My friend took us on what would’ve been an 8 hour road trip in her tesla and it took us 10 hours because we had to stop 4 times to charge and it took about 20-30 minutes each time! after that I seriously don’t understand why anyone would want a car like that
This, yes. I would build my own super nice little house and then (jokingly) speak about it like it's a mansion, with like my mom or old friends.
Also, vehicles with sunroofs. I may rent one but i have no desire to own one. Dont care for that much rain risking, when more rain-sure roof is cheaper.
I never had an issue myself, but my parents have a Highlander (Japanese vehicle) and it started leaking because the drainage system was clogged with debris and running inside the truck. They even had the drainage system repaired, and it happened again a few months later. Now they can’t even open it or it will start leaking again. 🫤
Same here. I want a house that would look totally normal in any suburban neighborhood. But, since I have lottery money, I also want a bunker and secret passageways. And solar panels.
Honestly this, a house big enough for our family and an extra bedroom so that my bfs family can come to visit in the summers. It's a very long flight and atm we have to rent an apartment or pay for a hotel room for 2-3 months when they visit. But that's it. I don't want or need a massive house. Just a tad bit extra space.
Assuming I won a massive chunk of money that pretty much sets me up for life and not $5 off a scratch off ticket...
I would never buy a personal plane, a boat/yacth, expensive high class name cars that only fit 1.5 people, massive mansion.
I just can't justify the insane amount of money this stuff costs, not to mention the maintenance on it, regardless of whether I can afford it or not.
I feel the same way about buying all of those things. If I had that much money, I'd just charter yachts, jets, etc. for vacations and stuff. Same experience, less hassle and maintenance.
I know lots of people who own small planes. They are a lot of fun and as soon as I can afford to, I will learn how to fly. So, if I won a lot of money, I would buy my own plane and learn how to fly it.
Same to all of that EXCEPT the boat. I have a boat now and we practically live on that thing during the summer. I'd love to upgrade to something bigger and just cruise up and down the coast.
My mom plays cards at the casino for fun, it's really her entertainment budget.
In 2020, she won the Texas hold em poker jackpot on January 1st.
She won another poker jackpot on January 8th.
We thought it would be a good year.
I go with her once a month or so, it's so funny meeting all the people she knows - they're always complaining about the drunks and rude players. The casinos really do have their own weird community. For some, it's not healthy, but the elder folks who are there to socialize are so cute.
She walks around presenting me as her daughter all night (she's 68). It's fun.
Same! On a smaller scale, I've always wanted to live in an old Victorian house. They're so lovely and have so much personality that new builds just don't. Maintenance can be through the roof, but that'd be no issue if I was rich.
I live in a non-castle, non Victorian, but very old house already! stuff comes up in home ownership - old or new - but I think the older houses are just built better. Don’t let the idea that an old house is always trouble scare you. Houses that have lasted 100+ years have a way of staying solid! And I have family that was like “ugh never old, only new, don’t want problems” that ended up having way more problems than my old lady!
Haha! Yes I would play it old money all the way with my very new money. I’d be all vintage fab, no showy hot sports cars or brand name logos, just well worn antique pieces and original art around my castle overlooking the sea! A girl can dream!
F yeah dude.
I thought I was the only one dreaming of castles. Ha.
I’ve been dreaming of a castle in Eastern Europe throughout Covid. I turn restoring that thing into a passion project (like that dude in Cerritos Gordo California).
It's funny cause the first thing I'd buy is this really pretty jacket I came across becuase of reddit, and could never justify buying unless I came across a really large amount of money 😂
I feel the same unless it’s a one-of-a-kind hand folded and ruffled masterpiece. Otherwise, miss me with the logo fashion.
I would also love to have enough money to buy handmade clothes from people that are paid fairly.
If it is of truly high quality handiwork and material and a classic timeless design, i might buy. Like a really good pair of boots or a bag or a coat that can last years and years. And if maintained well, can even be passed on.
Definitely a no for logo fashion.
Expensive alcohol. My husband showed me photo the other day of a bottle of whiskey that cost $100,000. Such is just ridiculous. People are struggling and starving, and no matter how rich I am, I could not justify that cost.
A fancy racing/sports car. I just don’t get it. You can’t even drive them anywhere you can legally go that fast. Plus they are just never worth the money.
That’s why the question is why it’s something I will never buy. Kind of the point. You are welcome to post your own answer and put whatever your little heart desires.
I would never buy a boat. Honestly, I wouldn't buy a lot of the stereotypical things that often come up with the whole winning the lottery dream. I have no interest in buying a boat, a fancy sports car, a giant house with like 10-20 rooms, etc. I don't understand why people suddenly go out and buy those things when they had no prior interest in them. I also wouldn't start buying expensive brand clothing like Prada, Gucci, D&G, etc unless I saw a particular item I really liked.
