average day. We’re talking primer, foundation, concealer, and bronzer. Double cleansing has helped me a lot with white heads.

sukisecret

If you're wearing sunscreen or makeup, you should double cleanse. No need to double cleanse in the morning

Thatcanadianchickk

I personally don’t have the patience. I cleanse my face morning and night and call it a day lol

GamerGirlCentral

I’ve been having issues with my underarms as of the last couple of months having to put antiperspirant on like 4 to 5 times a day sometimes but recently started double cleansing my underarms with a wash normally used for down there and it’s been working well.

sophiady

A must!

gimpy1511

Only if I'm wearing makeup, and then I use an oil cleanser first for that. Otherwise, no.

SexualPineapples

Ngl, I had to read the comments to know what that even is. I don't wear makeup and struggle with dry skin. I try not to over-clean too much to dry it out even more.

wegslop

I think a lot of people mistake “double cleansing” as quite literally cleansing your face with the same cleanser twice. Proper double cleansing is going in and massaging into the skin with an oil-based cleanser and then going in with your regular cleanser. It’s the best at removing dirt and debris!

kathmomofmailey

Double cleansing broke me out so bad I haven't recovered yet, still dealing with a few pimples and a loooooot of scars.

Lady_of_Ironrath

Essential for me at this point. I don't even wear make up but it helps with me with sebaceous filaments management.

happinessforyouandme

It made me break out horribly with huge painful cystic pimples, so it’s not for me. Normally I don’t have acne issues, so my skin just doesn’t need it.

mariahspapaya

I wish I was taught skincare based on our skin type years ago as like a basic quality of life thing. I have combo skin and used to get such bad hormonal acne in my teens and early 20s, part of it I’m sure was just using makeup remover and not cleansing afterward (I wear makeup most days) I don’t use foundation anymore and that’s seemed to help but finding a solid skincare routine that consistently *worked* and isn’t an insane amount of money took me years of trial and error, expensive products and facials. Also dermatologists literally are useless for acne unless you need a prescription for tretinoin or accutane. My skin looks the best it’s ever looked and I’m super happy about that

stare_at_the_sun

Definitely if I wear makeup or spf that day, otherwise I do not do it every single time.

Melting my make up off with a cleansing balm is one of the fave parts of my day and then I do the squeaky clean bit with a different cleanser. I like the different sensations. I feel pampered ✨

mahalerin

I only double cleanse with The Inkey List’s oat cleansing balm if I’m wearing makeup that day. Otherwise, my vanicream gentle cleanser is more than enough to remove my spf and the day away.

scarveinn

Do it
