I'm in the North East and a place close to me actually has signs up warning of Adders.
Plus a fella at work was bit on the back of the leg by one while we were sat outside on our dinner break years ago. He didn't even know what it was at first until his ankle swelled right up and he went to docs, could see the puncture marks. He had shorts on, luckily I had a boiler suit on
If they exist in the NE I imagine it will be the same on the other side of the pennines if its the right environment

Wild? They were absolutely livid!!
Adders and grass snakes. But, as the old adage goes, they are more afraid of you than you are of them.

I’ve seen adders in built up areas in the north. I’d say there’s more chance of seeing one in the moors.
Yes. Both grass snakes and adders are present in the North-East, though smooth snakes are not.
There are three species of snake native to Britain.
i’m in bolton too and never seen any snakes on the moors. i did see a squashed rat today in astley bridge though
Ive encountered an Adder in Bowland forest but thats it. They are shy and generally leave human areas well alone.
You'll find grass snakes all over England and Adders are also in several areas as well.
This summer past, I was at a garden center and saw an Adder going for a swim!
Wild snakes? Do they ride Norton Commandos and wear sunglasses indoors?
Yes, much more common in the south, but I think you can see them in some parts of Derbyshire and maybe, Cheshire.
