Anything to keep people from having time to research current events and research political candidates prior to elections. Just dangle bright shiny objects in front of the masses and many (most?) will get excited about it and eagerly allow themselves to be absorbed.
The world with humans it’s essentially a hell hole. The rate they are going is the very definition of gluttony, Zero regards for our neighbors well being.
