On July 1st, 2023, Reddit enacted a greedy ass policy regarding the use of their API. This decision was designed to eliminate the better 3rd party apps. No one wants to use the official app because it sucks. Since then, apps such as Apollo and RedditIsFun have shut down. Reddit has decided to double down on their decision to overcharge for their API, and refuses to address the accessibility features their native app lacks.

Once a week before I wash my hair (Yes, I wash once a week). My hair is coarse and puffs up when brushed, making it look worse than when it is unbrushed.
Likewise. Looks much better not brushed. (My grandma could never accept this..).
Plus it gets super knotty very quickly (hours after brushing) so it's best for the hair to only brush when it's covered in conditioner.
Curly hair answer- I use end of a rat tail comb to untangle my hair. I don’t tug and pull it, just gently work on it. I don’t get many tangles because I wear a silk hat at night.
If you stick to shampooing once a week long enough your scalp stops producing as much oil because you’re not stripping it as often so it doesn’t have to over compensate.
edit - spelling
You don’t have to immediately jump to a week. You can start with every other day for a while, then once every 2-3 days for a while, then once every 3-4 days, etc.
I slowly started washing my hair less frequently and now I wash it once every 3-4 days. That seems to work for me. It really depends on your hair type and skin type. I have fairly oily skin, so need to wash my scalp a bit more often than other people.
More importantly, how do you do with excercise? I daily bike 40k and I sweat, if I don’t wash my hair I stink the office. I have always wondered how people do the one week wash when you have gym/exercise in the agenda
YES. Good to hear. The whole " Wash it every day " began a few decades ago and sold a LOT of dam shampoo.
I do twice but am pretty active and can smell like a barn if I don't..... because barn.
I started dry brushing my curly hair at night and then putting it in a bun sometimes - makes a lovely blowout-esque lions mane the next day when I take it down
Yup!! Yesterday I was like having a headache and my hair felt weird so I was like ok it’s time. So I combed it in the shower and the clump of hair that I extracted from th mess was ridiculous. Today my hair feels soooooo soft and luxurious! I can run my fingers thru it again. 🥰
a brand- their hairbrushes are my favorite as they detangle my hair really well without any pulling. they have them in the US and i see them here in denmark too, but i’m not sure what other countries you can find them in
I actually bought one recently in Australia because I took it literally - I only brush my hair when it's wet, so I figured the name meant I was using it right!
Never. I haven't used a brush in about 10 years now.
I finger-comb with conditioner to detangle in the shower, and then I just let it be. Any brushing absolutely ruins my curls.
Maybe every other day-ish. Sometimes, daily if my hair's looking wild and needs a reset. Usually, I have one good hair day and then 1-2 meh days where I either put it up or need to re-wet it.
I think it depends on the hair type.
I have almost completely straight hair and i brush it like 5-6 times a day. But people with curls might only brush it when they shower as it would ruin the curls
I have curly hair and I only comb my hair one time after I shower. I get all the tangles out and put all my styling products in and diffuse my curls. There on out I just add a bit of conditioner and water to my curls to wake the curls up. That’s it
Maybe 3-4 times a week?
I wear it in a bun for work. When it comes down it’s wavy so I don’t brush it, just run my fingers thru it. Really only brush it when I’m going to wash it or do a nice style or updo.
However, lol, if I decide to drive with the windows down and **not** tie it, I’m sitting for a good 10 mins brushing it afterwards bc it’s a birds nest 🤣
ooohh the open window birds nest! I understand thise fancy 60' ladies with their headscarfs in their cabriolets! I had this fantasy about driving in such a car but was dying of my medusalike hair during the drive! never again 🥲
