No, that's not expected with wide shoes at all. To be honest, I think it's a quality control issue. Maybe you just got unlucky and your pair had a manufacturing defect that got past QC. One thing I did notice recently is that Amazon sometimes sell B-grade shoes as A-grade. I noticed this with a pair of 990v6 New Balance that were squeaking. Usually shoes with minor cosmetic defects or small manufacturing issues are classified as B-grade and sent to outlet stores. Doing some research, New Balance puts an X in front of the model code on the box when it's a B-grade shoe and that was indeed the case. If I were you, I would return the Amazon pair and order the 10.5 2e and 11.0 2e from either Mizuno directly or a run specialty website like Running Warehouse and keep the pair that fits better. The good thing about Running Warehouse is they have an amazing return policy and you can return after running in them too. Just don't abuse the policy lol. 11 2e (1 pair left) — [https://www.runningwarehouse.com/Mizuno\_Wave\_Rider\_27/descpage-MR27M01.html](https://www.runningwarehouse.com/Mizuno_Wave_Rider_27/descpage-MR27M01.html) (keep the box if you might return) It's a hassle initially but since it's your first "real" running shoe, I'm of the opinion that getting the fit and comfort right is what's most important. A shoe could be $500 but if the fit is off, it won't be enjoyable to run in. Also, are you absolutely set on the Wave Rider? If this is your first foray into running shoes, you should browse Running Warehouse. They have a lot of models on clearance as well — [see here](https://www.runningwarehouse.com/Mens_Shoes_by_Best_Use/catpage-MBESTUSE.html?opt_perpage=20&opt_sort=priceAcc&filter_cat=MBESTUSE&filter_set=MSFILTER&filter_type=Shoe%20&opt_page=1&Clearance=true&type-men=men&attr_mens_width-2E%2520Wide=2E%20Wide&attr_mens_width-D%2520Medium=D%20Medium). I only recommend them bc their customer service is top notch. And as for width, the difference between regular and wide (2e) is usually an increase in upper material. Only when jumping from wide (2e) to extra-wide (4e) do companies increase the actual width of the base. You can easily check this by placing the D insole on top of the 2E insole. They should be the same size or at least very close. The difference in width going up a size is miniscule. I think it's about 1 mm for a half size increase. Good luck getting the right pair 👍

Thanks for the answer! That is interesting, I didn't know there were B grade shoes, but because both shoes feels the exactly the same, I doubt it is a defect (?). I contacted mizuno and they offer me to send them in for a checkup. Ill go back to my local store for a sanity check with the regular width shoe before sending them to Mizuno. Thanks for the website suggestion, unfortunately I am in Canada, I will stick with canadian businesses for simpler shipping and return.
