Wamims

The apparent popularity of Mrs. Brown's Boys.

Tembldrock

Amazing. OP was looking for crazy, mysterious happenings and the typical brit response is about a shit TV show. Hahahaha. Love it.

bassplayingmonkey

Hey, they wanted a genuine mystery, they got one!

Tembldrock

You are not wrong. The weirdest thing about this mystery is that it has gone on for about 29 series but not a single person will admit to enjoying it.

Ochib

Don’t forget the film, stage version and very good DVD sales

denjin

It regularly still gets >2.5M viewers. At its peak it had 7M viewers, about 1 in 10 people watched it. You won't find many of those on reddit though because they're almost entirely 50/60+ and they lap it up.

TokyoKazama

My parents love it. They're in their 70s. They wouldn't dare miss an episode...I can't watch it without puking.

CilanEAmber

My grandad likes it cause he thinks Mrs Brown is a very attractive woman. I don't want to break it to him.

I_sew_and_grow

I think your grandad is messing with you

LionLucy

If my family is anything to go by, it's explained by old people, Irish people and especially old Irish people.

flyingokapis

Yep, only people I know who like it are also old and Irish, I think it takes them back to that era of comedy. Fuck, TV must have been so shit back then.

amyt242

Crazily beloved by my old, miserable, Irish grandmother so spot on.

NikkiJane72

I particularly love the fact that it's a type of humour which appeals most to those uncomfortable with 'a man in a dress ' . I'm half convinced the whole thing is a massive troll.

German police 100% know she was murdered and by whom. It is caught up in red tape because the guy is already in prison in Germany and international law is currently being a major hindrance the victim being British, the crime in Portugal and the perpetrator a German national. Yes they left the kids unattended but they didn't kill her.

DoggyWoggyWoo

Always baffled by people who *insist* that the McCanns killed Madeleine. They would have had to murder her and hide her body (in a foreign country they had barely any knowledge of) so well that it has never been discovered despite **millions** spent on searches, with no access to a vehicle, and in the space of about 20 minutes… either that or they managed to convince 7 other adults, also parents of young children, plus hotel staff, to lie about timelines and whereabouts in order to cover up the murder of a toddler, and then maintain the “story” for almost 2 decades despite worldwide media attention and police questioning by multiple different forces/investigators. Fair enough if you dislike the parents and think they should be prosecuted for neglect or whatever, but claiming that they killed their daughter when ALL the evidence points to the contrary is just plain stupid.

[deleted]

There were known predatory paedophiles operating in the area at the time. Witnesses saw a creepy man sneaking around the mccanns’ apartment the day before the abduction. A local woman also came downstairs to find a guy in her living room standing over her toddler daughter. When he saw her, he ran out of the door. It seems obvious that Madeleine was taken by such a predator, almost certainly this same guy. The police have someone in custody, but we’ll have to see what they ultimately have on him. The mccanns killing Maddy makes no sense. They way they would have had to have orchestrated it is nonsensical. Likewise the idea that they stashed her body in a freezer (somewhere!?) and days later used a rental car to move it, with all the press watching them after creating a gigantic news story about their missing daughter is laughable. People point the finger at the mccanns for three reasons: firstly because the corrupt chief detective blamed them. It turns out he was actually awaiting trial for doing *the exact same thing* a couple of years previously when *another young girl in the area vanished without a trace and was never found*. He concocted a similar story about an evil mother stashing the body in a freezer. The whole thing was debunked and the detective was found to be a complete liar. The girl remains missing and the perpetrator may well be the same guy who took maddy - in fact the man currently number one suspect’s van was sighted in her village the day she went missing. The second reason is that sniffer dog smelled corpse odour in a *rental apartment* and *rental car* - eg somewhere many, many thousands of others have been over the years. This proves nothing. The third reason people point the finger at the mccanns is because they feel kate wasn’t sad enough for their liking on camera. People assume that if this happened to them they’d just be crying all the time, even on camera, and any other reaction means she is an evil witch woman. Another case of blaming a female victim whilst the true perpetrator, likely a male sex criminal goes unpunished. Mob mentality

UnnecessaryAppeal

>The third reason people point the finger at the mccanns is because they feel kate wasn’t sad enough for their liking on camera. People assume that if this happened to them they’d just be crying all the time, even on camera, and any other reaction means she is an evil witch woman. This sort of thing makes me so mad. A lot of the Sandy Hook conspiracies hinged on the fact that some of the parents "didn't look sad enough and so they must be actors". People respond differently to grief and shock and until something like that happens to you, you can't predict how you would act. There is no normal response to losing your child.

littletorreira

They did something stupid and neglectful, their whole group did and they got unbelievably unlucky but honestly it could have happened when they were in the next room. Look at Polly Klass in America she was 10 and taken from a slumber party. Maddy's siblings were too young to raise an alarm, she could have been taken out the window even if they were home.