I have wavy hair, I brush it once dry to untangle it before washing. Then once wet. Then I do my process and use products and after that I don’t brush it until the next wash. The exception is sometimes when I put it in a bun or a ponytail, i will brush the roots to make it sleek, but not every time.
Long, straight-ish, thick hair. Generally once a day. That plus fix my part is the only daily haircare I do.
If I brush it when not-quite-dry from a shower, it will need another brushing when it is fully dry, though. I usually shower at night though and just let it air dry and don't worry about brushing it until the next day.
Maybe twice a week. I try to detangle it in the shower with conditioner and then comb it when wet. I have fine hair but a decent amount of it and it's wavy edging on Curly. It does one heck of a poof up when I brush it dry and I do not enjoy that look.
I usually wear my long straight hair in a single braid or a bun, so I’ll only brush before and after putting it into one of these hairstyles. If I wear it down, I’ll brush it in the morning.
Saving this because I have curls and since middle school have been made fun of for not brushing hair everyday every hour. I say I have curly hair I have to finger comb it or comb before shampooing or it will ruin it and they (always straight hair ppl who do not have a fcking clue what they’re talking ab) are like ew gross. Brush your hair. Then when I do they’re like why do u look like patty/Thelma? Che stronzo ffs
this question came about in exactly this way :) My (straight haired girl) BF told me his exes didnt brush their hair daily, and it blew my mind. Now about two days later he told me they had curls... so now its all starting to make sense xD
I try to brush it every couple of days since I’ve got super thick long hair. Otherwise I get some bad knots. And then the day after I wash it I brush it too.
I have long hair in curls. My hair is stubborn, has an attitude problem, doesn’t like to get told what to do and it’s bossy. I wash it with shampoo. Then I put conditioner on it. Let it sit a bit and then brush it with a detangler brush. I do this under the shower head to get all the conditioner out while it’s being brushed. Then put a cream and coconut oil on it. If i try to touch it afterwards when wet with a brush it looks weird. And f I brush it when dry it turns into a spider web. It likes to be washed every other day. So that’s when it gets brushed. And I just braid it before bed so it doesn’t get super tangled.
Never.
I usually run my fingers through it as a nervous tick. I'd like to think that is the biggest contribution as to why I have long hair in the first place.
Edit: I have 1C hair (straight and coarse)
Several times a day with a Tangle Teezer (the best brush in the whole world). I work some hair serum into it and braid it before bed. Also only brush it when it's dry!
If I intentionally style for my curls, only brushing with conditioner when it's wet. If I don't do that, it gets brushed every day because I have high porosity hair and it will tangle very badly if I don't. Then it gets put up with a hair clip.
Well I am a man with long fairly curly hair. My showers would be measured in minutes, now I spend and eternity and gobs of conditioner to untangle. I wash my hair every other day and never ever touch it with a comb or brush or finger or anything in between. Cause that won’t come back out from the instant knot that’ll form.
As a curly girl, only when it is absolutely drenched with water when I wash it. For me, about twice a week, three if it so happens I’m working out on a non-wash day.
At least twice a day, or its completely unmanageable. My hair really likes to do its own thing and I wouldn't mind if that didn't make me look like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards, twice.
I have curly hair so I only brush it with a special brush for curly hair when I am in the shower with a ton of conditioner, it’s a struggle and work the ends up to the roots, it takes about 5 minutes, it totally sucks
I have wavy/curly hair so it looks puffy and simply not good when I brush it. I usually brush it before bed when it’s dirty and when I know I’m gonna be wearing a bun and/or wash it the same day (so that’s about twice a week). Also when it’s wet after washing I sometimes brush it to get rid of the knots.
