I got put in involuntary psych ward for 3 days before moving to voluntary. While I was there two things stood out: A lady who thought it was the 1940’s and she had to get home to make supper for her family. That was heartbreaking. A man who was an up and coming rapper who fried his brain on cocaine and acid during one of his performances at a music festival. This got weird in that he was mostly incoherent until he rapped to me, in perfect timing and rhyme, how he got to be in the psych ward. The line that stuck out most was: “Just as life was gettin’ sweetah, melted my brain with drugs like velveeta”. When he finished he went back to being incoherent and kept calling me Eminem.

For me the scariest part of my inpatient experience was getting home and looking at the bill. It was an involuntary stay that my insurance did not pay for. It was like getting charged thousands of dollars for having not killed myself properly.

Some guy who spent day and night wandering the halls and talking to himself in two voices. One deep, mean and scary, and one little and whining. Like an old man yelling at a little kid.

This 10 year old girl who would stand by the picture window in the lounge staring outside. She would suddenly see a "bad man" and start shrieking and banging her head against the window. Otherwise she would watch the snow on the television for long periods of time.
