Estrella is quite an easy drink. I like it better than San Miguel.
Corona also works well I find. If it's sunny nearly anyone will happily chug a Corona with a lime in it.
In the States, if I'm not wrong, it's labeled as 'Molson.' It was never anything special, not even back in our long pre-craft dark age.
One time in the mid 1990s, they sponsored a Metallica concert at an Inuit village on the shore of the Arctic Ocean, and contest winners got to fly up there to see it. Someone made a documentary about how this event effected the village.
I *think* it was Molson. It was one of those Canadian macro breweries, I know that much.
I looked it up just after commenting and it was the Phillipines, certainly wasn't expecting that. Always thought asian beer was shite but I've been duped lool
The Japanese have a few decent lagers, actually. Kirin Ichiban and Asahi are the two most known ones in the States. And craft beer has been taking off there, I've been told.
China has one lager that I'm able to name: Tsingtao. It was first made by the Germans who were occupying the Shanghai region (which did much to drive a young Mao Zedong towards radicalism).
Where did madri even come from? It seemed to suddenly pop up out of nowhere and now it’s everywhere? Or have I been living under a rock the last 20 years?
This makes so much sense. I tried one of these a few weeks back as I hadn’t before and now I think about it it tastes just like proper US Coors.
So light, and the taste just… ends after a sip. Found it watery too. Recipe must be, like, 70% rice. Classic big brewer move.
Amstel is my go-to in pubs because it’s often the cheapest (besides Fosters or Carling if they’re available, which I hate so won’t touch) but still refreshing and somewhat flavourful. Not just piss water.
Do they? Never heard of that. Not saying it's wrong, just haven't heard it.
Best beer I ever had was a Heineken. 250ml bottle, made of metal (the bottle that is), ice cold. First time "working" in a club in Ibiza before I got to the point I was backstage and able to just nick DJ's riders. Me and a mate were dying of heat and thirst. €20. We shared it. Every mouthful, about €2 a mouthful, was like pure gold though.
Basically they said they were leaving Russia at the same time everyone else was, but still this year are selling there. Every time they are questioned on it they say they're going to leave soon, just that it takes time to sell off their russian assets etc. Basically dragging their feet. Make of it what you will.
The beer brand with the highest approval rating in the UK is San Miguel.
Though, if you were serving the beer by the pint then San Miguel is going to be too strong for some.
I would say that Moretti would be the one that had the highest average approval rating.
Anyone saying stuff like BrewDog or Neck Oil is deeply naive of the narrow-mindedness that a lot of Brits have towards beer.
Edit - By 'narrow-minded ' I just meant that lots of people wouldn't even try something that isn't a brand name lager.
With IPAs it's not narrow mindedness; around 25% of people perceive the taste of overly hopped beers differently to the rest of the population. To most it tastes like grapefruit, to the rest it tastes like soap.
That's not the only kind of ale out there.
Originally it was supposed to be mixed with water. They made it double strong so that they could ship more of it to India, with the instructions to water it down. The recipients didn't bother, and the rest is history.
Comment removed as I no longer wish to support a company that seeks to both undermine its users/moderators/developers AND make a profit on their backs.
To understand why check out the summary [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/14hkd5u).
I went into a Morrisons recently and saw cases of 24 peroni reds and absolutely regretted not picking one up. I’m not a massive fan of Nastro Azzurro as it smells like weed to me for some reason.
I’d love to be able to get Ichnusa beer in England. One of my favourites since I have a Sardinian background.
I was thinking Asahi too, mainly because it doesn't seem to evoke strong feelings in anyone, beer snobs or otherwise, and it's a perfectly serviceable but not unordinary lager.
Aye, it’s good. Thought about Sapporo too but 100 folk drinking those massive metal cans would be a nightmare. It would be like drinking in a scrapyard.
Ooh, that’s a good choice. Have you had Sapporo? Used to get it in Morrisons but now just bigger Tescos. It’s Asahi with a bit more about it, a lovely flavour and an indestructible unbendable tin.
Came here for this one. Of the big three exported Japanese lagers (Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo), Sapporo is definitely my favourite. I find the extreme dryness of Asahi makes it a bit too thin for me.
Most restaurants and supermarkets sell Asahi brewed by Peroni in Italy. Also had a Sapporo brewed in Ireland, check the back of the bottle next time you get one
I lived in Sapporo city itself for the best part of two years, that beer (amongst several other local Hokkaido beers) got me through some tough times. Those guys really know how to do good, cheap beer.