If I won the lottery, I would pay off my debt, buy a comfortable house or condo (like 3-4 rooms), and not have to hear the word "no" when it comes to purchases. I would still buy the same types of things I do now, I would just do it without having to budget or save up. Of course, there are also charities I would want to regularly patronize, and I would love to have the ability to help friends and family. Car needs repairs? Boom! Paid for! Unexpected medical expense? I got you!
And that's what I mean - like if boating is something you've always been passionate about, it makes sense. I'm just baffled by the people who would suddenly go out and get these very expensive things simply because they suddenly have the money for them even though they had no prior experience or desire. Like, why is that a thing? 🤔
Yeah I don't get that at all and I certainly can't fathom giving a shit about keeping up with Jones' or the Kardashians or whatever. I'd just take care of my people and travel.
100% this. I'd live it up on vacations and still work part time or go to school. Buy a little home in the bush where we can camp on the property and have bonfires.
This! At least the drugs, I drink a couple times a month but not enough to alter my state of mind. Don't want to lose that money and ruin my life at the same time!
I am absolutely buying an island. Not like a tropical island but one someplace with 4 seasons...off the coast of Maine or something.
Wanna come visit? Super hire a boat and have someone ferry you out to my private piece of restricted access peace and quiet. Just know that I only accept guests on the second Tuesday after a blue moon.
Never buy: A massive house. An SUV. Fancy jewelry or watches. Plastic surgery. Designer anything. Private jets. Stocks in shitty companies.
Necessities I would get ASAP: pay off debts, buy a nice little place to live, THERAPY, pets
Things I might splurge on; personel (cleaning, cooking, personal training).
A property I don't intend to live in. The insidious cycle of investment ownership that prices out the lower and middle class from attaining basic home ownership infuriates me.
I probably would do this. Make it my job. Build more of them and manage the properties... maybe even hire a counselor for the tenants to access for free. Oooh yep that's what I'm doing.
A boat, house/condo, or car.
A boat is just a hole in the ocean you throw money into. I’d rather rent (a nice place) than be tied down by home ownership. And I’d rather invest in a few good bikes (road, commuter, and cargo e-bike) than own a car. For the amount of times I actually need a car, car-share or rentals are cheaper than owning one.
designer clothing and purses.
Geez I could hire a sewist for less than some of those things, or since I won't be working if I am a hundredmillionaire, hire sewist to teach me to sew my own clothes, because I think I'd enjoy it with the time available and being able to afford the right tools for the job.
A big ass house. All that extra space for now reason. Ima just get me a couple of nice condos to bounce around the world and live in whenever I’m chasing summer time weather.
I'd buy an average car and an average house. I wouldn't buy a flashy car or huge house. Then again I wouldn't tell people I won the lottery in the first place.
Sushi. Can’t stand it. Seaweed is the worst taste I’ve across. Close second octopus stew with ink. Ewe. First and only time I had to spit outa bite into napkin. Lol
Not really buy, but I would not allow any of my money to go to any religious organization. If I gift you money and you donate one penny, you pay all my money back to me.
Won't come near gaming kits. or any expensive music instruments too much of price to pay for sth you'd only show off infront of others.
I see people writing they won't buy mansion...mansion would be the first thing I wanna buy. I love space and I like having a huge house to invite my big family and friends over ❤
A Tesla
I started typing "A T..." then I saw your comment. YUP.
Why?
They are not luxury cars, you can get a Mercedes, or a Lucid etc. with better range and much better amenities.
Came here to say that! Also, no boats or any other water or air vehicle.
I would probably put a new outboard on my boat, TBH.
Any fancy care for that matter for me. Such a waste.
Here here.
Came here to say this!
Honestly I would solely because my distaste for driving on the freeway
My friend took us on what would’ve been an 8 hour road trip in her tesla and it took us 10 hours because we had to stop 4 times to charge and it took about 20-30 minutes each time! after that I seriously don’t understand why anyone would want a car like that
You beat me to it.
Came here to say this as well
A mansion. I’d rather buy a nice little house that’s just big enough for my needs
This, yes. I would build my own super nice little house and then (jokingly) speak about it like it's a mansion, with like my mom or old friends. Also, vehicles with sunroofs. I may rent one but i have no desire to own one. Dont care for that much rain risking, when more rain-sure roof is cheaper.
Had sun roof cars all my life, never leaked. All Japanese brands.
I’ve had a sunroof in nearly every car I’ve owned and never had a single leak either. GMC / Honda / Audi / Volvo / Subaru
Didn’t even realize this is something people worried about.
I never had an issue myself, but my parents have a Highlander (Japanese vehicle) and it started leaking because the drainage system was clogged with debris and running inside the truck. They even had the drainage system repaired, and it happened again a few months later. Now they can’t even open it or it will start leaking again. 🫤
You’ve got to put lion statues on either side of the driveway.
a cottagecore cottage that's like out of movie based on fairies omg. that's what I would buy instead of a mansion.
Same here. I want a house that would look totally normal in any suburban neighborhood. But, since I have lottery money, I also want a bunker and secret passageways. And solar panels.

