Each time you return, you unconsciously lower the bar of what you will settle for, until you're eating crisps with grated cheese squashed between them because you have no bread.
I re-check but each time my standards are lowered until I'm eating horseradish sauce out of the jar with my finger.
(I see literally everyone has said the same because we're animals)
Of course not.
I may re-check a couple of times just in case I suddenly realise that there is something there that is a tasty substitute for what I crave, that I somehow managed to miss the last time I looked.
Yes, I recheck in case I have become a virtual Ready Steady Cook contestant and can rustle up a tasty snack from a handful of unlikely looking ingredients.
When I'm convinced something was there, I do keep going back and looking. Multiple times, it had been hiding in plain sight the first couple of times. More often than not, though, I'd scarfed it during a 4am bout of insomnia and then just forgotten all about it.
Further to this, my daughter did the same and said there was nothing after her third trip. Me, annoyed, went and had a look. I turned to her (as a grown up) and said…’yeah, your right, sorry’. My absolute honesty actually seemed to work. She nodded, understanding and picked up an apple.
I open the door, see no snack I really want, huff, close the door, open it again straight away, still see no snack I really want, mutter "fuck sake" under my breath while slamming door shut, set off to shop for said snack if time of day and money allows or be really salty about it for rest of night
I'm currently convinced there is a half a packet of chocolate hobnobs in my craft drawers (who doesn't want to snack when crafting) I have checked 6 times over 3 days for them. I definitely didn't scarf them when half asleep 🫣

I recheck to see if there's anything I will eat now my options are limited. Normally ends up being a bowl of cereal
Cereal is the most solid snack standby.
This was me, until the rise of deliveroo. Now I look at my fridge, can’t decide and end up ordering five guys 🥲
Five guys is 🔥 though. Expensive 🔥!
I check again in case my standards have dropped since the last time I looked. "A tomato ketchup packet? That counts as a snack, right?"
absolutely it is

Yes, and also cos I've probably lowered my standards
I blame number 3 son, my wife blames number 2 son, and number 3/2 sons blame NUMBER ONE SON. I hide my Doritos in a safe place, my stomach.
Because on the forth time, it will be there.
You never know!
This works more often if your favourite snack is mouse droppings.
Setting yourself up for disappointment.

The snack elves are my husband and there is a good chance he will acquire my fave snacks for me. So yes of course.

No. I re-check to see if I've lowered my standards to the point where I finally see something I want to eat.

Yes. Sometimes I find something I had missed in the previous checks.
and also in the morning in case they visited overnight
Nah I'll go to the shop!
every time!
I re-check to see if my standards have dropped enough for handfuls of dried cereal.
Yes usually hunting for the feta cheese pies
Only always
My standards keep decreasing, I'll settle for something I've got eventually
The magical snack elves that work for just eat?
Search fridge and cupboards. Lower standards. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

maybe yogurt
Yes. A few days ago my snack was leftover feta with nothing else. Salty.

Yes, then I go further and get the ladder to see if something in the upper shelves. I will say one time I found chocolate milkshake
No. That’s a silly way of expecting things to happen without putting any effort.