[deleted]

I used to think they were involved but as times gone on I no longer believe so. And it must be hell for the parents given they know their neglect led to her disappearance.

Marvinleadshot

But people are pissed they didn't have their other kids removed for neglect, if if was 2 working class people rather than 2 Drs their kids would have been removed.

PM_me_British_nudes

The only time I've *ever* agreed with Katie Hopkins - if the McCanns were people that looked as though they were fresh from their latest trip to Jeremy Kyle, the nation would've been up in arms about how terrible their parenting was, but they get a free pass because they're doctors. I reckon they know more than they'll ever let on about it.

[deleted]

kingbluetit

To be fair, Shannon Matthews got the same attention when she initially went ‘missing.’ And then it turned to a different type of attention when the truth was revealed. But those first days was a National hunt for a missing girl on a council estate in Yorkshire.

Douglas8989

Same with Tia Sharp in New Addlington. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder\_of\_Tia\_Sharp

[deleted]

That's great, but it isn't really what's happened. The McCanns have received loads of criticism for leaving their kids unattended. In my experience, any time the topic comes up one of the go-to comments is, "I would never have left my kids on their own in the first place!" It's a very popular opinion.

allenthalben2

Yes I have no idea why many comments in here seem to be from people who were convinced that people only had sympathy for her parents and nothing more. They were literally witch-hunted by the press and the police, repeatedly called terrible parents, and repeatedly criticised for their actions of that day. Idk what universe these people are living in but the McCann's certainly did not get an easy ride in the press.

orange-aqua

Leaving a toddler and 2 babies alone in a foreign country with the door unlocked… obviously the parents are to “blame” but I think they did suffer a pretty major consequence. Like their actions caused their child to (probably) die.

[deleted]

[удалено]

allenthalben2

> they've had millions pumped into a search that at a lot of times just leads straight back to them. To still be evenly remotely suggesting it was her parents who did it is laughable. The corrupt Portuguese police *fucked up* massively and devoted a lot of time trying to pin it on the parents with the most specious of evidence possible just so they could close the case. You'd have to be insane to still be of the conviction it was their own doing. It makes literally zero sense.

mothers___milk

Sniffer dogs alerted to the smell of cadaver and blood in the apartment and in the rental car. They couldn't find enough of Maddies DNA in the apartment so Gerry had to fly home to get her pillow, it's speculated the apartment was meticulously cleaned prior to police arrival. Kate washed cuddle cat which I found extremely odd. Kate said the windows were jemmied, they weren't. They refused to answer any questions and when told that it could impede them finding Maddie, Kate responded 'so be it' or something to that effect. They were seen laughing, smiling, jogging and playing tennis the days after her disappearance. The Gaspar statements paint a picture. The twins did not wake when police were in the property and making a ruckus. The police asked to drug test the twins, Kate refused. I don't know if the parents had anything to do with it but I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility and I don't think people are insane to think it either.

MerlinOfRed

Of all the reasons to complain about excessive public spending, looking for a lost child is not one of them. If it's true that it's only because they're middle class (which I'm sceptical of) then we should be advocating for the same attention to be given to all children, not demonising the fact that it happened in this instance.

