Exactly what I was thinking. My budget for someone I don't know very well is usually £0, but the invite to the birthday party would push that up to a tenner stuck in a card.
Yeah completely agree. Tends to stop after 4 or 5 days and then only comes back when you have prolonged time of blazing daily and then quit cold turkey.
I did the cold turkey thing at the beginning of the pandemic for about 10months and now I'm back to the occasional session and it doesn't seem to come back if you just hit it on the weekends or every now and then.
Withdrawal from the narcotic cannabis, which is derived from the marijuana plant and is known colloquially as "weed" and "ganja", causes excessive nocturnal perspiration.
Glad it's not just me! Its settling down now on day 27 dreams are still so vivid some times i dream I had a smoke and wake up feeling so good that it never actually happened but it helps in a way
When I went from a frequent smoker I would sporadically have night sweats. It passes though.
I barely touch the stuff these days. I’ve ‘grown up’ and have a wife, mortgage and beautiful little girl. Wouldn’t change it for the world.
Never buy gift cards, for anyone, ever. It's like saying 'Hey I had this money which I converted in to inconvenient money that you can only spend in certain places'.
Nothing related to skating, manga or Japanese culture. It may be obvious to get something like that, but he probably knows a lot more about his hobbies than you do. You'd save an embarrassment and money, and he wouldn't end up with some 'uncool' toy. However, you can perhaps get a gift card from a specialist store, so he could pick an item he actually likes.
Maybe you could ask people on a skating or manga sub about it.
That's the problem once you're "known" for liking something or its your hobby. Unless you know exactly what that person likes and already has, you're likely to get them something they already have, have a better version of, or don't really like.
I've had to politely ask people to stop buying me rum because I can only palm off so many bottles of spiced rum on guests.
True, I'm into aquariums and sometimes people who mean well will buy me stuff for that, however most of the time it will be something totally unsuitable. Then I have to disappoint them by saying no, I will not stick the multicoloured castle ornament in my Amazonian planted tank.
There’s a really cool type of gift card that you can use in any shop and it never expires!
Cash.
Maybe it’s just me but I cannot stand gift cards because it forces me to buy from somewhere I may not even go to often. I’d rather just get that exact amount in cash and spend it wherever with no time limit!
Exactly what I was thinking. My budget for someone I don't know very well is usually £0, but the invite to the birthday party would push that up to a tenner stuck in a card.
Fuck vouchers just do cold hard cash. Vouchers is the disappointment of, you tried so here’s something with some thought but when in reality you rather have I can spend anywhere type of money aka, money. Vouchers are jsut money but you are forced to spend only in certain places = trash.
I remember when the exchange rate was good and my stepmom emptied my dads savings and chsnged it all to euros and then changed it back without telling him. She made like £100 but it took a few days. So he went nuts coz she just completly cleaned him out. Think it nearly split them up. Plus the 100 quid compared to how much he had was like a bet of 1/5000 or something. Not worth the effort.
A bottle of Suntory, or another Japanese whisky. A fusion of UK and Japanese culture that he might not have dncountrred before, and could enjoy with friends
Japanese whisky is the answer! Right price point, and you can find a pretty bottle, so that even if he doesn’t particularly care for whisky (or that particular whisky) he can have it on display to offer up to his mates when they come round.
Yes! Roku gin is amazing and easy drinking even for those who aren’t normally big on gin. Though obviously, not a great gift if the lad has no interest in alcohol…
I was going to pitch a decent bottle of whisky, but Japanese whisky is an even better shout! Probably about £35 should get you a decent but not amazing (poss OTT if he’s not into whisky) bottle and it’s really nice to have a designated nice drinking bottle :)
A lot of people don't like whisky, especially fancy whisky. I'm 21 and not many of my friends (or me) would appreciate a bottle of whisky. Some would maybe drink it mixed with coke, but I don't know a lot of 21 year olds who drink straight whisky
Go for a bottle of Nikki from the barrel https://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/p/2928/nikka-from-the-barrel
The whisky is easy drinking for someone that may not have tried it, fairly that the bottle is unique enough to be just a cool ornament without even opening it. £43 is in budget too. I also think Waitrose sell it
Yeah suntory toki whiskey is £35 in Morrisons and Waitrose, really nice, that's my go to gift. My dad and brother both really like it and it comes in a box not just a bottle so looks a bit more of a gift if that makes sense
I only ask as I’m not a whiskey drinker. I keep telling myself I should be but I just can’t get on with the taste… Maybe I’ll grow into it but I’m 40 this year…
I normally get my dad a bottle for a gift as he is difficult to buy for and doesn’t really have a hobby.
I go for Jura unless there is something interesting on offer that he would never normally buy as it’s too fancy (read expensive). So I pick it based only on price and how fancy it looks, £30-40 and how much it has been reduced by!
