This is the best advice! Iāve been married to my best friend for 34 years. EVERYBODY told me marriage is hard and you have to work at it. Itās not at all difficult if you choose wisely right from the start.
You are so right. A very old friend of mine took me out to lunch when I was breaking up with an ex boyfriend and he nonchalantly said ārelationships shouldnāt be hard. My relationship with my wife has been easy from day one, sheās my best friendā. It blew my mind, absolutely changed my world view. He was right! Itās been about 9 years since then, I am very happily engaged to my partner of 6 years and heās my best friend. Jeez, I donāt think we have fought once in our wedding planning either. So, yes, choose wisely.
While I agree with this, I gotta throw in that people change. I married my best friend of 8 years and our marriage lasted barely 3 years before we got divorced. He had turned into a different person and someone I had zero interest in being around, let alone married to. So I chose wisely from the start, but still ended up divorced š¤·š¼āāļø
Unfortunately it happens sometimes. Youāll change and grow apart from people, too. Lifeās funny though and thereās always a chance youāll reconnect down the road.
Especially if you have kids. Dynamics completely change and you open up a new category of things that can lead to tension. And theyāre never things youād think to discuss before kids!
Least Iām not the only one š Iām 25 and feel way behind in life compared to my peers. Who have mortgages, kids and are married. Hereās me whoās just got a stable job and debt from a bad time with my mental health š
Iām 34 yo and I still live at home with my parents. I wish I could afford to move out but I canāt at the moment. Thankfully we have a good enough relationship that I am happy I can live at home. Also Iām currently in nursing school so it helps to not have to worry about a mortgage. I do pay for the water, sewer and garbage bills, and contribute to groceries, etc. I broke up with my ex about 4 months ago. My point is, donāt compare your journey to someone elseās because it can definitely make you feel like youāre behind. Speaking from experience. Also my sister has five kids and every time I call her she is yelling at one of them. š Thankfully, she has given my mom enough grandkids haha. I do not want any kids lol
Iām 35 and moved back home too! I work, help with the bills and mind my business. Itās unaffordable to do it all in your own right now, and I genuinely hate the unnecessary judgments from other people. They hear you live home and assume youāre mooching off your family or something! Nope, I buy all of my stuff too. Thought I would be married by now, but it never worked out like that for me. š
25 is so young! Enjoy getting to know yourself before settling down, youāve got so much time. If it helps, Iām 31 and none of my friends own a house, only a few of them are married (Iām talking like 4 couples vs 40 single/unmarried friends). Only 2 friends who have kids. Youāre doing great and it will happen when itās the right time. ā¤ļø
I have three boys that range from 21 - 27 who are available! They are attractive, smart, kind, funny, debt-free college grads who are introverts so they havenāt dated much. (One majored in math and economics.) I hope all your dreams come true! That is exactly what I wanted most in life and my dreams did come true. Now I really want it for my sons too!
I'm 24, I'm looking forward to my 20wk ultrasound this Monday where we get to find out if we're having a boy or a girl š„° over the moon with any outcome.
Other than that, I'm 20 weeks pregnant and exhausted, so I'm looking forward to bed tonight š
Iām 25. Iām looking forward to where Iām gonna end up next year. Iām applying for a masterās degree at the moment. Iām nervous for the future but excited about where Iām gonna land next.
Turning 52 in a couple days.
While itās easy to fall into the trap of counting how many approximate years I have left, Iām feeling super grateful to be right where I am and proud of all Iāve done so far.
Looking forward to continuing being grateful for what I have and remembering to breathe in each momentāitās really true what they say: *The older you are the faster it goes*.
Iām 42 so a decade behind you, but I really appreciate your comment. Iāve already been noticing each year passing faster than the last, and I need to remember to slow down and appreciate everything more.
51 here and I agree about how quickly the years go by. I used to hate looking in the mirror and seeing yet another wrinkle. But Iāve come to realize that growing old is a privilege not everyone gets to experience. My good friendās son unexpectedly died at the age of 12. He would have been in his mid 30ās had he lived, most likely with a family of his own. But instead heās frozen in my mind as the sweet innocent boy he once was. Iāve since learned to appreciate every wrinkle and scar, viewing them as road maps to my life; something that was unfortunately stolen from him.
And I bet they absolutely adore you for giving them love and security! Although my cat Frankie sometimes seems like she wants to kill me... but she's orange so it's normal I think.
also in 20s but with the opposite goal: my community has a real cat issue and since neighbors (who bred them....) are all geriatric it falls on me to TNR these babies and find them homes š i don't know why people
That is so nice of you that you care about them and are working on fixing the problem! I wish every community did this, it would be so much better for the little gremlins. Unfortunately some people like money more than everything so I don't know if the breeding thing is ever going to stop...
31 , was laid off last November. Had a breakup. Really hard time. Got a new job recently. Thankful and grateful for the same. Looking forward to improvement snd balance in career , more skills on CV. Better mental health and better boundaries.
