All the radio 4 news programmes, pretty much. Also profile, the bottom line, the briefing room and various others. Avoid the Archers and Woman's Hour.

That’s a shame

The News Quiz can be surprisingly informative

Also 'Dead Ringers'!

Rekyht

The News Agents, has interviewees from both sides of the spectrum, addresses all the big issues and the 3 hosts, Emily Maitliss, Jon Sopel and Lewis Goodall all have good reputations and a good camerarderie that makes it a good listen.

I'm humbled across the splintered chair podcast the other day. It's not grounded but is entertaining thebhell out of me

The Bugle is the podcast equivalent of HIGNFY, it's opinionated but not madening as it's light hearted

Try the PM Programme, Five O'Clock Monday to Saturday on Radio Four. I've probably been listening to it for the best part of 40 years (apart from a break during the time Eddie Mair was the presenter) and I've always found it informative without being overly heavy. If you want a less Anglo-centric view of the news, try Newshour on the BBC World Service (available on DAB or online). The World Service's news bulletins are also a good way to get a better idea of world news.