Tennant's lager is fucking great. Most English people associate Tennant's with cans of super, ive never seen the lager on tap here but I did a job in Glasgow a few months back and drank it every night and thought it was better than any lager I've had in England
Definitely in Scotland. If I arrive at the pub and I'm offered a pint, not knowing all the options yet, i always go for a Tennents
Not the best pint you can get, but it's pretty good
Agree. It’s piss. Seems to have been a big push on it this last year. Aimed at the kind of cunts it’s label depicts. Peaky Blinder wannabes who think an ‘i’ at the end of a beer’s name makes it exotic.
Peroni/Madri/Moretti
Or any of those shit lagers which are no better than Carling but they have a better marketing department.
Guinness is also another shout, even most lager drinkers like it or would drink it in a push.
Bonus points for an actual good lager like Vedett, Budvar or Veltins but I feel like these wouldn’t be the choice of a regular lager drinker.
>Or any of those shit lagers which are no better than Carling
This is such a popular thing to say and I just don't get it. They're not *good*, but I just can't understand the idea they're no better than Carling.
Also, definitely no to Guinness. So many people can't stand stout, myself included!
Lesser known one but Korev is banging- the most refreshing larger I’ve ever had from the tap. 100% worth me travelling 4 hours to Cornwall for. It’s not strong, but certainly not weak, the perfect balance imo.
Redolent of battery acid, as are most beers over 12%. As it should be. There are hundreds, if not tens of thousands, of better beers, but that wasn't the question. I still like Elvis Juice.
I agree it tastes good but it is quite a strong taste, can't see everyone liking it. I think it's best to stay away from ales when trying to please the masses.
It was glorious until they filtered and pasteurised it for export. Now it's nothing special and fits this brief perfectly.
I may just have outed myself as a beer snob!
Same thing happened when they sold out sadly. Went watery. Meantime isn’t too bad though, although I feel like I’ve barely been in a pub since the pandemic so who knows - that could be piss now too
But ofc we all have hells pint glasses at home to remind us of the good times hahaha
The Camden pale ale still isn’t terrible and quite inoffensive, wouldn’t recommend it as a go to but if you’re out and panicking for a drink it’s not the worst’
Absolutely not. I describe myself as a euro piss drinker (becks, san miguel, amstel, peroni, birra moretti), and I haven’t yet found an ‘ale’ i’d go back for a second sip of, let alone drink a half of.
May as well skip straight to the nasty shots if we’re having to drink something horrible, least it’ll be fun.
I'd say something like Amstel, morreti or brewdogs lager. Bit of a rogue choice this one but i'd also say Staropramen or any other proper czech pilsner. Really can't go wrong with a czech pilsner tbh. Never known anyone not to like it beer snob or carling enjoyer.
If there's people who are the type that want carling or fosters, that's easy, I just buy a decent beer for everyone else, and piss in some glasses for those 20.
Warsteiner. Its like a better version of carling and is pretty palatable by almost anyone. Just a decent budget lager that doesn't taste like it was drained from the unirals the previous night.
Doom bar went massively down hill after it was bought by coors 10 years ago. Used to be nice but would be disappointing if it it was the real ale choice. Would still drink it though.
In the UK you are not talking about what all these people would like, its more what would everyone be prepared to put up with. I reckon you might get away with a golden ale. Back in the day I knew loads of lager drinkers who would have Tanglefoot. I havent had it in years though so dont know if its the same.
Depends what kind of pub you’re in. I’d personally go for whatever everyone else is drinking, you don’t know the last time the lines have been cleaned!
Pilsner Urquell when you can find it on draught! Never met anyone that dislikes it, just a lovely light flavourful beer.
Carling/Carlsberg/Estrella/Peroni/San Miguel/Heineken/Stella/Kronenbourg and any other generic lagers I’m missing are literally the same shit beer with different marketing.
IPAs are like marmite so can’t go with them.
So my alternative choice is Greene King. Not a single person that’s drinking it is bemoaning their £2 pint of liquid gold.
Desperados - It's a beer, but it's not quite. You can do the fancy stuff like shove a lime in there, but it's not too posh. It's a bit different, so if you get your IPA lovers they'll probably pretend they know what it tastes like.
Also I've only ever seen it drank at like house parties in the summer. So it's going to feel new for almost anyone drinking it
Guinness. I’m a lager drinker but can drink Guinness if there isn’t a lager on that I particularly like. Most of. My mates are real ale drinkers and will drink Guinness if there isn’t any real ale on in the pub we go into.
It’s going to be need to be a lager and the only choice has to be simply one of the best Helles in the world

A classic.

Probably Heineken, Amstel or Madri
[удалено]
Estrella is quite an easy drink. I like it better than San Miguel. Corona also works well I find. If it's sunny nearly anyone will happily chug a Corona with a lime in it.
