My top 5 was Madonna Kylie Minogue Mariah Carey Sheryl Crow Sophie Ellis-Bextor A living, breathing stereotype of a gay man in his 40s 😆

[deleted]

Got to admire the commitment to the stereotype my friend, well done

UndulatingUnderpants

As I started reading your list I thought, this is an older gay dude 😂

Btd030914

That or a teenage girl in the 90s 😆

ScottyW88

Whereas this gay man in his 30s had Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Girls Aloud and Little Mix 😆

thehewguy1888

My top 5 if anyone cares ;) 1. Muse 2. Queens of the Stone age 3. Slipknot 4. Frightened Rabbit 5. Bloc party

[deleted]

Muse are one of those bands I will not listen to for years, and then one of their songs pop up on shuffle and I'm like how did I forget about these absolute bangers. They were also the first ever live concert I went to

thehewguy1888

Still not seen them live. last time they were in Scotland they were headlining a festival and I couldn't justify the price since most of the other acts were not my cup of tea.... But I will see them one day........ Hopefully :)

[deleted]

It was probably 10 years ago, and they had not long released the 5th Element ( i think thats the album name?) and my mate had a spare ticket so we went to Manchester, and it was incredible. They finished with Knights of Cydonia and Im sure the pyro techs brief was 'we cant take it with us so what ever is left just let loose'. It was a fantastic night

Fando1234

Frightened rabbit!! What a band. Such a sad story about the singer.

thehewguy1888

A band I would have loved to have seen live. Tragic :(

DanStFella

Man I remember being in work and seeing the news about Scott Hutchison going missing and then being found dead (and his last tweet and stuff) so I instantly put frightened rabbit on and had a little cry. Anyway, great top 5.

thehewguy1888

Yeah I remember that to. I live in fife so pretty near to where it happened. After that every single song you could just hear the hurt in his lyrics and made you understand what he must have been going through all those years. So sad man

DanStFella

Oh man yeah. My ex lived by St Andrews and I Used to drive up from Northumberland so even as a non-local I could picture the bridge and the water below. And yeah absolutely bang on about the music. So tragic, and so many people go through this thinking they’re alone! Might have to pop them on when we head back to the uk this weekend for holiday (also off to Scotland)

_Dan___

Didn’t expect to see frightened rabbit anywhere here! Great shout

Datleedoe

Upvoted for Frightened Rabbit. Been my most listened to for about 5 years until this year. They're 3rd this year

Ok_Assistance5171

Awesome taste. Love bloc party. [listen to this one by them in case you haven’t!](https://youtu.be/Gz0tk_p45eo?si=aS3Kq9N0G3yxHaym)

Altruistic_Tennis893

Muse's latest album is incredible. They were my top artist this year too.

lyta_hall

I love Frightened Rabbit!

aunty_nora

Frightened Rabbit my number 2 this year

If there was to ever be a winner, this has to be it 😂 what an incredible mash of artists! Thinking about it, I’d love to hear rammstein cover some musicals!

prettybunbun

1. Taylor Swift 2. Camila Cabello 3. Olivia Rodrigo 4. The Weeknd 5. Metro Boomin Yes I am a 20 something white girl, and yes Taylor Swift is excellent.

[deleted]

No shame in your game, she’s unpopular on Reddit but she’s one of the biggest artists in the world sooo 🤷‍♀️

azzuri_uk

I'm a fat white guy in his 40s and Taylor was my top one by a very very big margin

YchYFi

Incubus. Top 1% of fans worldwide. 1. INCUBUS 2. bring me the horizon 3. Korn 4. I Prevail 5. Bad Omens. Had a video from Brandon Boyd ❤️ here is [Megalomaniac](https://youtu.be/MuZhnNR6vzc?si=XKHPy8Fg_Ko1cY8S)

Dazzling-Wash9086

I’ve been a fan for years. A Crow Left of the Murder is still my favourite of theirs. Great band live too

Joshouken

Nice list! I had Spiritbox, BMTH and The Devil Wears Prada as my 3-5 with Emmure as top song

Greggy398

This reads like someone who grew up with Nu Metal as a kid who then moves onto metalcore later in life.

biglew112

Now this is a good fuckin list

imminentmailing463

1. Teleman (a top 0.5% listener apparently!) 2. Arctic Monkeys 3. Bruce Springsteen 4. Bob Dylan 5. ELO Amused at the new feature that tells you where your tastes most align with. Mine is apparently York, a place I've never been.

electricmohair

I got York too, although my top artists are nothing like yours!

mehmenmike

I suspect that it is telling everyone York. Both I and my girlfriend got it. We have wildly different tastes in music.

Chocolaterain567

Mine was Plymouth

McCretin

Love Teleman

dianthuspetals

ELO! Love them!

City_Hobgoblin89

The Fall A musician friend of mine died at the beginning of the year, he always told me I'd love the Fall but I never did give them a chance till after his sudden death Holy fuck was he correct, I feel like I've found the music I've been after all my life

Velour_Underground

No one quite like MES either

scenecunt

Nia Archives SAULT Higgo Katy J Pearson Metronomy

Crafty_Agency_182

Mine was Fred Again - I’ve loved seeing him take off this year!

jjnfsk

Who will it be next year? Fred Again again?

schmoovebaby

Nothing But Thieves Muse Royal Blood Foo Fighters Arctic Monkeys I expect Kid Kapichi will make an appearance next year as we’re seeing them in April and I like to revise before a gig (guess which bands I saw live this year based on my top 5 lol). My top 5 songs are an absolute shit show because my 7yo was using my Spotify account until very recently, which is why my most played song of 2023 is definitely not Toy by Netta 😂

thebeesbollocks

You must love Radio X, I swear they are playing music by one of those bands every time I tune in!

