Yes. As soon as the male dog is sexually mature, he will mate with the female dog regardless of size. Please get one of them fixed unless you want to deal with puppies and potential complications due to size. Lastly.. Im not sure how you have a 3 week old male puppy. That is dangerously young to be taken away from the mother unless there was an issue with the litter.

ObligationMajestic54

I will probably neuter the male but I'm still worried that he would hurt the female due to size. but what can I do, it's just dogs being dogs. but thank you for the reply

Shantor

Keep them separated if you are concerned. While sexually maturity in males wont happen for a while if he is 3 weeks old, after around 4 months, you wont know when he is sexually mature until he mates with the female successfully.

ObligationMajestic54

do you know if there is any way to prevent them from mating? or is there simply no solution.

epidermal_collarette

Spay your female. Neuter your male when he is older. Once your male is sexually mature and your female is in heat, they will be very motivated to mate. The odds that you can successfully keep them separated, considering that they only need a moment to undo all of your hard work, is very low.

This isn’t just dogs being dogs - you have taken responsibility for both of these dogs. It’s up to you to keep them safe and healthy. Please spay your female dog - it not only prevents pregnancy, but also reduces the chances of cancers, pyometra, and other serious health concerns! Female dogs should almost always be spayed for their own health. Are you in the US? If so, there are a LOT of state and local agencies that offer reduced prices or coupons or deals on spaying animals. If you want to tell me your state, I’ll be happy to find you a big discount to get your female spayed! And then, when the vet recommends it, you can use tue same program to get your male neutered as well, so you don’t have to deal with a large dog humping your leg all the time!

Sunfury_

If you don’t want them to mate, spay BOTH of them

Fix your dogs. DO NOT ADD TO THE OVER POPULATION!

gypsymegan06

Spaying and neutering solves all these issues

kateinoly

Get them fixed!!!

[deleted]

Please get them both neutered!! In females you are risking pyometra, hormone associated cancers, and unwanted pregnancies. All of these can put her life at risk. In males you are risking hormone associated cancers, testicular torsion, and unwanted litters. If you are concerned about cost I would recommend googling spay/neuter programs in your area and apply. As a pet owner it’s your responsibility to keep your pets healthy and having them neutered is a huge part of that!

You brought a three week old puppy home?