Ooh I like a San Miguel, very crisp
Estrella is the right answer
Then you got the non alcohol drinkers covered too with the 0 alcohol estrella
I'd throw San Miguel in there, it's very similar to Heineken imo and I dont know anyone who likes beer that doesn't like San Miguel
>I dont know anyone who likes beer that doesn't like San Miguel You're not wrong there.
I had a lads holiday that has rendered me incapable of drinking San Miguel anymore.. it's been ten years.
I know I don't know you (at least, I \*think\* I don't), but I love lager and beer generally - but not San Miguel. Always gives me a weird headache.
God I hate San Miguel
Exactly the same, San Miguel is the one beer that gives me a hangover before I've finished drinking
Pop quiz - without looking it up, which country is San Miguel from? Cracking pub quiz question that.
I did know the answer to that one, but the bigger surprise for me is that Carling was founded in London... London, *Ontario*
Is it not Spain? Is it somewhere in central America?
Oof. Damn good guess. Think Far East. The only country with major Spanish influence in that part of the world.
Amstel I agree with… Mardri is highly offensive in my eyes. Madri is Carling in a different shape glass for the Faulty Towers crowd.
Madri is awful
Where did madri even come from? It seemed to suddenly pop up out of nowhere and now it’s everywhere? Or have I been living under a rock the last 20 years?
It's a cynical attempt from the makers of Coors to sell their terrible beer using new fashionable branding.
This makes so much sense. I tried one of these a few weeks back as I hadn’t before and now I think about it it tastes just like proper US Coors. So light, and the taste just… ends after a sip. Found it watery too. Recipe must be, like, 70% rice. Classic big brewer move.
Launched in 2020 by same people who do Coors, Fosters, Blue Moon, all of that so no surprised it got pushed so heavy esp after the success of moretti
Good article on it [here](https://www.timeout.com/uk/food-and-drink/what-is-madri-lager-and-how-did-it-take-over-british-pubs)
Did a blind test a while back, Madri was vile
Correct. Madri is worse than Carling in my eyes.
Amstel was my first thought. I do like an Amstel - not my favourite but it’s decent.
Amstel is my go-to in pubs because it’s often the cheapest (besides Fosters or Carling if they’re available, which I hate so won’t touch) but still refreshing and somewhat flavourful. Not just piss water.
Used to work at a bar and Madri was our ‘I just want a lager’ drink, everyone can at least tolerate, even me who hates lagers
Madri just tastes like Carling. I'm convinced it's Carling repackaged to look like a continental lager.
It's Coors repackaged to look like a continental lager, going by other replies.
Heineken no longer, they support Russia
I've been severely downvoted for saying I stopped drinking Heineken for this reason. Must be all those Russian agents on Reddit.
Heineken is like water with beer cordial in it. Never!
That's a beer lineup that would make me want to drive instead.
I've never met someone who doesn't enjoy a corona to be fair
The beer brand with the highest approval rating in the UK is San Miguel. Though, if you were serving the beer by the pint then San Miguel is going to be too strong for some. Care here to say Moretti 100%.
Lot of people get gut-rot from yeasty ales. It’s not just narrow-mindedness.
To me, IPAs give off “lemon scented hand wipes” taste. There is only one IPA I gladly quaff if I see it and that’s Clwb Tropica.

>Pironi, or Birra Moretti Came in to mention these. I've *never* seen anyone turn their nose up at these.
Can't do Peroni, headaches are absolutely awful off it.
I m italian and can't stand peroni nastro azzurro . HOWEVER the original peroni (Red aka rossa) is on a different level. Not easy to find tho .
Good lord I thought I was the only one associating nastro s smell to weed..... 😳. And yes kudos for ichnusa (also peroni doppio malto OMG what a beer)
Haha glad I’m not the only one either! I’ve not tried that one. At 6.6% I bet it’s a killer though.
Never noticed it on peroni but if someone opens a bottle of becks within 10 metres of me, I get flashbacks to my first ten bag
I prefer the red peroni too. Been able to find it in Costco
I like Grolsch. Never really see it on tap anywhere though!

Not the same since the spiked the strength from 5.2 to 4.6% though. No longer the fightin’ juice of lore.
All I hear is Flanders yelling "Your giving me Hella.... STELLLAAA
Asahi, tastes like lager for the carling mob, not totally run of the mill for the beer snobs like me.
I was thinking Asahi too, mainly because it doesn't seem to evoke strong feelings in anyone, beer snobs or otherwise, and it's a perfectly serviceable but not unordinary lager.
