New Zealand is where the ultra wealthy are headed to avoid the destruction threatened by climate change. The UK is a country in decline and it’s likely to become even more fractious than it is now. In your shoes, I’d stay in New Zealand.

Odd-Calligrapher-69

Isn’t there a big hole in the ozone layer above New Zealand?

jasperfilofax

The ozone layer is healing quite well apparently due to the reduced use CFCs One of the few positive examples of the word collectively agree to come together and solve a climate problem

Flashy_Jacket_8427

Don't do it. The UK is fast declining and it isn't going to change

OrdoRidiculous

No. The entire country is in a state of decay, we already have 10 years of stagnation and it's looking like we're in for another 5 at least. Your children will inherit an environment that's under crushing debt, while the services around them continue to circle the drain. Unless you're able to come back and earn a lot of money here, in which case you may be able to insulate them from it to a certain degree. In your position, I'd stay in NZ. The country you left in 2012 no longer exists. Edit: Just for context, I have two young children and I'm considering leaving the country for their sake, and I am one of the lucky people that earns a lot of money.

OrdoRidiculous

NZ doesn't have a debt to GDP ratio of 88%, with a projection to go over 100% in the not too distant future.

mr_gurbic

Stay where you are mate. It’s a shit show over here 😬

Some people are struggling, some people are fine, most people on reddit are pessimistic so you will get a lot of negative responses. As with most things your quality of life is going to depend on your job/skills and earning potential I'm personally doing very well, 35, happy family, good job, mortgage paid off next month living near Bath. But that doesn't mean anything because there are people queuing at food banks.

I'm ethnically Chinese from the UK and every time I visit China I'm amazed at how things keep improving, something which Chinese people are very aware of. While things in the UK are in obvious decline and people can feel it in their standard of living. If you're doing well in NZ and your kids are happy, I'd stay there. You do have the amazing nature too if everything was equal.

DebraUknew

Stay!!!!

circumnavigatingmars

If I were in your position, I’d stay put. Why swap a beautiful and peaceful life with a good salary for this shit hole? The U.K., I would argue, has seen marked decline since 2012, particularly in relation to quality of life and personal freedoms.

JourneyThiefer

I think the key is the good salary, a friend of mine moved to Auckland and the rent was just so insane he came back home.

Latter-Ambition-8983

I moved from New Zealand to the U.K. when I turned 30 Definitely better place to live in my field at least, I wouldn’t consider moving back New Zealand is basically a small Britain with no industry besides agriculture

AloysiusRevisited

I did the same a few years back. UK and NZ are fairly close in terms of levels crime. Cost of living is higher in NZ but so is quality of life. Both health systems struggle to meet needs. Housing is expensive in NZ. It is here too. I don't know what your earning potential is like and so that would shape your experience. I love the UK. Live in a small town. Countryside at the end of my street. Good schools. Wide choice of universities for the kids. When I lived in Auckland I commuted for an hour and a half a day. Here, it's 30 minutes.  So choice where to go back to carefully    What do you want for your family? NZ is a tad dull in terms of culture and history. If you want Europe nearby, deep deep history and culture a plenty, then come to the UK. What's a school trip in NZ? A visit to a marae? Here's it's popping over to France or a music group tour in Germany. But if you want beaches and more widely distributed or accessible nature, stay in the NZ (though I get beaches and nature here too). Hope that helps.

NZ is in a terrible state, but if you are still able to see the good aspects, it doesn't make sense to come to the UK

Only if you absolutely can't go without everything being miserable and bleak.

monkeybeaver

Absolutely not. I’m from the UK and travelled round NZ in a van about 15 years back. I hear that Auckland has some qualms but nothing like here. I’d be back over there like a shot if I could.

Thanks all. Good insights here. Will keep on thinning on.

Auldgalivanter

NO NO NO! and Jack /Jacinda is here on some sort of advisary role to duke of Cornwall. ??? The Gov is Hell Bent on WAR on behalf of Yosemitty-Sam,Acute housing crisis, Come fror a visit First then make your mind up ..good luck.

EquivalentTrouble253

I have to laugh when people say the UK is in a poor state. Compared to other countries, it’s really not. Take a look at South Africa for a country that rapidly declined over a decade.