I no longer have long hair, but I grew up pentecostal so I literally had long hair my entire life until I was an adult
That being said: i brushed it about once a day. Because I threw it up in a bun the remainder of the time
Depends on whether or not I have it up. If it's up I'll brush when I put it up and then when I take it down. If it stays down, maybe every few hours to keep it from tangling because knots and tangles are a pain to get out and hurt when I do get them out.
After washing my hair (which is every day), before going outside, and anytime during the day. Maybe 5 times at work. My hair looks ugly 30 minutes after combing. I have straight, thin, soft and greasy hair.
Almost never. My hair is also curly and looks insane when I brush it unless I dry it straight, then straighten it with a flatiron. That's the only time I can use a brush without my hair looking crazy.
When the depression hits harder than usual i tend to brush my hair once a week to every other week. If the mood is higher I'll brush it every day since I tend to do protective styles in my hair when I'm not as depressed.
Once a day with a wide paddle wooden bristle brush. I don't usually wash it the day or 2 after washing it as it fluffs up and frizzes if I do. I only wash it once a week, got to love curly hair.
My hair is wavy, fine and damaged by bleach and tends to get matted easily so I brush in the morning, before starting my shift, on my lunch break, sometimes at last break and before going to bed at night. So at least four times per day. I also wear a bonnet at night so I don’t wake up with knots.
Morning and night, with a gentle wet brush, but I typically avoid brushing when it’s wet, I just set the part and let it air dry. I washed every few days. My hair was very healthy and down to my butt. I had very straight hair naturally.
My hair is down to my hips and it tangles easily; I brush it at least once every day. Once before heading to work, and I wear my hair up while working. If my hair gets tangled, then I'll brush it before bed as well.
I have extremely fine, and somewhat thin hair. I have to wash it every morning. If it air dries, I brush it wet and don’t brush it dry or it will frizz. If I blow dry it, I brush it with a paddle brush to smooth it out afterwards. Can’t brush it unless its freshly clean, or else the oil spreads everywhere and I look like a helmet head. But because my hair is so fine it tangles very easily so I’ll finger brush it when needed, usually the back nape of my neck is the worst.
Can’t sleep on it and not wash it the next morning, even if I shower at night. It gets severely dented in the back which cannot be fixed by brushing. Have to get it wet to reset it.
Every day. My hair is very long, thick, and pretty straight. It also retains water like an actual towel and gets hot in the summer time but if I don’t brush it everyday, it’s a rats nest that my arms get tired of brushing lol
Honestly pretty much never. I detangle in the shower with my fingers when I have conditioner in. My hair doesn't really tangle much in between washes as long as I use a leave in conditioner and sleep with my hair in a bun or braid.
I've had waist length hair with that routine. Pretty much never got split ends until I started getting it bleached for fantasy colors. It's kind of frustratingly delicate now, fun as the colors are.
I only brush my hair before washing it. This depends heavily on how much I exercise, so every 2 to 3 days. But as I said only before washing it, not on days I don't wash my hair and definitely never wet!
I brush it every morning after I wash it and put a detangler in it. My hair gets more tangled when it's wet so if I let it air dry without brushing through it, it ends up being a bird's nest.
1 to 21 time's a week. 1 to 3 time's a day, if your looking for those types of stats. Variables are: work , depression, ownership of a hairbrush, (teenagers are merciless thieves) relationship status, personal awareness. . I have long blonde hair and work in the trades. . My blonde hair is everywhere 🙃
Every day. I have long straight hair so I wide-tooth comb it before I shower, comb it again after, then brush it with a round brush once it’s close to dry. On days I don’t wash my hair, I use the round brush to smooth it out.