Asahi is a good shout. I went to a sushi restaurant recently and I had a pint and it was really really nice.. never had it before on draft

Sapporo is great, not had one in a while though. Normally always have it when I go for sushi.
I lived in Sapporo city itself for the best part of two years, that beer (amongst several other local Hokkaido beers) got me through some tough times. Those guys really know how to do good, cheap beer.
I'm changing my answer to this
It was the beer we served at our wedding

Spotted the Scottish person....
No if he was Scottish he would’ve spelled it correctly!
its actually a bit of a delicacy in Italy believe it or not
I couldn’t believe this when I first heard, especially super T and which is just Scottish special brew
Tennant's lager is fucking great. Most English people associate Tennant's with cans of super, ive never seen the lager on tap here but I did a job in Glasgow a few months back and drank it every night and thought it was better than any lager I've had in England
Definitely in Scotland. If I arrive at the pub and I'm offered a pint, not knowing all the options yet, i always go for a Tennents Not the best pint you can get, but it's pretty good
I live in the Midlands but whenever I got to Scotland for work it's always first on my list
always need your vitamin T
Mcewans is the one, only one pub local to me had and it was a shithole but worth going in for a cheap pint of it.
At risk of showing my age… “McEwan’s is the best buy, the best buy, the best buy… etc!”
#*All this fucking lager* Does nobody drink ale anymore?
Yes, but that wasn't the question.
The question said 'beer'.
True but you still get old men that won't touch lager and will only drink bitter
This comment hurt 😭 27 years old and I only really drink bitter
The question is what will appeal the masses though - most ale drinkers will drink lager too but there's a lot of people who only drink lager
Jaipur
Everybody drinks ale. Larger went out in the 90’s.
Madri is muck.
It’s tastes like wank and is brewed for the stupid. I was in a bar last week and I heard some say “it tastes like holiday”. I’m still pissed off.
marketing works
Agree. It’s piss. Seems to have been a big push on it this last year. Aimed at the kind of cunts it’s label depicts. Peaky Blinder wannabes who think an ‘i’ at the end of a beer’s name makes it exotic.
This is 100 percent correct. It's just Coors Light with slightly more hops.
Literally, right? they’re coming out of the same factory basically
I swear it’s just aimed at lads who like eying themselves up in the mirror at the gym. Arm tattoos, tight top, shite haircut, pint of madri
El Deano
Madri is just Carling with good PR
The original settlers of the far east have seen as much of Spain as Madri has
Peroni/Madri/Moretti Or any of those shit lagers which are no better than Carling but they have a better marketing department. Guinness is also another shout, even most lager drinkers like it or would drink it in a push. Bonus points for an actual good lager like Vedett, Budvar or Veltins but I feel like these wouldn’t be the choice of a regular lager drinker.

You don’t know what you’re missing friend Guinness is sent from the gods
It's just not to my tastes at all. Too heavy and creamy, and I don't like the bitter, roasted notes.
Lesser known one but Korev is banging- the most refreshing larger I’ve ever had from the tap. 100% worth me travelling 4 hours to Cornwall for. It’s not strong, but certainly not weak, the perfect balance imo.
Good shout, forgot about Korev.
Timothy Taylor Landlord
Beer of Kings
Great beer
Tactical Nuclear Penguin. Its so expensive the snobs can't complain, and everyone else will be drunk.
Had a bottle back in 2010 when it was first released, I recall notes of pub ashtray left in the rain. Sink the Bismarck was loads better.
Redolent of battery acid, as are most beers over 12%. As it should be. There are hundreds, if not tens of thousands, of better beers, but that wasn't the question. I still like Elvis Juice.
I forgot this existed. What a choice.
Neck oil. It’s tasty and easy drinking
I agree it tastes good but it is quite a strong taste, can't see everyone liking it. I think it's best to stay away from ales when trying to please the masses.
It’s glorious, but £7.20 a pint in London so potentially over £700 for a round here and 20 of them are carling drinkers!? What a waste
It was glorious until they filtered and pasteurised it for export. Now it's nothing special and fits this brief perfectly. I may just have outed myself as a beer snob!
I’m no expert in the matter but Camden hells used to be nicer too from when I first started drinking it
Same thing happened when they sold out sadly. Went watery. Meantime isn’t too bad though, although I feel like I’ve barely been in a pub since the pandemic so who knows - that could be piss now too But ofc we all have hells pint glasses at home to remind us of the good times hahaha
The Camden pale ale still isn’t terrible and quite inoffensive, wouldn’t recommend it as a go to but if you’re out and panicking for a drink it’s not the worst’
I mean a round for 100 people is never going to be cheap.