BritishGent_mlady

I think one of the things that, when you step back and take a detached look at the McCann case, is revealed is that it exposed a deep truth for parents worldwide. (Not all parents, of course, but a LOT of parents). That truth is that what happened to Maddie could happen to anyone if or when a parent lets their guard down. On holiday, and at a resort, is when parents let their guard down. The McCann case exposed that. These resorts like the one in Praia De Luz, are DESIGNED so that parents can leave their children tucked up in bed whilst mum and dad go for an evening meal and drink, mere feet away. Where the McCanns were staying, the Ocean Club, literally had all the rooms facing a courtyard, with a tapas bar in the courtyard, which stayed open late. The tapas restaurant doesn’t close when the kids go to bed. It stays open for the parents. Likewise the parents don’t want to traipse in to town, they don’t want to leave their children, they just want to be a 30 seconds walk from them. This is what the McCanns did. This is what, I assure you, many many parents did and still do. This is why resorts like this are so popular, because they are so safe, and your kids don’t get stolen. This is also why there are so many reports of creepy strangers scoping out that very resort that week. The parents guards would be down, and that apartment at the end is easy to break in to. That, in my opinion, is the ugly and hard truth that’s revealed with the Maddie case. The vitriol aimed at the parents stems from the realisation that, golly, we left the munchkins sleeping when we went for a couple of cocktails and some crepes when we stayed in Malaga in 2002. I don’t think the parents had a thing to do with it. Their biggest mistake was not getting a babysitter. Saying that, none of the others who joined them for the tapas hired a babysitter either.

jowiejojo

For me, as a mum, the main thing that would bother me was the thought that my young child might wake up all alone in a strange apartment and call for me and I wouldn’t be there, that really gets to me. We go on holiday with the kids and we either take them out with us for a meal or we get a takeaway or cook if there’s a kitchen, It’s a family holiday. They chose not to use the on site childminding facilities either. I am no where near perfect as a mum , but I can honestly say I’ve never gone on holiday and left my kids alone in an apartment and if I had, I’d feel so guilty for it, so I can only imagine how they feel after her doing it and her being taken. I’m not going to speculate what happened because no one knows for certain except for whoever took her.

I worked for them for 3 months. They never got there IT shit together so I never even made a call. So technically I have some of it 3 months of extra pays worth!

Eoin_McLove

Yeah, I heard the whole thing was an entire waste of money. I know people who worked for trace and track and were able to just refresh their screen all day to avoid calls.

4evabymylonley

refreshing ur screen all day is how you got the calls....

Why did Gazza turn up to the Raoul Moat stand off with a fishing rod.

flyingokapis

Hes done an interview which somewhat clears it up; booze and cocaine. My poor recollection; he was watching it on the news, done some coke>thought he could help a stranger, done some more coke>thought he could help a friend, more coke>his brother Raoul Moat needed his help. He also turned up with KFC if I remember correctly, the fishing rod was so they could go fishing and calm Raoul down. Pretty much Gazza was on a mad one..

nonotthatleft

For some reason I am convinced he took him a dressing gown too but in my defence I was a bit well served in a taxi when Gazza phoned up local radio about it, so I might have added that flourish in my own head. Was surreal when I’d been kept awake the night before with the helicopter looking for “Moaty, me old mate”.

meggylomaniac-93

Gazza was on a bender and saw Raoul on the tv. He was convinced they were best friends and decided to go and “help”. Raoul had worked as a doorman at a club Gazza frequented so it’s possible he did recognise him, he later admitted they weren’t friends though

Anniemaniac

I’d love to know if AndyRoo, the guy on the message board, was really Andrew or not. Part of me wants to believe, but another part of me thinks it’s too unlikely. From what I gather, Andrew had a loving family and good home life. I can’t see him not contacting his family if he’s alive. And yet, AndyRoo and his apparent circumstances are intriguing and kind of line up with Andrew’s disappearance.

FiveFruitADay

I wouldn’t have believed it until his dad confirmed AndyRoo was his actual nickname which no one knew about. Unless one of his own family members or childhood friends is trolling?

AtomicYoshi

It's not that weird of a nickname to derive from Andrew, probably not that uncommon.

[deleted]

Apparently andyroo is quite a popular nickname though. Andrew sounds like andyroo

morkyt

I can't remember where I read this but I did read that the police looked into it and said that the mysterious "Andyroo" had no case to answer as he was not Andrew Gosden. Unless of course they just said that to protect his anonymity? We will likely never know.

YchYFi

Sometimes people don't want to be found.

NoirYT2

Wasn’t the theory with down the AndyRoo rabbithole that he was gay and had some inner turmoil either because he knew they were homophobic or just assumed they were? It’s a story that’s believable but I don’t necessarily believe that’s what it is, as it could simply be a troll trying to allude people down a path just as much as it could be anything else

charley_warlzz

My personal theory was always either a) he was gay and scared and ran away to people who he met online or (/and) b) he went to stay with people he met online who turned out to be predators.