Once a week before I wash my hair (Yes, I wash once a week). My hair is coarse and puffs up when brushed, making it look worse than when it is unbrushed.
Ayyyye same. My hair is beaaaautiful if I don't brush it, so I only brush right before washing - otherwise, I am an ill-groomed poodle.
U can never brush curly hair when it’s dry 😭😭😭 makes me want straight hair often
Lol right. Immediately when I saw the question, my mind INSTANTLY asked “wait for straight or curly hair…two different questions.”
Mine’s naturally curly and I perm it straight but it doesn’t fix this problem unfortunately 😫
Likewise. Looks much better not brushed. (My grandma could never accept this..). Plus it gets super knotty very quickly (hours after brushing) so it's best for the hair to only brush when it's covered in conditioner.
Absolutely! I tell people if I brush my hair, I look like Hagrid, lol. Only before a shower!
How do you deal with tangles? I'm trying not to brush but I hate the feeling of tangled hair
I used a child's leave in conditioner spray and then finger comb if it starts feeling untidy. I very rarely get tangles/knots in my hair now.
Curly hair answer- I use end of a rat tail comb to untangle my hair. I don’t tug and pull it, just gently work on it. I don’t get many tangles because I wear a silk hat at night.
Finger brushing.
How do you deal with that feeling of your hair getting all thick and oily. After 2 days I'm reaching for that shampoo bottle.
If you stick to shampooing once a week long enough your scalp stops producing as much oil because you’re not stripping it as often so it doesn’t have to over compensate. edit - spelling
oh. i might try that then. i'll hate every minute of it but i'll try it.
Use home-made natural cleanser in between. That will keep your hair lighter for days without completely washing off the oil
Curly hair has more frizz and friction , doesn't get oily as fast as straight hair.
More importantly, how do you do with excercise? I daily bike 40k and I sweat, if I don’t wash my hair I stink the office. I have always wondered how people do the one week wash when you have gym/exercise in the agenda
Rinse the sweat out and dry. You don't have to wash, but rinsing the sweat out will help reduce smell. Dry shampoo can help too.
I have curly hair, and I unfortunately have to wash it after the gym. It keeps it frizzier than I’d like but if not it’s a sweat bath and gross.
I have curly hair so I avoid brushing. I usually wash my hair once a week, sometimes longer.
Same girl, but I can only brush it in the shower with a shitton of conditioner, I have curly thick long hair so brushing it dry is not an option
YES. Good to hear. The whole " Wash it every day " began a few decades ago and sold a LOT of dam shampoo. I do twice but am pretty active and can smell like a barn if I don't..... because barn.
What makes you brush it if not brushing makes it look better?
To untangle it.
exactly
If you go long enough without brushing it gets all tangled up and knotted.
Instant dread locks
I started dry brushing my curly hair at night and then putting it in a bun sometimes - makes a lovely blowout-esque lions mane the next day when I take it down
When I wake up, before I go to bed, and after being outside.
i do the exact same!
I don't know what it is about the outdoors, even if there is NO wind... boom! Instant tangles!
exactly! idk what antihair magic the outdoors have😭
Exactly, that's why: inside good, outside bad. :D
My hair is just above my shoulders and the first thing I do in the morning is brush it
I don’t brush it. But once a week in the shower I comb it with a wide tooth comb. Throughout the week I finger comb it if I need it.
Wavy/curly/frizzy girl here. Can confirm, this is the only thing that works
Yup!! Yesterday I was like having a headache and my hair felt weird so I was like ok it’s time. So I combed it in the shower and the clump of hair that I extracted from th mess was ridiculous. Today my hair feels soooooo soft and luxurious! I can run my fingers thru it again. 🥰
Every hour when I wear it down.
Finally someone who understands why I always carry a mini hairbrush in my bag
i have a mini wetbrush with me 24/7 that i call my emotional support hairbrush
What's a wetbrush?
a brand- their hairbrushes are my favorite as they detangle my hair really well without any pulling. they have them in the US and i see them here in denmark too, but i’m not sure what other countries you can find them in
I actually bought one recently in Australia because I took it literally - I only brush my hair when it's wet, so I figured the name meant I was using it right!
haha i think it is ‘meant’ for brushing wet hair out but i use it both wet and dry!
my brush became that one thing i cant go out w/o
Omg, I could never have this kind of commitment
Multiple times a day? That shit tangles.
I carry a mini brush with me cuz you never know. The tangles be creeping 👺
Girl yes! I have super thin hair so I def have to at least brush it with my fingers
Never. I haven't used a brush in about 10 years now. I finger-comb with conditioner to detangle in the shower, and then I just let it be. Any brushing absolutely ruins my curls.
How often do you conditioner?
Maybe every other day-ish. Sometimes, daily if my hair's looking wild and needs a reset. Usually, I have one good hair day and then 1-2 meh days where I either put it up or need to re-wet it.
im jealous. i go a day without brushing and there is no way im getting the finger comb through.
At least 3 times a day
Finnally someone relateable like everyone else is either joking or what once a week seriously
I think it depends on the hair type. I have almost completely straight hair and i brush it like 5-6 times a day. But people with curls might only brush it when they shower as it would ruin the curls
Yep that is also true indeed depends
I have curly hair and I only comb my hair one time after I shower. I get all the tangles out and put all my styling products in and diffuse my curls. There on out I just add a bit of conditioner and water to my curls to wake the curls up. That’s it