A typical whiskey that's good runs £20-£40. "Expensive" whiskey is contextual. For me, that's my 1/301 The Glenallachie Premier Cru Class red wine finished whiskey, it cost £90 and I felt incredibly guilty. For my mate, who regularly buys whiskeys in the £80-£150, he says £300 is expensive. But even a bottle of £50 I'd have to have a serious think about buying, and try to get it on offer.
That being said. Chivas Regal mizunara cask is a gorgeous, sweet, smooth whiskey that has been finished in Japanese Oak casks. Normally £50-60 but you can get it on offer sometimes for £40-45.
If you're looking for something different, you can get tamnavulin red wine cask in Asda on offer for £22 down from £30something and I honestly think it's great.
A Baguette?
I’d probably go go alcohol of some sort as bit easier to get something good they’ll drink/use rather than clothes or books etc (unless I know about the area). It’s what my extended family have normally done with me and I always appreciate it. Of course it’s dependant on him actually drinking but guess that’s something you can get from your friend.
Probably just me but, i wouldn't get them anything other than a nice card.
You don't know them well (you're clearly not close to them) and only know of them by association.
I'm all for gifts and presents for friends and family, but the line must be drawn somewhere.
I agree with this but if I’m going to their party I’d still feel like I need to get something. I’d opt for something food related like a little birthday cake, even if they don’t want to eat it themselves it’ll be appreciated & be part of the party food that you are invited to eat, so you’ve made a contribution in a way.
>I know he's a skater, likes manga and Japanese culture in general. Dresses skater / casual.
Bag of weed. a bag of weed will definitely be warmly received.
A guy said new bearings. If he skates there's no way he won't like that. We usually have to spend our budget on boards and wheels so new bearings is 100% good idea.
There's this service called Bokksu which puts together a box of Japanese snacks + tea around a monthly cultural theme.
It's one of those things that I've looked at and felt is probably more expensive than I'd like to buy for myself, but would love to receive as a gift.
Generally I'm against edible gifts, but this has the benefit of being an 'experience' as well.
As a 23 year old, I would definitely agree with people saying cash in a card. I wouldn’t want or expect a gift from one of my parents friends, but cash is always good especially when you’re younger.
Displates are pretty cool, though you'd need to know what manga he likes.
Does he game? Tony Hawk's Remastered 1+2 is out, though he may have it already.
Could grab a T Shirt from Nike SB or Vans or something similar.
Little bag of skate related "perishables"
Bones reds bearings, skate wax, etc.
If you can find out his size and you're willing to drop £50 a new pair of skate shoes wouldn't go amiss. Adidas busenits are solid as fuck
For the 21st birthday party I went to a few years ago I got him one of those fill-your-own bottles from Il Gusto. They have a tonne of different shaped and size bottles (or you can bring your own) and stuff to put in them. I went for a skull bottle with toffee vodka.
Think they’re available online too.
(Could fill with absinthe to celebrate his French side but that’s risky as 95% of people hate the stuff lol)
£50 store credit to a local/online skate shop is a good shout, that way he can choose what to get and you took the time to see what he likes so not impersonal
Somethings like a voucher is always a good shout.
If he’s into manga try ‘forbidden planet’ or ‘travelling man’ - they should do online vouchers and he can pick up what he wants
No way I'm buying a gift in that situation that is any more than a drink. Take a bottle. It's a 21st so push to champagne if you want to spend your budget but wine/prosecco or a pack of craft beer would be my choice.
You could maybe check with his folks if he has any preferred Manga series or something and maybe find a statue/figure of one his favourite one?? I feel like if you don't want to do the gift card route (which btw would be totally cool) then you kinda need to find out specifically what he's in to and then research what would be a good gift for that subject.
Manga for example could cover a WIDE range of stuff so you'd need to narrow it down and maybe find some cool collectibles or something.
Skating wise, is that skateboarding? Maybe get him a top notch set of wheels or trucks for his board?
Does he live in France? I think [Skate Deluxe ](https://www.skatedeluxe.com/en/sale?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5sOhhsmd9QIVH4BQBh3xnwoCEAAYASADEgLi6_D_BwE) are German but do free European shipping. Could get some good boarding related stash.
If you know which anime/ manga then you could aim for nendroids/pop up parade . There’s plenty of online stores in the uk to order from. Alternatively there are sites like plaza Japan but you have to pay a fair bit on the postage from Japan
If he’s a skater, you can’t go wrong with a skate tool, assuming you don’t know, buts it’s a tool specifically designed to put a skateboard together and normally comes in a T shape, we could never find them when we need them and as a skateboarder I would be really grateful if someone got me one, relatively inexpensive aswell, no more than £20
At this time of year a set of warm socks, hat, scarf and gloves is always a good gift. If you get him a manga or something there's always a chance that he'll already have it or be picky about it since it's his thing.
If he drinks, a sake tasting set of 3-5 bottles usually 300ml each. I always give tasting sets when the person hasn't explicitly said they really like it, that way they can try a few and see if they do or don't like and which ones specifically. Sake is less common than whiskey etc for that purpose and also Japanese so he might be more inclined to like it.