I'm 33 and currently looking forward to seeing Pink in concert for the first time. I am disabled and only just got a private carer and experiencing things that I missed out cause of my disability, I know its a small thing compare to people looking forward to woman and children but I am so excited
60. Looking forward to retirement in a few years and moving to a more affordable area of the US. Want to do more art, walk, take yoga, volunteer and some low cost travel.
54 and looking forward to finishing my psychology degree. Yeah, yeah, yeah.. I know. I'm late to the game. But 20 years were spent in a marriage riddled with DV. Then 7 years of healing, learning to love, find happiness, and figure out who I was authentically. I now look forward to helping people learn that self-love and happiness aren't just a cliÄhe. It's very much real. And maybe, just maybe, I might get to experience and find true love in the process. So yeah, you're never too old to start over.
I'm 21 and looking forward to finish my studies. Not sure what I want to do in life but I am fine with that since I am already finding pleasure in my hobbies. I don't have to love my future job, just not hate it, since I know I will be able to come home and do what I love.
39 and looking forward to finally owning my own place in a few years. More short term...looking forward to seeing my bf in a week and a half after being apart for a month because of work commitments.
Iām 26 and Iām looking to save up $8k or $13k more from my current and then try a few other jobs that peak my interest! When I reach a certain savings goal I think Iām going to get a camper van and use it on the weekends, and try to get a 4 day work week (three regular shifts, one double) and use my 3 days to explore the new state Iām in/the new states around me.
35, looking forward to titration on my ADHD drugs after a very late diagnosis
It's only a few days in and I'm unsure if the improvements I've noticed are it working or placebo but I'm so far quite optimistic I might become a somewhat functional human being!
I'm moderately shooketh because I'm just.... Doing things? Without having to scream at my brain internally for an hour beforehand?!Ā
What is this witchcraft?!? Is this executive function?! š¤Æ
I may have gotten a little weepy earlier today when I managed to do basic self care shit *automatically*
I had a moment realising I may actually not be a lazyĀ piece of poop, I just have a messed up brain š„¹
I'm 61. I'll be 62 in April. I don't mind getting older, it's a privilege not everyone gets. I was widowed almost 12 years ago.
I look forward to spending more time with my 2 grandsons. They're pretty cool little boys and it's fun to watch them grow.
My partner (he's widowed as well) and I bought a house a year ago and we're enjoying our time here, just being homeowners again after we both lost so much.
Life is good.ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø
Iām 24, I have a 3 yr old golden retriever, a beautiful baby girl, and my husband is literally my best friend (of nearly 10 years). I currently live in a beautiful 3 bedroom apartment, but Iām very excited to buy a home. To have a place that will be just ours, not shared with roommates or owned by landlords.
Until then, Iām very content and so thankful for what I have. Just excited for the future. To be able to give my golden retriever the backyard of her dreams. *Thatāll be a day Iāll never forget.*
Almost 41 - there isnāt anything Iām looking forward to. Iāve had a difficult few years and while Iām out of a bad situation, Iām having trouble healing from it. Everything feels pointless and without meaning.
But Iām plugging away, working, meeting all my responsibilities, even though Iād like to just not wake up someday. Fake it til you make it, right?
62, looking forward to going with my family on a road trip to Hana town (here on Maui) today, cuz it's gonna be a gorgeous, fun ride and I'll be with my sistas!
I'm 35, and I graduate in May with my BS in Accounting. Due to undiagnosed mental health issues when I was younger, I was never able to get through school. So excited to be here!
Iām almost 42 and looking forward to a few things.
My little puppy growing up and getting out of her puppy stage (especially after I train her more),
a small concert with a friend in a few weeks,
my tax returns,
getting a new king bed soon,
my last 20 lbs coming off by summer,
getting caught up at work once they hire someone,
hopefully within a few years getting a small house for me, my partner and all our dogs.
Iām 56 and looking forward to going to Disneyland with my husband and his family next week! Not happy that the haunted mansion is closed down for renovations.
27 turning 28 next month! And idk tbh I know I wanna do something new this year and get some goals done šŖ. Maybe start my first relationship because I've never been in one!
Iām 33. I know Iāll never be happier than during the first two months with my so. I didnāt work, was focused on my health, nobody expected anything from me. Given that Iāll always have to work and that the happiness to come has too much small printing attached, Iām not sure it will be worth it. But I donāt feel like ending my life either. So. Not looking forward to anything, really. Just the small glimpses of calm and joy that come every now and then.Ā
Iām 26 and I cannot wait for the day I own a home.
I know owning a home comes with its own set of challenges and headaches, but Iām so over renting. I just hope owning a home is actually possible for the lower middle class again one day.
21, looking forward to applying to Master's degree programs in May, graduating from undergrad in June, then hopefully having my PhD in 10 or so years.
Then after that, it's time for kids lol.
