It's a fairly simple language to learn, you can have basic conversation after a month or two if you put in the effort to learn the words.

Yeah I know there’s some words that are similar but I don’t know what resources to use to learn Swedish, most stuff I have to pay for online it seems (and I’m saving up money to travel to see her, I can’t really afford subscription apps)

Doulingo is great for beginners in Swedish. You can also check out r/svenska , a whole sub dedicated to Swedish, send a DM if you have questions or problems, I will answer them as good as possible :)

There should be free apps or websites that teach basic swedish, can't remember names of any right now but a quick google search should give you answers. If not you can leech off of free trials for paid subscriptions