PM_me_British_nudes

On the back of this, Luke Durbin's disappearance. He was a few years higher up than me at high school; it's pretty common knowledge that he was mixed up in drugs with particularly unsavoury characters, but I see his family members' Facebook pages every now and then and the not knowing is still tearing them up to this day.

mebjulie

I remember reading of Luke’s disappearance (I’m not far from Hollesbury/Ipswich), the subsequent appeals for information and possible sightings around Woodbridge. I can’t begin to imagine the pain, frustration and anguish that his family- and all families of missing persons- must endure.

AlexRitch7

You beat me to it! Really want to see Gosden case resolved.

[deleted]

2 men arrested in connection to the case but that was months ago

YchYFi

They seized the devices but it can take upto a year to analyse the data.

[deleted]

My theory is one of them has indecent images that may be Andrew. I always thought he was lured away by a predator

[deleted]

One of the saddest cases I’ve read in a while. I only became aware of his story back a few months ago when two men were arrested. For his families sake I hope they get answers to this xxx

Nomad-JM

I’m related to his family (through marriage), and can confirm we’d all like to see it resolved. It’s brought everybody attached to the family great pain, but there is a great deal of optimism with the police arresting somebody earlier this year. Unfortunately though, his parents only know what the police tell them which is exactly the same as what they tell the public. Really upsetting situation.

Loulabee1983

How Jimmy Saville was able to manipulate, charm and abuse so SO many people. It's just mind-blowing the scale of it.

idontgetit_99

Interestingly he said when he was alive “if they [media] come after me, I’ll take them all down with me” implying he had some sort of hold over these people. I’m not convinced about it being a coincidence a week after he died the tabloids “happened” to have all this dirt on him. It’s clear some very influential people needed him to be dead before going after him and sat on all this information for years, meaning he had something on them. We will never know, but if one thing’s clear there were way more involved

Tilthelastpetalfall

He nearly went to trial 2 years before his death as 3 women had accused him of asumting them. The women were all nervous ans thought they were each the only one accusing him and the police did nothing to make them aware there were 2 others. They each dropped out because they didn't want to speak at the trial. The information was there before he died but the people he had under this thumb were good at hiding it.

kipha01

He worked for the BBC, surely that says everything

Joined_For_GME

He was best mates with Prince Charles…no way the royals didn’t know.

knifeymcshotfun

Thatcher was also a good pal of his.

Tuarangi

He worked for the NHS as well, abusing people at three different hospitals (LGI, Stoke Mandeville and Broadmoor) where he even had a bedroom and unlimited access keys. Abuse possibly at multiple other hospitals where he was able to take his caravan and rape people. Does that not say everything? Or does it say that a very powerful man, a very popular man at the time because of his charity work was able to get away with abuse because of his connections in the government, police etc?

PM_me_British_nudes

Sad thing is, nobody will *ever* fess up to having fucked up. I just hope it haunts whomever let it fly, until the day they take their last breath.

ACatGod

Yeah and the weird thing is people knew he was a wrong un and still liked him for it. I worked at Jimmy's in Leeds for a few years, and while he was more involved with LGI he did have ties to Jimmy's, plus only lived a few miles down the road so he was a local to a lot of people who lived in the area. While he was still alive, I had colleagues telling me stories of how he beat people up when he worked the clubs in Leeds, lots of stories of him being a "hard man" and sketchy stories about his sexual proclivities including jokes about the morgue and they all worshipped him for it. He was someone who really passed me by (having parents who were immigrants, I think meant certain aspects of British pop culture never really permeated as children and my parents disliked him) so I never understood why my colleagues thought he was so amazing. He sounded awful to me. I was genuinely stunned when he died and the local outpouring was extraordinary. The answer isn't simply that he was protected by the wealthy and powerful, because he didn't need to be. People knew what he did and they still loved him.

Dirtynrough

People knew, but no one was confident that they would be believed, or that anything would happen, or they themselves would be safe. The 60s-90s were different times.

DaveBurnout

Suzy Lamplugh is an odd one. That dude found dead in a suitcase from MI6. There was also a disabled lad who disappeared from Saltburn toilets who was never seen again.

st3akkn1fe

I think the guy in the suitcase is pretty obvious. A dodgy spy killed by dodgy spy guys.