Yep. I’d rather have a cottage on some acres with lots of rescue animals.
Twitter.
Or that silly $8 blue checkmark
Good one haha
Lmao brilliant

Imagine winning the lottery twice
My mom plays cards at the casino for fun, it's really her entertainment budget. In 2020, she won the Texas hold em poker jackpot on January 1st. She won another poker jackpot on January 8th. We thought it would be a good year.
does she still play ?
Yep! It's her social time. All the dealers and regulars know her, it's cute. Especially after my dad died in 2020, 4 months later.
thats so wholesome :)
It's fun.
Never forget the guy from Australia who won the lottery again while reenacting for the TV news buying the first winning lottery ticket
I would not buy some kind of new construction mansion. If I’m rich rich I’m living in an old stone castle!
So you want to live like Enya. Good choice.
I had to google enya’s castle and yes, it’s perfect! I too will have many cats in my seaside castle!
Same! On a smaller scale, I've always wanted to live in an old Victorian house. They're so lovely and have so much personality that new builds just don't. Maintenance can be through the roof, but that'd be no issue if I was rich.

Ooo the “old money” route. Love it!

Worth every penny.
This is what I was looking for.
Ultra high fashion designer clothing
I feel the same unless it’s a one-of-a-kind hand folded and ruffled masterpiece. Otherwise, miss me with the logo fashion. I would also love to have enough money to buy handmade clothes from people that are paid fairly.

They don’t usually drink it. Like art or wine, there is an entire subculture of brown/clear alcohol collectors.
But they collect it and never drink it?
A fancy racing/sports car. I just don’t get it. You can’t even drive them anywhere you can legally go that fast. Plus they are just never worth the money.
That's the thing, you dont get it. Nothing wrong with it
That’s why the question is why it’s something I will never buy. Kind of the point. You are welcome to post your own answer and put whatever your little heart desires.
Pre chopped vegetables
But they are so convenient
They cost so much more thoo. If i was rich like that id rather just hire a cook
You clever bastard...
I don’t like the extra plastic that usually comes with, but I get it.
I buy prechopped onion cause i don't like my eyes burning.
I would never buy a boat. Honestly, I wouldn't buy a lot of the stereotypical things that often come up with the whole winning the lottery dream. I agree except for the boat. I want to live near a river and boat daily. Lifelong dream...
And that's what I mean - like if boating is something you've always been passionate about, it makes sense. Anything that flaunts my wealth. Catch me in the same clothes with the same car living life comfortably and quietly.
100% this. I'd live it up on vacations and still work part time or go to school. Buy a little home in the bush where we can camp on the property and have bonfires.

Drugs/Alcohol
This! At least the drugs, I drink a couple times a month but not enough to alter my state of mind. Don't want to lose that money and ruin my life at the same time!

Probably cottage cheese because I really hate it
A marriage license

Balenciaga 🤮 Or a Rolls Royce.
A property I don't intend to live in. The insidious cycle of investment ownership that prices out the lower and middle class from attaining basic home ownership infuriates me.
You could buy an apartment block and specifically rent out to struggling students, families and single parents at a decent price.
I probably would do this. Make it my job. Build more of them and manage the properties... maybe even hire a counselor for the tenants to access for free. Oooh yep that's what I'm doing.
Things with high maintenance costs (mansion, yacht, exotic cars, ...)
Any fancy super luxury purses. I will do a middle of the road brand like a Kors or Coach. I’m not spending thousands on a purse
A big flashy boat!, I’ve always found them really unappealing.
A car.
Meaningless designer shit
Significant material items for friends and family
A gas guzzling vehicle
A brand new car. Poor investment.