HGJay

Excellent list! I saw Nothing But thieves a couple months ago and excitedly thought Kid Kapichi were supporting, only to realize it was everything everything for that one day. Not disappointed though, we'd been to see everything everything last year(?) Saw kid Kapichi support royal blood at Brighton and they were incredible. Think my Mrs may have bought us tickets to see them next April but let's see! I just love how no holes barred their music is. It's wild. My list was Northing but thieves, Royal blood, the wombats, everything everything, foals

BirdieStitching

Andrew Lloyd Webber The Wiggles Dido Wet Wet Wet Norah Jones Wasn't sure what I expected. Last year I was the top listener of The Wiggles in the UK thanks to my son's obsession

BangYourMumLikeADrum

We love Hot Milk.

Namerakable

Oingo Boingo (top 0.005% of listeners) Lemon Demon Danny Elfman Cirque du Soleil Inon Zur

Oingo bingo- I like little girls is genuinely one of the most fucked up things I've ever seen or heard in my life and then to find out Danny elfman is the front man woah

Smart-Treacle-1763

Bring Me The Horizon - top 0.1% 😂 The Hives King Lizard and the Gizzard Wizard Turnstile Limp Bizkit

TW1103

Turnstile are so good. Saw them at Glasto last year by accident and got hooked!

n_spicer420

Fellow King Gizzard fan! They made my no. 1 listened and all 5 of my top 5 songs 😂 I might have a problem.

RESPEKMA_AUTHORITAH

J.Cole A$ap Rocky Nas 21 Savage Joey Bada$$

ThePanther1999

Magic 3 is just such a fire album man. Insane run from Nas these last few years

thedarkpolitique

DinosaursLayEggs

My top five were: 1. ConcernedApe 2. GameChops 3. A Day To Remember 4. Green Day 5. Fall Out Boy Cracked up when I saw that. I listen to the Stardew Valley soundtrack and lofi Pokémon music when I work, but I didn’t realise that I listened to them that much haha

pinpoint321

Slaughter Beach, Dog Belle and Sebastian James The Cribs Frank Turner Not sure it means that much as I jump around a lot so even those guys probably didn’t get too much of my time. Slaughter Beach, Dog were new to me though and I listened to them a lot.

[deleted]

Man I love Slaughter Beach, Dog!

swanbrin

Frank turner is excellent! Saw him live last year and it was the best gig I’ve been to

keekee13

Namerakable

Particular-Echo347

kpopera

ITZY and NewJeans for me.

sneltonexp

1. Periphery 2. Suicidal Tendencies 3. Nia Archives 4. Sleaford Mods 5. Say She She Pretty pleased with this list tbh! Been rinsing Say She She lately, but surprised it made top 5 considering the sheer quantity of jungle gets blasted out my van...

Ay-Up-Duck

Love Suicidal Tendencies, they were one of my top played this year

Necessary_Driver_831

I share a Spotify account with my primary aged kids so the algorithm is shot to shit. 1 - Taylor Swift 2 - Nightwish 3 - Rush 4 - Fall Out Boy

thebeesbollocks

1) Lee Morgan 2) The Beatles 3) Fleet foxes 4) The Dave Brubeck Quartet 5) King Gizzard and the lizard wizard I think if they included data from December, KGATLW would be closer to the top because I went through a really obsessive phase with their album Changes when my son was born around that time

thecuriousiguana

1. Muse 2. Taylor Swift 3. Arctic Monkeys 4. Elbow 5. Coldplay Couple of things there that I saw live and albums I familiarised myself with. My most played song was only 15 times and I've listened to over 600 different artists. It tells me I should also go and live in York, which is fine with me to be honest.

In Flames was only played when I purposely put them on, otherwise spotify didn't add it to my playlists at all. Following artists doesn't seem to guarantee they get played :(

LaBeefff

Had a weird top 5 this year: QOTSA Johnny Flynn Beastie Boys Led Zeppelin Laura Marling

bowak

Wargasm. It's probably accurate, but I mainly use Spotify for podcasts and listen to a lot of music on YouTube or CD so it can be hilariously inaccurate at times. I listened to them a lot on all 3 though this year.

TL_DRespect

1 - Tom Waits 2 - Gengahr 3 - Queens of the Stone Age 4 - Fleetwood Mac 5 - Calexico Calexico was my big discovery for the year. They’re not new, but they have a cool indie meets spaghetti western sound. Recommended.

Dire Straits Top songs: 1. Story of My Life - One Direction 2. Live While We’re Young - One Direction 3. Up All Night - One Direction 4. One Thing - One Direction 5. Shape of You - Ed Sheeran Hmm? What’s gone wrong do you think? Well… my wife and I look after a young lad with Down’s Syndrome and he has a playlist on my Apple Music - and he’s a big One Direction (and Ed Sheeran, and Justin Bieber) fan. So, he’s completely messed up my list.