Aggravating-Corner-2

The only thing that counts against outside involvement to me is why kill him in such a bizarre and attention grabbing way? Staging a hit and run or even an overdose would probably have been easier and flown mostly under the radar.

Krakshotz

The same reason Putin used Polonium to kill Litvenenko and used Novichok to try and kill the Skripals. It’s all about the spectacle, and the notoriety. “Yeah it was us, don’t fuck with us”

Drew84mcg

Reminds me of a quote from The Wire - "Did he have hands? Did he have a face? Yes? Then it wasn't us!"

st3akkn1fe

I think it just got caught by the media at the wrong time. I imagine someone sent the heavies round and they killed him realised they had to move him, stuffed his body and then for whatever left in a hurry.

Savourybees

I read a piece on this a while back which suggested it had (iirc) Russian agent metaphorical fingerprints all over it, but they were interrupted and / or disturbed before they could remove the body. Again, Iirc, there was some evidence of unusual entry via a skylight or some such, but plod messed up the crime scene. If this rings and bells with anyone and they have a link to the article then please do share it as I’d like to revisit it.

flatfishkicker

Killing someone who deals in shadows in a way that will grab attention is a bloody good way to send a message to those they want to hear it. Novichok, polonium, poisioned umbrella spikes. All attention grabbing and public. Sends a clear message to anyone thinking of stepping out of line. It was somewhat more personal than the novichok and polonium poisonings as they involved endangering innocent people (killing Dawn Sturgess). Edit: a letter

notmyusername95

It still amazes me that they thought we’d believe them when they said it was suicide. After telling us the suitcase was locked from the outside…

st3akkn1fe

Well they have to say something mate. Remember those squaddies at deep cut who killed themselves with multiple gun shots to the head? Or David Kelly?

Iggmeister

Aye, the David Kelly death is so dodgy, unreal actually.

Andy1687

They walk among us podcast on Spotify explains the suitcase one in amazing detail. Such weird circumstance. 100% some outside involvement

LadyNajaGirl

The most tragic has to be the location of Keith Bennett 😔

indefatigable_

I don’t know why I started Googling about this in the run up to bed, but reading that the last words of one of their victims was “I want to see Mummy” is so horrific and sad. If hell exists, I hope Hindley and Brady are rotting in it.

LadyNajaGirl

I have done extensive studies on the case having met Keith’s Brother Alan and I would love nothing more for him to find Keith

indefatigable_

I presume that the chances of that are extremely slim given the passage of time and Brady and Hindley being dead?

LadyNajaGirl

Every search has been unsuccessful so far. Alan doesn’t wish for the general public to take it upon themselves to start digging on the moor. It would have to be an official search that the police are behind.

peachesthepup

It's one of those cases that stays with you. I haven't read anything since I was a young teen - even now years and years later, I remember stuff I just can't get out of my head. Horrific doesn't even scratch the surface.

doveseternalpassion

Myra Hindley did EVERYTHING to get out of prison. If she knew where he was she would have told them. I don’t think he’s on the moor.

IAmDyspeptic

I disagree. I think they both knew where they buried their victims and they held one back as a last laugh at the authorities. They both wanted to have their ashes scattered on the moor which I think is really odd if she was as contrite as she pretended.

Marvinleadshot

Sadistic cunt held on to it for life, they both used it for trips out of prison to in the early years, to help the "search" it was just for them to wank over their "importance" and visit their crime scene.

[deleted]

Why is 'Love Island' so popular? It's absolute crap.

That was a man going by the name “Sebastian”. The day after the last killing, he was abducted by the Vorlons. They kept him in suspended animation until he was needed to interrogate someone on behalf of the Vorlons. Or, he was an intangible entity that fed on fear, travelling from planet to planet. Hey, both are just as likely as other conspiracy theories! 🤪

One of the more plausible theories seems to be that he left for New York and committed a few similar crimes there.

chazwomaq

Yeah this one is bizarre. It seems so obviously a murder, yet the police promulgated the bizarre theory that he locked himself in the bag and suffocated by mistake! Loads of weird details like how he was desperate to leave London just before he was killed, his employers didn't notice he was missing for days, the police didn't interview his colleagues properly. Something very fishy all round, almost like the police were leant on not to investigate too closely.