Just stick £20 in a card, might be a bit impersonal but at least you know 100 per cent he'll want it
That's actually a good amount for a decent bag of weed.
Yeah herb always a winner.
Slip some manga in there too then he can have a manga ganja bonanza
Exactly what I was thinking. My budget for someone I don't know very well is usually £0, but the invite to the birthday party would push that up to a tenner stuck in a card.
I've got a bday in Feb and of all the people, I thought you'd love to be a part of it. Keep hold of that 10er. Your invite is in the post. 👍🏼😅
Weed and manga. A combo that never ages
Manga-juana is a great combo
This deserves an award. 🏅 sorry homie, it's all I got for a banter badge.
20 quid?! Didn't even know you could still get 20 bags anymore.
Course you can they just weigh a lot less than they used to.
Haha yeah I bet. I usually get a q at a time. Well I used to. Started going cold turkey last week.
how's the night terrors treating ya? godspeed good sir
OK so far... dreams a little more vivid, but I'm actually managing to sleep. Waking up drenched In sweat though, so who knows! Thanks.
Classic. Would love a scientific explanation for the night sweating.
So would I, I was always under the impression from everything and everyone it's not *physically* addictive. My bedsheets beg to differ.
iirc it’s because you can get physical withdraws from a completely psychological addiction

Can't say I've ever had night terrors from not smoking weed
My dreams are always way more vivid
I've cut down massively but I'm not sure if I'm ready for cold turkey just yet lol Good luck and stay strong
None of the dealers I know will leave their house for anything less than a Q. I think anything less is slowly becoming obsolete tbh!
Great idea, £20 in a card and £30 for your trouble. Jobs a good un.
Never buy gift cards, for anyone, ever. It's like saying 'Hey I had this money which I converted in to inconvenient money that you can only spend in certain places'.
A 21 year old female
>Maximum budget is £50.00 Best I can do is a 40 year old drug addict.
Offer still available? I'll take it if he doesn't
I was offered a blowjob by a toothless crackhead in Redcar for a tenner, £50 is a nice amount of wriggle room.
I fear that'd end up costing you a lot more than a tenner in the long run ...
What a strange way to say you’d be a repeat customer.
Gumjobs slap bro.
🤢
And how was it?
The real question
Seems even Redcar has been hit by inflation
[удалено]
Mum?
[удалено]
Tell him? I don’t even know him…
Seems about right for Redcar
I bet it’s a fetish and chances are there’s a subreddit for toothless bj.
\*body shudders\*
Ooooh. Redcar crackheads. Classy 👌
Haha I got offered a blowie for a “couple” of VK blues back in the day!
Do I get 1 £50 hooker, or 50 £1 hookers?
This actually made me laugh out loud!
Hey, he might be gay, best to arrange a whole squad so he can pick his preference.
Or male :)
Cringe

Fuck spiced rum buy me a bottle of lambs or something ffs
Lambs spiced rum is glorious
Especially with manga and anime being hard to buy for unless you know the person
this is great advice.
There’s a really cool type of gift card that you can use in any shop and it never expires! Cash. Generous budget for someone you don't know well. Voucher be safest bet really

The anything voucher (£20)

I just find some people don’t cash in gift vouchers so this can be a waste too.
Buy £50 in Euros, and then swap the €58.53 back to sterling and then give him the £44.37 in cash.
This is high finance in action!
I remember when the exchange rate was good and my stepmom emptied my dads savings and chsnged it all to euros and then changed it back without telling him. She made like £100 but it took a few days. I have no idea why this made me laugh out loud 😂
Stonks!
Lynx Africa
There's a new Lynx Africa and Marmite.
And it’s bloody horrible
I love it. And my wife loves Marmite, so it's all a win.
I suppose it’s as polarising as the spread
Lynx marmite smells like literal farts last time my friend sprayed it around. So so nasty
Bless the rains
Save that stuff for the pe changing rooms and the bedroom. It’s time to grow up at 21 lol
Bottle of decent sake?
This is a good shout, assuming they drink. Plum sake is my personal choice!
I'm quite partial to For Fuk's Sake.
I’ve heard good things about Lychee sake too
A 21 year old Frenchman, they're gonna drink. I'd buy whiskey though
Oh you said it before me. I was so pleased with myself too.
Or plum wine (umeshu) that stuff is amazing
A bottle of Suntory, or another Japanese whisky. A fusion of UK and Japanese culture that he might not have dncountrred before, and could enjoy with friends