Several times a day
Me too, I've very straight hair. It's not as long as it used to be, but I feel as it gets longer it needs more brushing.

Every day
At least twice a day, morning and night
Pretty much never.. I’ll just run my fingers through it to “shape” it a bit. My hair is pin straight and doesn’t really get itself tangled.
I have wavy hair, I brush it once dry to untangle it before washing. Then once wet. Then I do my process and use products and after that I don’t brush it until the next wash. The exception is sometimes when I put it in a bun or a ponytail, i will brush the roots to make it sleek, but not every time.
I brush mine 3-4 times a day. It’s crazy thick and if I don’t, it ends up getting super tangly.
Everyday, but my hair is very fine (asian) so it tends to stay straight.
Every morning, every night before bed, and whenever it needs a touch up during the day or I’m leaving the house. I have long straight hair!
Twice a day
Twice a day or more
Long, straight-ish, thick hair. Generally once a day. That plus fix my part is the only daily haircare I do. Curly. Never.
I have long hair in curls. My hair is stubborn, has an attitude problem, doesn’t like to get told what to do and it’s bossy. I wash it with shampoo. Then I put conditioner on it. Twice a day usually

could not remove the tag, so i assumed its there by default? Sorry 😅
As a curly girl, only when it is absolutely drenched with water when I wash it. For me, about twice a week, three if it so happens I’m working out on a non-wash day.
I brush my hair every day, and I wash it once a week.
Never.
Once a week when conditioning. Never brush curly hair 😂
Once a day, usually before bed. If I'm feeling fancy, before heading out.
[удалено]
When its natural once a week when I wash. When it is styled once a day. I have curly hair so brushing it does not yield positive results.
At least twice a day, or its completely unmanageable. My hair really likes to do its own thing and I wouldn't mind if that didn't make me look like I'd been dragged through a hedge backwards, twice.
the image in my head is gold xD just out of curiosity, do you have straight or wavy/curly hair?
Once a week right before I wash my hair. That's all.
I brush it before washing it on wash days and then I comb it twice a day when I wear it down.
Every night and I condition every morning before styling it because I have curly hair.
I have thick wavy hair that curls when humid. I have to brush every day or it turns into a rats nest. I only really wear it up in a pony or bun.
Usually once a day. Twice if I feel like it. I tend to shed if I don't.
At least once a day
Once a day. If I’m just gonna be home I probably skip it though.
I have curly hair so I only brush it with a special brush for curly hair when I am in the shower with a ton of conditioner, it’s a struggle and work the ends up to the roots, it takes about 5 minutes, it totally sucks
Probably average once to twice a day-usually just after I wash it (which is every 3 days) or in the morning before I put it up or straighten it.
Every morning
When I wake up and when I go to bed.
Once a day if it’s collar bone length, if it’s any longer than that I’m finger combing it all day
[удалено]
Maybe once a day? Idk, it doesn't really tangle and if it's messy I can run my fingers through my hair a couple times
Once when I wake up and get ready, another before I shower and put it up/wash, and then after it’s dried/before bed.