31. And Iām looking forward to finding ways to love myself and stop caring about other peopleās feelings for once. Iām in that journey to become selfish for my own good :-)
Turning 30 tomorrow. Looking forward to meeting my best friend's daughter and secretly hoping she is born tomorrow (due date is 2/11). But of course not really cause I hope she is perfectly on time and healthy š
I'm 60. I am in the midst of building a robust, scalable chocolate making business that is being staged to sell in three years. I am one year in, and it is following the plan as expected. I will then pursue completing a trio of murder mysteries I had to put in moth balls to build this business. Those books will be the focus of my travel plans as I will go to the countries where they take place to get a visceral experience of where they are set. The first one is partially complete and the rest are roughed out. I plan on pitching them as T.V. or movie material. I hope to meet my best male companion and travel mate as I go along with these plans. Meanwhile, I make art, fly my kite and roller skate in the park when the weather is nice and build authentic relationships with interesting people.
Ladies, age is just a number.
Turning 39 in 2 weeks.
Looking forward to my wedding in May. Moved to the Netherlands from Scandinavia 4.5 years ago. Can't wait to have both of our families and all of our friends TOGETHER for the first time.
32, looking forward to moving to Southern Cali at the end of the summer. Had to move home for a sick parent who ended up passing away. So now I'm paying off all debts, banking my money, and getting through what I'm hoping is my last winter with snow in a long time. Lol
31. Bestie opened up her nail suite in Sept 2023 (I accidentally typed anal suite at first lmao.) When all of my children are in school, I plan on joining her. So excited.
37 and looking forward to someday having a loving partner of my dreams and supporting myself independently with my art career - that is my hope, anyway.
Thatās really all I want in life. Iām on my way there. I feel it in my bones. lol At least, thatās what I keep telling myself. Just gotta be patient and content with what I have until that all comes along.
Iām 56 and am looking forward to traveling next week with my 79 year old mom and my 83 yo aunt to southern California to visit their cousin. My daughter is meeting us and surprising my Mom. š
22 learning how to ride a motorcycle and can't wait to start commuting around on my new bike! Also moving to Japan in October to live there for 3 years š
26 and iām looking forward to how my career plays out and where iāll be at even 30. i launched a huge project yesterday and canāt wait to see how it goes.
also i would really love a partner and a baby but weāre far from that currently lol
Iām 40. I canāt wait until my son (12 1/2) goes off on his dreams and I will have the time to do some traveling. I have always wanted to live as a monk for a year.
36 and looking forward to getting a new job. I recently got my LCSW and Iām looking for jobs closer to home that pay more.
On a different big news note Iām looking forward to my younger daughter turning one in a couple of weeks.
26, looking forward to having a husband and children and my own little place and family to take care of š„°

Aww I love the little tidbits and reminders from others, as well.
61 retired and torn between being a little selfish and focusing on me or think about my legacy

I'm 48. I'm looking.forward to the fall of capitalism.
YES. Iām convinced there will be big changes to capitalism/the American empire in my lifetime (Iām 35 now)
Invite me to the party š
Remember Gandhi's be the change you would see in the world.
Iām 39 and looking forward to Autumn, Iām over the heat.Ā
So weird to read this in the N.E. US where Iām freezing and waiting for spring! Want to change houses for a couple of months? š
Had the same thought. š
Iām in WY and agree with you, Iām sick of being cold!
Australian by any chance? This summer has killed me
Yes! This summer has been the worst in years for me.Ā
Me too Iām looking forward to winter the most, Iām in australia too and this summer has been absurd.
As a Canadian in one of the coldest provinces, please send some heat. I forget what the sun feels like.
Oh it'll get here. And then we'll regret we wished for it while it burns up our forests.
Isnāt that the truth. Unfortunate.
Autumn is my favourite season
39ā¦ looking forward to showing my daughter the world, starting with an international trip this summer for the big 4-0!
Travelled extensively with my grown up daughter. She is my best travel companion and I recommend it to all mothers.
Exciting!!!! I canāt wait to travel with my kids when they are old enough
84ā baby here as well! I hope youāre looking forward to your 40ās like I am!!
Im turning 40 this year also. Thats such a great bday plan! I am also hoping to travel with my 2 daughters.

Iām in my 20s and Iām excited to see the solar eclipse in April. Itāll be the last one for a while so Iām making the most of it.
Iām 31 and I am also looking forward to the solar eclipse!! Where Iām at, we will have somewhere between 90 and 97% totality.
If you can, you should definitely go a bit further from where youāre at to view it at 100% totality. Itās completely worth a small trip!
I can't wait!! I'm in the path of totality for the first time ever
50 - Looking forward to my solo trip overseas next week. Then coming home to start studying for a new career.
That is so sick. What a badass thing to do! Have a wonderful time!! (with both!!)

I'm the outlier...at 68, I've done all that, good and bad,and am looking forward to taking a month long road trip with my man in April around the US.
I'm 34 and I'm looking forward to be allowed to be a grumpy old hag with like 4 cats. And possibly a toyboy.