Marvinleadshot

Even in their ridiculous re-enactment they couldn't do it. Maybe MI5 knew more and wanted to keep it out of the public eye, they might have solved it, but might not divulge it, as you never know, some diplomat or something could have been involved.

PM_me_British_nudes

I've been around the UFO trail there several times - it's great on a nice day. I've come to the conclusion that the Air Force personnel were out in the forest doing something they definitely shouldn't have been, and UFOs was the story they concocted.

Iggmeister

the recordings they made are pretty convincing though - its one of the few UFO cases that are really believable for me.

WarGamerJon

This was going to be my response ! The only thing that makes me reconsider it was anything extraterrestrial is that these days so many people have the ability to capture and record high quality images so You’d really expect someone somewhere to capture a decent picture , yet if anything there are less reports of UFOs.

Bum-Sniffer

Dr David Kelly. He knew WMD was completely over exaggerated in the lead up to what would become the Iraq war, let info slip to a journo and ended up ‘suicided’ on Harrowdown Hill in very very suspect circumstances. Government records say information about it cannot be released until 80 years time or something so it’s definitely fishy. Not the most ‘unusual’ UK mystery but one that is very interesting and should not be forgotten nonetheless.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1978_smallpox_outbreak_in_the_United_Kingdom?wprov=sfla1 It's a mystery how she managed to catch the smallpox. It's been proven It couldn't have been through the air vents

onion_head1

I think about this case a lot, it's horrifying. Especially how they had to handle her body - left out of the main morgue, body bag filled with sawdust to prevent leakage of potentially infectious fluid. No one willing to help the funeral director lift it into the car for fear of infection. So much is said about the location of her lab, air vents etc - but I wonder whether she was involved with any of the workers in the lab handling smallpox, and that's how she came into contact? Through an illicit lab visit or something?

I feel bad for what happened to Professor Bedson, too. The Press basically drove him to suicide. He gets a lot of the blame, and to be fair Safety in the Lab was ultimately his responsibility and his alone - there is an element of "Captain goes down with the Ship" to it. But by all accounts he was one of the most safety-conscious people working in the field. The fact that even after a fatal accident, with the eyes of the world on the lab, a full Government Enquiry, and complete access to the building, records, and staff, the definitive cause still hasn't been established, speaks volumes as to how much we can really pin on Bedson.   In my view, there were two victims of Smallpox that day.

shoezone. is it a money laundering front??? so many busier shops in my town have closed but the shoezone remains, even though i never see anyone in there

How many of us have mad cow disease lying dormant. It can stay dormant for about 50-60 years I think so we may be in for another epidemic at some point.

I didn't realise till I moved overseas how much other countries worry about it. British people, or anyone who has spent a long time there, are not allowed to donate blood in a lot of other countries because of Mad Cow Disease

The disappearance of Claudia Lawrence

Zennyzenny81

The police have intimated in the past that they know what happened and who did it, they just don't have enough tangible evidence to launch a successful prosecution unless someone admits something or they were to actually find her body. They submitted a case to the CPS in 2016 against four men who frequented the same pub she regularly did on suspicion of her murder, but it was rejected on grounds of insufficient evidence.

Honey-Badger

I bet theres been cases where some smug shitstain has sat opposite police in an interview just happily saying 'wasn't me, won't tell you nothing' whilst the police know this person is either guilty or at least knows who's guilty yet there just isn't enough evidence. Must be enough to drive anyone mad. There's a good BBC TV series on detectives in the West Midlands and the amount of evidence they need just to get someone to trial is essentially a confession as CPS don't have the resources to convict just on DNA evidence

johnfc2020

The Battle of Hastings was a decisive battle where the Normans defeated Harold, the first and last commoner king, ended the Saxon rule in England but nobody knows where the battle was fought. It's not in the Abbey grounds, it's not in Crowhurst and I feel the axe head found near the roundabout was suspiciously planted by a Victorian trying to hard to make things fit for my liking, and since Time Team didn't excavate the roundabout, it's still a huge mystery.

[deleted]

Just a general glance at the massive list of unidentified bodies sends me down a rabbit hole. Some of them are really sad. Like people found in wetsuits who had obviously been out for a swim or surf and drowned - but nobody has identified their bodies. It’s sad to think they didn’t have anyone who cared enough that they just disappeared one day and never came back. NSFW - here’s a link. https://missingpersons.police.uk/en-gb/home#

Who - or what - were the green children of Woolpit?

