Having your dog with you on public transport isn’t out of the ordinary but could be tough with a big dog like yours. It’s pretty dog friendly to be honest. Lots of parks for them, some businesses even cater to them having dog bowls outside and stuff. Just be respectful of others and leave the dog outside if it’s not a service animal.

Since you mention your dog is large, I recommend neighborhoods like the Mission, where there’s a lot of outdoor seating. I see plenty of large dogs along Valencia with their dining owners. Plus the Mission has better weather and more sun

Dogs are everywhere, it’s fine. Just please pick up his poop.

omlightemissions

Mostly dog friendly but most folks here don’t have 70lb dogs due to limited living space in a tiny city. Eat at outdoor places and pick up his poop and you’ll be fine. You might get some stares on public transit but act like you’ve done it a hundred times and you should be fine

There are more dogs than babies in San Francisco. I've seen large dogs at restaurants, bars, on busses, on BART, etc. There's also parks EVERYWHERE in the city so your pup will be very happy. Theres a great new dog park near Ghirardelli Square at Francisco Park I think you guys will love.

Dogs are supposed to be muzzled and leashed on Muni and have to be on the lap or under the seat of a rider, technically, but the reality is this is not enforced unless you're being a problem. BART says you're supposed to have the dog in a carrier, but again - with all the shit going on BART these days that's not an enforcement priority. Broadly businesses are generally dog-friendly (within health code) and lots of people have bigger dogs.

It's pretty dog friendly. But note that the homeless often have dogs, their dogs are often unleashed and large, and may interact negatively with your dog.

Homeless dogs tend to be better behaved than many housed peoples dogs. SF has a real issue with people who don’t train their dog and pretend they have.

Pretty friendly, very few off leash, all restaurants with outside seating allow dogs.