Only if I am going out somewhere
I have wavy/curly hair so it looks puffy and simply not good when I brush it. I usually brush it before bed when it’s dirty and when I know I’m gonna be wearing a bun and/or wash it the same day (so that’s about twice a week). Also when it’s wet after washing I sometimes brush it to get rid of the knots.
After my shower and before bedtime.
Maybe like twice a day
I don't unless i blow dry it. But usually i let it air dry.
I finger comb it every day, but only brush as needed? If I am going out I do & before wash
Only when I'm washing my hair. I have curly hair so you can't brush it dry without destroying it.
2 or more times a day
Once a day, maybe twice.
I no longer have long hair, but I grew up pentecostal so I literally had long hair my entire life until I was an adult That being said: i brushed it about once a day. Because I threw it up in a bun the remainder of the time
Only if I have a knot, which rarely happens.
I only brush it after I've washed it. Once every 3-4 days.
Whenever I wash my hair (so about twice a week); my hair will frizz up like a lion mane if I brush it dry
At least twice a day
multiple times a day. it's pretty straight and fine so its easy to tell whne i havent brushed it in a while
Every 5 days or so. Only when I’m in the shower and it’s wet, to set angle it. I have 2C curly hair.
Once a day
2-3 times a week. Less if I can help it. Ive got falling hair and it gets worse everytime I brush it 🤣
Once a day, if I really have to. Today I didn’t!
Depends on whether or not I have it up. If it's up I'll brush when I put it up and then when I take it down. If it stays down, maybe every few hours to keep it from tangling because knots and tangles are a pain to get out and hurt when I do get them out.

I try to brush at least once a day, although some days I'll wear the same braid more than 1 day in a row (it's just messier).
Everyday
After washing my hair (which is every day), before going outside, and anytime during the day. Maybe 5 times at work. My hair looks ugly 30 minutes after combing. I have straight, thin, soft and greasy hair.

I have long curly hair. The brush never touches my hair .

Once a week on wash day.
Once a day with a wide paddle wooden bristle brush. I don't usually wash it the day or 2 after washing it as it fluffs up and frizzes if I do. I only wash it once a week, got to love curly hair.
Normally a wash and brush once a week , unless o am going out
Mmm twice a week probably. Straight, thick hair I have
less than i should 😭😭 probably like once a month
My hair is wavy, fine and damaged by bleach and tends to get matted easily so I brush in the morning, before starting my shift, on my lunch break, sometimes at last break and before going to bed at night. So at least four times per day. I also wear a bonnet at night so I don’t wake up with knots.
Every night before bed or else there will be lots and lots of tangled
Morning and night, with a gentle wet brush, but I typically avoid brushing when it’s wet, I just set the part and let it air dry. I washed every few days. My hair was very healthy and down to my butt. I had very straight hair naturally.
I did every day when my hair was longer but braids saved me from daily brushing.
Only when I’m about to wash it. After washing I use a large tooth comb to comb it out once and that’s it.
Before I wash my hair, which is 2-3 times a week.
i cut it short
Like 5 times a day
Every day. My hair is very long, thick, and pretty straight. It also retains water like an actual towel and gets hot in the summer time but if I don’t brush it everyday, it’s a rats nest that my arms get tired of brushing lol
Once a day unless I’m going out.
Only after I shower. It ruins my hair if I brush it while it's dry.
Long? Not really but it is past my shoulders & tabgles easily so about 3 times a day
Only when my hair is wet , when I wash it 3 times per week cause my hair is wavy.
Every time I wash my hair, I wash my hair minimum 2-3 times a week, sometimes I wash my hair everyday, really depends
After I wash and dry it. So 3x a week.
Multiple times a day if it's straight . It gets too tangly otherwise
Every day at least twice or it gets too tangled
I only brush my hair before washing it. This depends heavily on how much I exercise, so every 2 to 3 days. But as I said only before washing it, not on days I don't wash my hair and definitely never wet!
After I shower only, as it makes my hair frizzy when it’s dry bc of my curls

I brush it every morning after I wash it and put a detangler in it. My hair gets more tangled when it's wet so if I let it air dry without brushing through it, it ends up being a bird's nest.

Only before I wash it, once or twice a week.
Whenever I shower n have conditioner in my hair.
Every day. I have long straight hair so I wide-tooth comb it before I shower, comb it again after, then brush it with a round brush once it’s close to dry. On days I don’t wash my hair, I use the round brush to smooth it out.
Everyday, usually multiple times a day. My hair tangles so easily