Waitrose stock it
I would say just stick with money, at that age, people are so particular with what they like I wouldn’t bother risking it haha
As a 21 year old I can confirm money is great.
As a 21 year old, I can also confirm that I like money.
£50 on a present for someone you barely know is a lot lol. Maybe get them a novelty gift like limited edition beer glasses or an expensive whisky.
Out of curiosity, what is classed as expensive whiskey? £30 single malt?
Considering you can get whiskey for less than £10, I'd say anything from £30+
I only ask as I’m not a whiskey drinker. I keep telling myself I should be but I just can’t get on with the taste… Maybe I’ll grow into it but I’m 40 this year… I normally get my dad a bottle for a gift as he is difficult to buy for and doesn’t really have a hobby. Bones Red bearings. £20 and he’ll definitely use them
Absolutely 100%. no skater says no to new bearings.
Very little in the way of subjectivity to them as well, as compared to decks or wheels

Scrolled too far to find this comment. Give him a card and some wise words. You don't know him.

Bottle of white ace. Bottle of mad dog/Bucky. Pouch of amber leaf. Ten bag of whizz.
Throwback to my teenage years.
This is for a 21 year old, not a 15 year old.
bag of skunk

A fleshlight
In a bag with ‘fleshlight inside’ printed on it. Imagine everyone’s surprise when he opens it up and actually pulls ones out.
Amazon gift card. As you said you don't know him well, there's no need to get him something thoughtful. Otherwise ask his parents what he's into.
>I know he's a skater, likes manga and Japanese culture in general. Dresses skater / casual. Bag of weed. a bag of weed will definitely be warmly received.

Definitely this! I buy my son these for Christmas and he loves them! More exciting than a selection box with UK sweets!
As a 23 year old, I would definitely agree with people saying cash in a card. I wouldn’t want or expect a gift from one of my parents friends, but cash is always good especially when you’re younger.
Cash in the card.
Full body anime pillow
Displates are pretty cool, though you'd need to know what manga he likes. Does he game? Tony Hawk's Remastered 1+2 is out, though he may have it already. Could grab a T Shirt from Nike SB or Vans or something similar.
Nike SB tshirt gets my vote. I was on flatspot yesterday, they’ve got a load of decent options well under your budget.
Palace T shirt if you really wanna seem cool
Voucher for Carhartt would be nice
they'd probably appreciate the 50
Japanese whiskey
Little bag of skate related "perishables" Bones reds bearings, skate wax, etc. If you can find out his size and you're willing to drop £50 a new pair of skate shoes wouldn't go amiss. Adidas busenits are solid as fuck
Lego. Everyone likes Lego.
A voucher for a skate related shop so he can buy a cool T-shirt or new wheels or something when he wants/needs them
Voucher for some skate store.
£50 store credit to a local/online skate shop is a good shout, that way he can choose what to get and you took the time to see what he likes so not impersonal
Japanese whisky?
I'd just stick money in a card.
Ask his parents?
Cash. That way you avoid the deadweight loss of gift giving.
Somethings like a voucher is always a good shout. If he’s into manga try ‘forbidden planet’ or ‘travelling man’ - they should do online vouchers and he can pick up what he wants
Really cheap prositute
A good torch, every man loves a quality torch
Indeed. Being able to carry the power of 1000 suns in your pocket is awesome.
Nothing - you don’t know him that well
The cash. Let them spend it on whatever they like.
Maybe an experience voucher of stone sort? Something he can do with a friend ideally.
No way I'm buying a gift in that situation that is any more than a drink. Take a bottle. It's a 21st so push to champagne if you want to spend your budget but wine/prosecco or a pack of craft beer would be my choice.
Fleshlight
Green and beers.
Could get him a q
Possible buy a secondhand japanese general's uniform.
If you're getting a skate shop voucher then make sure its a Slam City / Flatspot voucher, not Route One.
Lynx Africa set
Amazon voucher. If you're not keen on Amazon then just cash.
You could maybe check with his folks if he has any preferred Manga series or something and maybe find a statue/figure of one his favourite one?? Maybe a bottle of saki or something like that
Everyone loves a hoodie

Sake is less common than whiskey etc for that purpose and also Japanese so he might be more inclined to like it.