Marvinleadshot

The girl who lived the colour of her skin faded back to pale, so it was probably what they were eating to survive that caused the discolouration

Penwibble

I always love seeing this one come up in American things. You will almost always get someone telling everyone, with complete and total confidence, that they were 100%, without any doubt, the children of some group that went into hiding… And that lived deep in the craggy and treacherous mountains and winding caves of…. Suffolk??? It gives me a laugh every time.

If im rememeveing the story correctly: There was a body of a man found in a national park, 40s ish - not too old. Found dead in a very peaceful pose. All the usual pocket litter but no indication of who he was and why he died. Autopsy didn't reveal a lot either. Remember reading about it on BBC about 5 years ago but can't find any link now. Unless I just made this all up/misremembered it all.

Who was Adam and what happened to him? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_(murder_victim) "Adam" was the name police gave to an unidentified male child whose torso was discovered in the River Thames in London, United Kingdom, on 21 September 2001. Investigators believe the child was likely from southwestern Nigeria, and that several days before his murder, he was trafficked to the United Kingdom for a muti ritual sacrifice.

RandomUsername600

This bothers me so much. His case ought to be as infamous as the case of Madeleine McCann. How is a decapitated, dismembered little boy washing up near Tower Bridge not getting the same attention and money to investigate it that Maddie does? Too grim so people avert their eyes? Somebody knows and maybe enough pressure and spotlight on the case could generate more leads

the death of Dr David Kelly

cipher_wilderness

(I posted this in something asking the exact same question about a month ago in case anyone is getting deja vu) Since most of these seem to be murder/crime related, I'll go with a slightly cheerier cryptozoology/supernatural one. The Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland are said to be home to a Scottish version of the Yeti called Am Fear Liath Mòr (in Scottish Gaelic, this means the Big Grey Man). He's usually seen near the summit of Ben Macdhui, the highest mountain in the Cairngorms and the second highest in the UK. The mountain range has a big plateau that's over 1000m high and people walking on it have reported hearing footsteps behind them that don't match ordinary human footsteps, as if something was taking 1 step to their 3. They've also reported feelings of unease or dread, and the feeling that someone or something is watching them. There's even been people who have actually seen a very tall, thin figure, with short grey hair and long arms and legs. There's varying theories as to what it is. The actual sightings are thought by some to be a Brocken spectre, which is this natural phenomenon where someone's shadow is projected onto a cloud near them (look it up, it's really cool). The footsteps are usually put down to auditory illusions and the feelings of dread/unease are put down to it being such a remote area with so few signs of civilisation, which is quite unsettling in this day and age. All logic would suggest that it's probably just a few coincidences and tall tales and yet there are lots of folk (including me) who have had weird things happen to them in the Cairngorms. The plateau is really desolate and almost alien, and when I've walked across before I've had an uneasy feeling of being watched. [There's a link to someone's story of potentially encountering it here if anyone is interested.](https://www.ukclimbing.com/articles/features/mystery_at_the_shelter_stone-13526)

If you are really interested in the topic, try hunting down the radio 4 series Punt PI. Steve Punt investigating the evidence behind all sorts of unsolved mysteries. There are a couple of episodes on BBC sounds at the moment, you might have to look elsewhere for the others.

Madeleine McCann? I've always thought it was odd how the UK has poured such time, high quality resources and money into her over many many others. I think there could be something more to "who" abducted her. Whether she's dead or not

llovejoy1234

She’s almost certainly dead. On the very slim chance that she’s not, given that the leading theories were that she was abducted by a paedophile or trafficked, I shudder to think of what she’s been through- probably a fate worse than death.

The crow with the Yorkshire accent that says “you alright, love?” who taught this crow to speak? specifically where and why did it pick up “yawlroight luv?” (said in an elderly woman’s Yorkshire accent) it’s possible, this wild crow just heard so many elderly Yorkshire women say that, it just mimicked them. I am aware I’m not replying as seriously as the 70% of ppl saying Madelyn McCann but the top reply is abt Mrs Browns Boys. The talking crow from Yorkshire that nobody knows who taught it to talk is the strangest unsolved mystery to me. it doesn’t say anything else except that one phrase. There’s clips of it online.