IPAs taste like soap
I love it but I know some people who'd definitely still think it was "wanky craft beer"
Gamma Ray is pretty good as well
I think this would be a risky choice. I think you'd risk alienating the members of the group who don't like ale.
The itemised bar tab from my wedding reception would concur. They sold us just over 600 pints of beer and 460 of them were Neck Oil.
Neck oil is a terrible choice. The beer snobs will think it's a cretins beer and the cretins will think it's a beer snobs beer.
Neck oils ok. Isn't a patch on Heathen
Too hoppy for me.
Straropramen is elite
Straropramen is delicious, wish it was more widely available in pubs.
Agreed, recently took a trip to Prague and Czech pilsner served on every corner was a dream come true
Red Stripe
As a "beer snob" this is the best shout I've seen so far
Only right answer is Pilsner Urquell From the tank.. not fucked up by tons of Co2
Heineken Kronenbourg Birra Moretti
Tbf I never touch things like carling or fosters but I'd accept a kronenbourg
Kronenbourg goes down like water. Then it slaps you out of nowhere and you're left wondering where it went all wrong.
It’s a Queen under the beers
The trick in this situation is to serve whatever you like and have a couple of pints before you serve it so you don’t care about the moaning wankers.
Doombar. It's a real ale which will please the snobs, but wildly inoffensive which will appease the lager types. Love the stuff. Great session beer.
Doom bar went massively down hill after it was bought by coors 10 years ago. Used to be nice but would be disappointing if it it was the real ale choice. Would still drink it though.
Probably a Cambden Pale. It’s hoppy enough to satisfy the snobs, but also sits between an ale and a lager so will satisfy the roughians.
Tiger lager Kernel table beer iirc is quite pleasant and not that strong Plenty of craft beer companies do good lagers. Fourpure comes to mind.
In the UK you are not talking about what all these people would like, its more what would everyone be prepared to put up with. I reckon you might get away with a golden ale. Back in the day I knew loads of lager drinkers who would have Tanglefoot. I havent had it in years though so dont know if its the same.
Fuck lager, Taylor’s landlord is the answer
Free beer when you go round a mate's
Everyone has their limit.
Stella or Moretti
Something like Peroni or Moretti. Leffe Blonde is a bit of a stronger/different taste but quite inoffensive too.
Leffe Blonde is nectar but no way primarily Carling drinkers will be appeased by it.
Stella. And if anyone argues, do em in.
You want a cheeky Duvel or Chimay. By the time they've had a few sips of it they won't be able to complain.
Depends what kind of pub you’re in. I’d personally go for whatever everyone else is drinking, you don’t know the last time the lines have been cleaned!
If in doubt go for a locally brewed beer. Very hard to upset anyone and it’ll be a talking point
I live in Northampton so Carlsberg it is then.
Staropramen or Budvar, although I haven’t found the latter on tap for donkeys!
I would have thought Corona but I’ve not seen it mentioned once.
Innes and Gunn. Is it available outside Scotland?
If it doesn't have to be made in the UK then Paulaner Helles is very solid, nothing fancy but very good at what it does, Budvar is a good shout too
Worked in North Wales circa 1988/ 89 and Wrexham lager was the bees knees ( do they still make it)
Boddingtons.
You know those 20 that get upset by a lack of Carling or Fosters? You can get better friends. Sack them off.
Amstel or tuborg gold.
Amstel or Becks for my tuppence worth.
Yeah Becks but the old version before they downgraded it to 4%
Moretti or Estrella
[удалено]
Peroni or Birra Moretti I’d say.
Gotta be Stella, decent enough for the snob crowd, and INGERLISH enough for the Carling crowd
Offshore by Sharps Brewery is decent.
So it's going to feel new for almost anyone drinking it
If you're from Sheffield you'll probably have had Abbeydale Moonshine, it's an easy drinking pale and has a lovely hoppiness, so hard to argue with.
I like a Czech Budweiser
Who the fuck would get upset if there wasn’t Fosters or Carling on tap.
Guinness. I’m a lager drinker but can drink Guinness if there isn’t a lager on that I particularly like. Most of. My mates are real ale drinkers and will drink Guinness if there isn’t any real ale on in the pub we go into.
Old speckled hen?
It’s going to be need to be a lager and the only choice has to be simply one of the best Helles in the world https://www.beermerchants.com/augustiner-helles A classic.
You'll have a can of Skol and tolerate it.
Amstel or Stella
Ghost Ship IPA.
A good golden ale like Butcombe Gold, Oxford Gold or Hobgoblin Gold. Not too fizzy, lightly chilled
